I purchased WFW 9470WL01 washer last year and have had problems with it ever since.
At first it had error signals, then it stained all of my towels and bath mats (that's at least $500), and now it is literally ripping holes in all of my clothing.
I starting documenting the ruined items (with pictures) 9 months after purchase because I thought I was going crazy.  I kept having repair guys out and they first said it was because the water pressure wasn't high enough, thus the stains and holes being caused by items rubbing together without enough water.  But I am still getting holes in my clothes.  The most insulting part is that the repair guys now suggest I am tearing holes in my own clothing by rubbing against my counter tops or wearing belts.  fyi, I wear an apron every time I cook, and I don't wear belts.
I called Whirlpool and they were unsympathetic and would offer no concessions because the appliance is 1 yr and 5 months old.
As a business owner, I would want to know if they food I served made someone sick or if the service my business provided frustrated them to the level I have reached.  I would also make it right no matter what it cost me.
I have read reviews on the whirlpool duet online and found the overwhelming majority of people are having myriad problems with this machine.
I only bought the new whirlpool because my previous whirlpool duet was so great.
Every representative I talk to swears they aren't hearing complaints about this appliance.  I can't believe that.
I think it should be recalled.  I want it OUT of my house.  It is the devil and can't be trusted with anything important.
What else can I do when I place my brand new $60 shirt inside FOUR linen wash bags, set it on delicate, select "no spin" and it comes out with a hole in it?  I bought this shirt yesterday to replace one of many shirts that have been ruined this summer. I didn't cook in it, I didn't wear a belt with it, I put it in 4 linen bags on delicate, no spin and it is ruined.
What are my options?
Never again Whirlpool.  I will never buy your products again.  And every chance I get I will tell people to stay away from this manufacturer that doesn't stand behind it's products.

At least I am not crazy. Our Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer are about a year and a half old and started chewing up clothes, usually the neckline, bottom hem or sleeve, for the last 8 months or so. The first casualty was a pair of 100.00 cycling shorts- I figured that they had melted in a too-hot dryer. Since then, it has been mostly long and short-sleeve t-shirts-leaving this weird pattern of holes described above within this section of fabric twisted to discoloration. It's very distinct when it happens- but totally random. I have problem-solved, lowering the spin, filling the tub less, drying on Medium, pulling out athletic clothes or putting them in garment bags to wash. I thought I had figured it out, but tonight an irreplaceable concert t-shirt came out with the sleeve mangled and riddled with holes and I decided to look and see if anyone else has had this issue. Wow-I am unfortunately in good company. I hope Whirlpool will take notice- it's very frustrating. I don't mind customizing how I do laundry--if I just knew what the cause is.

Thank God I found this site. I have come home to yet again another ruined pair of slacks. I have never encountered so many ruined clothes from the washing machine nor have I heard of this before. It has bleached them, it has ripped holes in things, and changed one pair of cream pants to pink!  WTH causes this?  Mine is about 18 mos and started behaving this way about 3 to 4 months ago.  I've switched detergents, stopped using any bleaches or softeners, to no avail.  So tonight is bizarre. A dark brown pair of pants that made it through the was were left folded on top of the washer while another load washed without bleach or whitening of any type. When we returned they are BLEACHED with a line that matches the door.

So have there been any successful resolutions, or are we just screwed?

I have a front loader Whirlpool for 2 years now and it has put holes in my clothes and eats the socks which causes the machine to stop draining water. I have to take the panel off and find the socks in front of the filter.  I should of complained a long time ago but I thought it was just me over stuffing, so I tried lighter loads and it still did the same thing.  This problem started out ripping clothes about every two months but now it is every other load. 😔

Thanks for validating that there is a problem with this product right from the start.  As some of the comments I read suggest that many of you had the problem right from the beginning.

I have owned my unit for over  years, and now noticed this is happening.  I thought it was my fault why my clothes were chewed up (i thought i overloaded or wrong setting), so for months I tried loads and it was a 'hit & miss' on whether more of my clothes were damaged.  It has bee a frustrating process.

Finally I inspected the unit, and it turn out there is a tear in the tub seal, which was causing the clothes to go inside and tear at the spin cycle.  I am in the process of trying to get Whirlpool to pay for the repairs and damages of my clothing.  Alternatively, I may have to do the repair myself.  I attached a link below of the part that needs to be replaced.

Please reach out to me and let me know what's happening with your situation.  Collaborating efforts may be worth while in proving that this problem lies with the product and not the user.  And that this warrants special attention, regardless of warranty period.

    Please email me tan.samia@gmail.com.
    Thanks

My washer IS ALSO Ruining my cloths! Hundreds of dollars worth! It's reidicilous! I've also tried to wash on delicate and STILL Holes in my cloths. I buy something new and try not to wash it until i have to, 3-4 wearings as i know it IS going to come out with Holes or Shredded. Sucks, these washers are JUNK and definitely costing me hundreds in wasted money. I would NEVER buy a front loader AND tell other's NOT to buy one. Needs to be replacements on this product!!

I can't recall exactly when I purchased my machines but I know I have the receipt here somewhere. I think it was sometime in 2011. I have the same issue as pretty much everyone else in this thread - it eats holes in my clothes whenever it feels like. Sometimes it's merciful and won't ruin anything for months but as soon as a brand new article of clothing goes in - CHOMP!!! I also have issues keeping the rubber gasket thing around the entrance from molding. I have to regularly scrub it with bleach. Small amounts of water pool in it after washing and if I close the door it's mold city. If I leave the door wide open it will dry out a little more but it's still best to use a towel and wipe out the gasket. It's ridiculous. I would never recommend this machine. It's cost me hundreds of dollars in ruined clothing.
