I received a call from a guy today about a debt that I owed in the past. I was game so I played. I asked him for a copy of the initial contract since his company allegedly bought the debt. By law they have five days to provide me with the paperwork. He tells me he cannot because they bought the debt. So I countered by asking how they could do that without any paperwork. He said they do have paperwork but not the contract. So I said sending me a copy of the paperwork on their end would do just fine. He said he couldn't do that. So I asked how can they prove I owe what I owed (which I don't) when they can't even provide proof. When he said they couldn't I hung up on him. On top of this whole thing, his number rang as an Idaho number (I live in Idaho) but their company is based out of New York. They're getting sneakier and sneakier!

    Just tell them u filed bankruptcy. And b4 u know it they hang up & never call back.. lmfao or say ur names Anon or John and let those brown nose beaches pay your cost to be the BOSS!

    So this person, Ashley Singletary, gave this number as a contact number for her after she contacted my dad who lives in a different city than me. She previously called my cell phone and where I work looking for me and telling them it was a legal matter and she needed a statement from me or my lawyer regarding a legal debt. So I call back, and reach an answering machine. She requires you to leave your name, phone number, and case number. I didnt now my case number so I left my name and cell. She called back shortly after. Says it's in regards to a debt from a certain agency. Now, I DO owe this agency but just follow me here. I after her paragraph long speech which i could barely follow since she was speaking so fast, i said I would be happy to comply (which I am) as long as they could send me the necessary paperwork in the mail. She said that was fine but if she did that then the debt would immediately be put in a critical status and legal action would follow. I told her I would prefer not to go the court system route but I wasn't going to pay just anybody over the phone and still wanted some physical copies. She said she would send them out and also send me a copy in my email. She also stated that the lender has attempted to contacted me prior to this via email and snail mail. I told her I never received any of it (I hadnt). She sent it while I was on the phone and then asked me to check my email. I got the document, it was simply a letter stating that Northwood Management Group was collecting on behalf of this specific lender. She proceeds to tell me it's funny that the lender attempts to contact their defaulted clients all the time via email and mail and they "never get it" but as soon as Northwood Management Group contacts them they suddenly get the emails, but she "isn't here to dispute that." Anyway, this email looks like anyone could've made it, and didnt include any legal documents, so I ask her, "can i just contact your client myself and pay them?" She said yes I could, and if I would've listened to her earlier (that paragraph she read off at a mile a minute) she would provide me with the number...rude. Ok, so I get the number. I hang up and google the number she gave me. It's not associated with my lender at all and is actually associated with the SAME ORGANIZATION SHE IS. I also rechecked my email and never received any contact from the lender I'm default with. I know everyone says "just pay your debts" but I am willing to work with a legitimate company.....I just dont think this one is.

    Emails mean NOTHING official.  Demand WRITTEN proof of the "debt" that is MAILED to you - nothing else (because that would be mail fraud!!).  You will not get anything.
