We attended the seminar by Direct Buy.  We were shown movies depicting the wonderful savings on furniture as compared to retail prices.  It was a 2 hour seminar of nothing but high pressure sales.  We sucumbed when they told us if we left before joining, we would have to pay a lot more for our membership at a later date.

We were told we could shop at their website since we live 100 miles from their location in Lenexa, KS.  Their online offerings were few and the ones that were on their website, were more expensive than Our local stores.
We had to replace a dishwasher right after joining and we bought it at Lowes for less.
We would like to join the class action suit.  Please advise if this is possible.

What did you pay for your membership?

I also had a similar experience with direct buy. My wife wanted to join, so I did. The membership was 5,000.00. They don't tell you that a finance company pays for your membership with a high interest rate. We found out that we can get items at lower prices elsewhere. Right now we're trying to get out of this mess.

We have been members for 5 years with the Johnson County showroom in Olathe, KS and have managed to save money on every item we have purchased through the company.  We were going to buy appliances from Home Depot and saved over $500.00 even with the items being on sale at Home Depot.  I recommend the Direct Buy to anyone who is going to be getting involved with a large remodel or if you intend to buy a substantial amount of furniture.  Naturally you need to check prices and make sure you have price quotes from the retailers to see if the best price is with Direct Buy.  If you are only going to buy a few low priced items, don't join, why would you.  You already know what your membership is going to cost before you sign, so unless you intend to buy more high end items your savings are going to be less because the markup is not there for the retailers and therefore you do not save much.

I have always found the staff at the Direct Buy of Johnson County KS to be very helpful and friendly.  I of course cannot say how other showrooms conduct buisness, as always "BUYER BEWARE" you are paying to be a member just like with any club you must make sure you will come out ahead.

Stan, You are obviously being compensated by Direct Buy either directly or by receiving a different price list than other consumers.
      NOBODY believes your testimonial.

My wife and I joined Direct Buy about 2 years ago. We were told at the time that 1) if we found a lower price somewhere else, they would beat it by 10% and they have and 2) we did not have to pay the annual renewal fees after the two year initial period until we saved as much as we paid for the membership, and we haven't. Although we have not used Direct Buy extensively, and we have not yet recouped our initial membership fees, we believe it was a good investment.
And no, we are not being compensated, do not work for Direct Buy and obviously have the same price list as everyone else.

My husband and I are the members of Direct Buy for 2.5 years and we are very happy with their prices. We decided to purchase membership when we were building our house, and within the first 2 years we were able to save more than what we have paid for our membership. However, I would agree that the purchase of DB membership does not make sense for those who buy limited quantities of inexpensive goods. Also, you have to be ready invest a lot of time for research, as DB website does not list everything for every manufacturer. My approach is to get the list of brands I like from DB web- site, then go directly to the manufacturer's website and select items / collections I am interested in, and then email DB staff member and ask to price these items for me. In my 2.5 years with DB, there were 3-4 occasions when DB prices were higher than competitors’ rates, so I submitted the proof of retail prices to DB and in 2 cases DB’s staff was able to negotiate with manufacturers to get the things I wanted cheaper; in other cases I purchased from the competitors.
Also, I agree with Stan, the staff at the Direct Buy of Johnson County is very helpful, friendly, and professional.
