I received a call from a guy today about a debt that I owed in the past. I was game so I played. I asked him for a copy of the initial contract since his company allegedly bought the debt. By law they have five days to provide me with the paperwork. He tells me he cannot because they bought the debt. So I countered by asking how they could do that without any paperwork. He said they do have paperwork but not the contract. So I said sending me a copy of the paperwork on their end would do just fine. He said he couldn't do that. So I asked how can they prove I owe what I owed (which I don't) when they can't even provide proof. When he said they couldn't I hung up on him. On top of this whole thing, his number rang as an Idaho number (I live in Idaho) but their company is based out of New York. They're getting sneakier and sneakier!

I got a call from nam group in Kenmore New York. They said I owed them money. I too asked for my contract and they sent me a bogus one saying I'm going to have a judgement against me. He said he was a lawyer and his name is mr Davis. Funny thing is when I call he answers the phone and I ask for him puts me on hold and then answers with a slightly different voice. I am sick of those scammers who annoy us. My father called and asked me to take care of this for my sister. Before I made the call, I had this suspicion it was probably other scammer. I called at this phone number...716-256-1654. Tony Marquette was the one who contacted my father. He said he represents Northwood Asset Management or NAM Group. I asked several questions and he refused to give out the information because I am the third party. When I hung up, I went online to search for that company. I could not find. I called him back again but he was out for break time. Mark was replaced and I asked for the web site. He said he never look at online which is my first alarm. He gave me the web link... northwoodassetmanagementgroup then hung up quickly without complete the link. I suddenly know it is a scam. I hate, hate scammers. Why don't the congress do something about scammers. Why don't they be caught and put in jail? I am sure CIA or FBI has a better technology to track and catch them. It is not the first time but several times. I am annoyed of them!! Please be smart and challenge them with asking questions when they call you. If you have elderly family members, ask them to let u take care of it. Elderly people are the target people because they are easy to have feebled mind. Questions to consider to ask: 1) What is the address? if the address is given, go to online and look at the map...you will find the address is usually found at the residence place. If not the residence, then get close to study the map. U may find the different name of business or company. Then it is a scam. 2) Ask for the web site...if you don't get it or incorrect link then it is a scam 3) Pay attention to every answer such as if they said I have sent letters for a year and she did not respond me back. It is a scam. Most business and banks usually send the warning letter once time to give the period time to pay back. 4) If you call and he or she answers the phone quickly, then it can be a scam. 5) Check with your family member who owes the debt if he or she get the letters. If he or she said no then it is scam. 6) Scammers usually said u have the debt of $1,300. Then ask for the name of company you owe. Also the address. If you dont familiar with the company then it is scam. 7) Ask for the license number and he talks off the point and wont give the number then it is scam. 8) If you keep on asking questions and he can't answer and hang up quickly then it is a scam. Hope this is helpful for your future whenever u get the similar call.

I just had same so called company call me and first this guy answered really quickly without stating the business he was calling from just with a hello, then I asked for Brad miller which is the guy who called me and the guy said oh did u talk to him today and I'm like no.. then the guy who called got on the phone and did not say hello until I said something and his voice was very shaky sounding. He said I owe a debt. So I asked him to send me an original documentation from the company I owe and he says they don't have that but he can send me something on their end... hmm I don't know if I can trust them at all. Sounds like a scam to me as well.  He sounded scared and he did not know how to answer any question I asked...

stay at home mommy n wife
Hey all ik its sounds fishy but a few years ago this company was built with just a few people the company did purchase debt from another debt collection company so it is their new business and they cannot provide the contacts from the original because they don't have it because when it goes into collections the original creditor that have the debtor the loan that is where the contract is not with the collection company...they are a legit company and as for any kind of high stress job newbies that are not familiar with debt collecting are scared it's a very intimidating job there are plenty of legalality that they have to follow  they are doing everything by the books the harassment sucks yeah they call your friend family's and employees however if you're working then just pay off the debt or continuously get phone calls bottom line

NEVER NEVER NEVER work with a debt collector! If you truly do owe a valid debt within the past 7 years, ONLY work with the original creditor to repay. And that is ONLY if they will allow you to repay. Federal law requires them to write-off bad debt after 180 days (6 months). Any scumbag that threatens you via a phone call, is not a "business" you should engage in. Don't call them. Don't write them. Don't give them any information. If a friend or family member tells you a debt collector contacted them, tell them to block the number and forget about it.

I have been receiving calls for weeks for someone who has never been connected with my phone number, a phone number I got on my own, in my own name, over a decade ago. I finally answered and was connected to Mrs. Hall. I explained that I was not the person they were trying to reach, and to please remove me from their call list as I was not the person they were looking for. I was then told that, "But this is showing me that this IS the correct and active number for (person they were looking for)." I explained again that this wasn't that person's number, had never been their number, had never been connected to that person in any way, and to stop calling. Then Mrs. Hall got incredibly defensive. Because of this, I demanded her first and last name, the name of the business, their address, and their phone number. She was resistant, but after some pressing, she gave me an address that doesn't exist. After telling her that the address didn't exist, she became very flustered and continued to insist that I was the person they were looking for, and I said, "I am not that person!!!!" And she said, "Well what is your name, then?! And I gave my full name--first, middle, and last, because I was annoyed and irritated. We hung up shortly thereafter. Then today, a few days after this phone call, I received another call directly from Mrs. Hall (routing through the same area code that my phone number has though they told me they are in Buffalo NY). I called back and demanded a manager. I was given the runaround for several minutes before I finally got a manager and explained the phone call and what happened, and how this was not the number for the person they were trying to reach and to please stop calling me before I contact my lawyer to initiate a harassment suit against them. The manager took my number off of their list for the person they were looking for, and was very apologetic about the call. I was given the address 3901 Genesee St, Buffalo NY, which does appear to be their address upon a basic google search. Hopefully this is the end of it, but I would be wary of a company whose employees argue with you when you tell them they have the wrong number for the person they are attempting to reach.
