Child Care Promises are Fake

LifeTime Fitness showed me their wonderful child care facility, and I thought that my child will be having wonderful time while I am working out. The first time we came with my 5year-old after signing the contract, I left her in the child care room. after the class I picked her up but she had tears in her eyes. I discovered that the climber and the computer room was closed, and she wanted to use those. Next day - same situation. Now, she refuses to go with me to the fitness center, because they limit what she can do.

I went to speak with the manager, and she told me that they keep the facilities closed when the number of children is less than 25. No one told me about this when we signed the contract.

I canceled my membership shortly, and don't advice any one to join this fitness.

I love lifetime fitness and my girls (11 and 10) don't mind going to the childcare.  However at the beginning a lot of the areas were closed and they were limited on what they good do.  It seems to be better lately.

I've read other complaints about some Lifetime's closing parts of the childcare down.  All I have to say is that it's not that way at all at the Lifetime Fitness I go to.  All the stuff is in one big area so it would be hard to close any one thing down the way it's set up.  My daughter (age 6, almost 7) loves going!

I "advice" you to be more observant when you purchase things.  Didn't you notice that the facility areas were closed?  Why didn't you ask any questions about it?  Just because your 5-year-old throws a tantrum when she can't use a computer does not mean that an entire company should be rerouted so that your kid can be mollified.  Now the kid refuses to go?! She's five!  She's not supposed to run anyone's life - not even her own!

It amazes me how many complaints on here could be stopped with minor common sense.

I agree with you fully. People should be more observant and parents shouldn't bow down to their kids and allow them to throw tantrums over computers and play gyms. Get over it!

I agree with you if there is less than 10 children in the day care there wouldn't be more than two teachers. So if only one child wants to go to computers they're not going to make the other nine kids go and work on computers. The majority rules. Yesterday my son wanted to play basketball in the daycare but the other children wanted to watch a movie it was only five children in there so they weren't going to all make them play basketball.

I think failure to identify all about facility is breach of contract

I'm sorry but what decent parent would say this? A decent parent doesn't feel good about themselves to go enjoy a work out or whatever club activity knowing their child is miserable.  The facilities were probably open when she toured so who would have thought they closed down certain areas? Hmmm... seems a bit presumptuous on your end to assume there wasn't common sense used in the situation. Better idea, how about the club provide the full services offered in the child care area being they are there to serve the clients.

Children need to be able to adapt. They don't always get what they want. Being miserable because you can't play the computer is not a reason to throw a tantrum especially at 5. The child was not being bullied or picked on or tortured. I guess it must be a hard life to have to play with toys, listen to music, interact with other children. Not a reason to post a complaint. It made me laugh when I read it. Can't deal with it.
And we wonder why kids act entitled. So ridiculous.

It's pretty obvious Kenneth that you don't have children.  Let's just say that you joined the club because of the basketball court. All of a sudden, the basketball court was replaced with new work out equipment.  Do you complain?  Do you choose to join the new Yoga classes?  Or you adjust to the changes happening around you and just start using the new equipment?  My guess is that you have a 5 year old tantrum and then complain! I'm sure your next move would be cancelling your membership...DO YOU GET IT NOW?

I agree with Darlene! Kenneth I am sure you dont have any children. I am sure what when Mary was looking for a gym one of the first things improtant to her was the child care facility. She wanted to be sure that her child was happy and safe while she worked out. She didnt want to have to worry about her child and I am also sure as she said in her email that Lifetime fitness showed her the child care facility that the oomputers and climber were open. Mary, you are a good mother and did what any good mother would do. Sheam on lifetime fitness for making you think you were getting something for you child that you were not and I would have quit too. To many other gyms out there that would not lie to you.

Lifetime fitness is a joke guys, they tell you what you want to hear and dont follow through with what they say they will do. When I was a memeber it was great when it was new, but after 4-5 years the place was always a mess, equipment was broke, etc... The fees you pay for this place are outrageous compared to other gyms, well, at least in my area (Chicago, Illinois)

For all of you with kids, the money you put down for lifetime a month, you could get yourself some pretty good home equipment and make payments on it for pretty close to the same amount.

I worked in the child care center in Berkley Heights. Very dirty and very unsafe. There were 96 kids to one or two staff members. I was miserable. The kids were unhappy, they would not let us take them out to play in the fenced in area. All the higher up wanted was to parade possible members around and tell them things that were not true. The overall club is brand new and still kept very dirty. I had several complaints from members. The showers are filthy, you could skate on the slippery floor. Not worth the money.

I worked in the child care facility at my Lifetime Fitness in Shelby, Michgan, for a short time in 2005 when I was pregnant with my second daughter. It was immaculately sterile, in fact the cleaning schedule we maintained was a bit too much, in my opinion. It was, as a result, the cleanest it could possibly be so anyone in question as to it's cleanliness, put your mind at ease. IT'S CLEAN!
The cleaning supplies used by Lifetime is 3M, the entire line of it, no expenses spared! All child center employees had to memorize a mission statement also.
Yes, we did close down certain areas if there was a lack of staff or if there weren't a lot of kids in the center. I can see if some parents would be upset, but come on, how many things can your spoiled kids possibly want to do at once? I agree with Ken on this one, why are you letting your child dictate where you will take him/her? PALEEZ!
And Eric, there is NO Lifetime Fitness that is dirty or unsafe! You sound like a disgruntled ex employee to me and definitely not a parent. Lifetime remodels their entire facilities 1-2 per year. This includes changing out all of the marble in the locker rooms. If you want cheap, every other fitness club out there is sub standard compared to Lifetime.

depending on what club you are at, they have a policy sheet that says they reserve the right to close any area.  try going at a different time of the day.

i know during the daytime hours certain areas are closed, due to the lack of chilren which means they have less staff

The comments about LT's childcare are correct.  What some like Kenneth don't understand is that for many of us the ONLY reason we chose LT over LOTS of other options was specifically the childcare.  As a parent I want to enjoy my workout without making my kid sit in "storage" the whole time I'm there.  I hope for my kid to like going to the gym.  This is what LT offers, but then doesn't consistently deliver.  Many times I picked up my kid from
Childcare only to hear that the climbing gym was not opened, and the outside play area was not opened, and the basketball court was not open. Instead of playing and sweating and exercising too, he sat for over an hour playing video games in rhe computer area.  When I complained finally I got the same answer being reported here: they don't open more play areas until they have more staff and they don't bring on more staff until they have certain minimum numbers of kids.

So if you go during "gym rush hour" everything is open.  But
If you go at say 10:00 am, it will be just one or two areas.

I tried to put up with it for a long time, but finally canceled my membership too because I just couldn't keep doing that to my kid.  It was selfish.

One final word, in LT's defense:  Although it's frustrating at LT because they give the impression they somehow "get it" when
It cones to our child care needs,  ALL the gyms do it like this.
