Warrant Claim

Complaint Rating:
I am writing to explain an ongoing problem that I have had in trying to obtain a replacement pump Model 635 from an Intex 24 X 12 pool set that I purchased June 3rd, 2007 at a Canadian Tire store in Canada.

The pump only lasted approximately 2 weeks before it ceased to function any longer and I immediately contacted the INTEX service department in California for a warranty replacement, detailing the circumstances in a letter and faxing the information as requested. I called after I had faxed the letter (and original proof of purchase receipt) to confirm that the fax had been received. I was told that it had been received and the warranty claim approved and that I should be receiving my new pump within 2 weeks.

On July 31, 2007, having not received the pump I contacted the consumer department again to be advised that they had no record of my original claim and that I should send the information again. I promptly did so and followed up with another phone call to confirm that they received the fax. Upon confirmation I was told that the fax was received and approved and that I should anticipate my replacement pump in about 2 weeks. I advised that I would follow up with another phone call to obtain a confirmation number which I did on August 01, 2007.

I contacted the company again in mid August to be advised that the pumps were “back-ordered” and it would be approximately 2 week before I received my replacement.

Today, September 5, 2007, I contacted the company again to determine the status of the pump. In mid August I was directed to the website to confirm that the company was out of stock on the model 635 pump but noticed that it no longer indicates that as of this date. I was advised initially today that no record exists of my warranty claim but when I gave the woman my confirmation number she then put me on hold and advised upon returning that it would be another 3-4 weeks for my pump to arrive because they are “back-ordered.” I pointed out that I was advised of this before and directed to note the “out of stock” claim on the website but now the website makes no such claim. She then told me that “Canadian’s are different.” I politely told her that I will have been waiting almost 3 months based on her estimate for a replacement pump and that I needed to contact someone else in the company to lodge a formal complaint. She told me that the supervisors were on discrete extensions and that there was no one to contact. When I questioned this and asked for her name, she promptly hung up on me.

I have been patient, I have been polite, I have been willing to be stroked along with all of the mishandling of this very simple claim, but frankly…that is the final straw.

I work in aviation as a supervisor of 10 and if I allowed any of my staff to behave this way towards any of our stakeholders or to not honour the company intent for customer satisfaction I would lose my job. I have NEVER been party to such carelessness or disdain in customer service relations before in my life. I purchased the swimming pool in good faith and was only able to use it for a very short time, even planning my family’s vacation around it.

My intent is to contact the major Canadian retailers of INTEX products and advise them that their customers should beware of false warranty information and lack of commitment by INTEX to expedite simple claims. It would appear that this company DOES NOT stand behind it's warranties. Perhaps the major retailers might reconsider stocking INTEX products. INTEX is a HONg KONG based company and it would seem another in the long line of Chinese companies with production, warranty and service issues.

I purchased a easy set Intex pool last fall at Walmart. It was not opened at all till yesterday(June 7, 2009). I started filling it up with water, when it was about 1/4th of the way filled I noticed a leak in the seam. I called Intex and talk to a customer service rep. who told me the warranty was only good 90 days from purchase date. I had it stored in a dry storage building and it was perfect so I know nothing happened over the winter. Now I have a pool that is not worth carrying home. Thats a lot of money I could have spent elsewhere not counting my daughter is very dissappointed. It is a 18ft x 48" so you know it was not cheap.

I had the same problem in that I purchased a pool in the fall and did not set it up until the spring.  It had a leak.  It is the 24' pool so it is not at all feasible to fill the thing with water going into winter as that it too much wasted water.  Anyway, we tried to fix the 1 leak and then many more sprang up within the first week of using the pool.  It is unusable now and they won't even call us back!!!  They say a supervisor will call within 12 to 24 hours and they never do.  We have attempted to talk to a supervisor 4 times and all 4 times they have never returned the calls.  It is absolutely frustrating.  Any advice on what we should do?

It appears that this is the way Intex does business. I purchased their 12x24 (6/19/09) set and the pump seized after two weeks. I'm now STILL in the process of dealing with their "customer service" I have faxed in their warranty claim form and purchase receipt 4 times and each time they come up with a different BS excuse. One of these persons told me I faxed it to the wrong number after I had read the number off their form. Then it was they couldn't read the date of purchase receipt and to actually underline it before I fax it again.

I've owned this "pool" for three months and enjoyed it for two weeks without hassle. I've since purchased a different pump while fighting for the warranty replacement pump as I was fed up dealing with Intex. Whether or not I finally get to the bottom of this "warranty" issue with the pump. I've started contacting the Better Business Bureaus and local TV and Radio stations to put as much negative publicity out in the Sacramento area as possible. Intex will continue to treat their customers this way until something affects their customer base.

Word to the wise, save yourself the hassle of purchasing a product with Intex as they will not support their products. What they will do is provide the most ridiculous "customer service" I've ever dealt with.

Go spend $3.00 and play in the sprinklers!

I guess I'm the "odd man out"  .  I purchased one of the big pools four years ago. After three seasons (we run the pump continuously once the weather gets warm enough), the pump siezed up.  I did the warranty thing.  They sent me a replacement pump within three weeks, but it was the smaller one.  It worked for one week, siezed up.  I did the same complaint thing, they sent me another small replacement pump.  Last sumer we purchased a complete new setup, pool and all.  It came with the smaller pump.  We ran it about two weeks, it siezed up.  I'm working on turning in another warranty complaint.  I HAVE noticed other companis seeling the INTEX pumps, and even have the large 635 unit in stock for 139 bucks.  I may go that route.  I have no tolerance for shoddy workmanship or rude and crude company representatives.  They don't EVEN want to play that game with me.  I'll always win................

I bought one a month ago and we have had nothing but problems with the liner springing leaks even when no one has been able to swim in it. The pump just plain sucks because it is too small for the size pool we have, and the cover that came with the pool tore the second time we went to put it on. Would have been cheaper and had a lot less problems if we had just filled up a garbage bag and swam in that.

This problem is not just happening in CA with Intex products. I live in KY and have had the same problems with their products and my sister lives in MI and bought the same pool I did and had the same exact problems. I guess the fact that Intex will only warranty their products for 90 days should have been the first clue. Any product costing as much as these pools do and are quality products should have a least the minimum of a 1 year warranty.

I'm glad to see that you have had better luck with your product from Intex than the other thousands of customers who haven't been so lucky.
