These people have been calling me for months, but never asking for me by name. Their message always begins: "Portfolio Recovery Associates... Please return this call at 1-800-860-0644..." They go on to say, "This communication will be with a debt collector and is an attempt to collect a debt." Then they give their corporate address -- nothing else.

I searched them online and found that there are many complaints against this company. They buy old debts for next to nothing, and then try to intimidate people into paying. They must be stopped.

I would like to join a class action against them. Please advise.

Thank you,
John Pansini

Portfolio Recovery calls my house all the time, at least twice a day and it is always from different numbers, never the same phone # twice.  I have been blocking the numbers as they call, and they just call from a different phone #.  They call early in the morning and also at night.  They never leave any messages, just call and hang up.  Usually I see that it is them calling and ignore the calls.  On the few occasions that I have answered their call, they still don't say anything and hang up.  I will be filing a written complaint to the Virginia Office of Consumer Affairs and with the Attorney General's office.  I am a heart patient and do not need this aggravation because I don't owe anything.

A statement from Portfolio Recovery Associates say’s ” PRA simply applies innovation to reap rewards from others’ financial troubles.” I’m wondering if by “innovation” they actually meant “harassment and threating phone calls”…. http://www.castlelaw.net/blog/are-you-receivi ... associates-.cfm

These people filed in court on me and I am in the middle of bankruptcy, so they are in trouble. My lawyer is going after them to pay for all court costs and the fact he said the statue of limits has run out so they get nothing, especially since it is one of my creditors in my bankruptcy! I can't wait until they get the paper work turning the tables on them!

Received letter that I owed several thousand $$$.  No explanation what this is owed for and said needed to be paid immediately.  Have received several calls before this letter.  I owe nobody.  Been divorced/seperated several years.  Feel like it's ex's bill.

Dispute as per FDCPA... replies to fgk
They have a history of complaints of attempting to collection from the wrong people, along with complaints of attempting to slip through default judgements through various tactics.

Send a written FDCPA dispute, demanding proof you owe it.  Mail it certifed.
If they pull anything, get an attorney.
You may be able to sue them for FDCPA violations.
You can find a consumer attorney through www.naca.net

I get these robo calls from the Portfolio Recovery at least twice a day. I've disconnected the house answering machine due to the many calls from them. I do not owe any past debts and when I called, the company told me that the number I have (never asked my name) has a debt connected. I have proof from my phone company that I only received the number less than a year ago. They "claim" that I owe money for the number going back 5 years. They still call... is there anything I can do to get them to stop? It's bad enough I get spammed by robo calls asking for a myriad of things to buy or "win," without this added on the top.

This is a crock of _hit with them.  Call at all hours of the day or night.  Leave no message just call and call.  They must have purchase a large block of numbers.  I have blocked them from calling   They just call from another number.  Sometimes caller Id shows portfolia recovery and sometimes there is no caller ID.  These people are horrid.
