I signed my child up to attend Marshall Academy in Holly Springs MS, last May. Yes, I signed a tuition contract.  In June she injured her knee, and was going to miss the first couple months of school.  At that point, we decided to homeschool this year because of her injury. I told MA.  I heard nothing until more than 2 months into the school year, when they wrote me I owed them the tuition.  SO 1) it was too late for me to send ally anyway, they made sure of that 2) couple years previous another daughter had been signed up but didnt go and I wasnt sued for tuition and 2) yes, legally right to use... but Morally?
The Christian school goes after the single parent when they had no moral right to that money!  So I followed a lawyers advice and let her respond. Next thing I knew, I was served and eventually forced to come up with the money or I would be sued.  Now this is a small town and these people are supposed to be my neighbors !  They exerted no effort at all for my daughter - she was not in the budget, she was never tested or assigned any classes.
Wow, guess just because the door says Christian school, doesnt mean that is what goes on inside!

    Marshall Grandparent
Being from the area for years, I have seen the ups and downs of the school. The enrollment  of the school declined with the economy, but quite possibly  seems to be leveling  off. The school  is not perfect and no institution should claim  to be. I believe  right now they have the faculty  in place  to make a comeback  in academic  prowess. The elementary seems to be efficient and the high school appears to have some renewed  energy. My grandchild (high school) talks about current  events and news with me!  We had coffee and talked like two grown women and she even had her own opinions and knew why she felt that way. I asked What had gotten  into her and she said it was an everyday  thing at school. Now that in itself seems progressive  to me and not lacking as was mentioned  earlier.  My grandchild  also participated  in ACT prep class that was offered by a veteran and knowledgeable teacher at the school. As far as the segregation  statements I attended the awards presentation  and a great many of the awards went to both African American and Chinese students.  One of the teachers remarked  that the school offered the kids ""a whole experience " helping to mold them into complete and successful  young people, and I think I believe that young man.  I know the school  constantly  faces  issues especially  financially  due to its current size, but from talking to parents and even that new teacher that I mentioned  earlier...who said that he was going to work with the Administration  on a laptop pilot program which is once again pretty progressive. ...that the school could be in the position to grow.  Having many children, grandchildren,  and friends with ties to the school. ...I certainly  hope so

    Former MA Parent
This school is not what I wanted for my children and therefore I moved out of the town. Oxford, MS schools and social experiences are exceptional!  I felt like my kids were in a private school in this school district.  You don't get what you pay for at MA at all and the percent of kids who succeed in secondary education is low.   Many get arrested for drugs or alcohol in college and end of working for daddy's business which is a dead end for them as far as a career is concerned.  The board is the main problem.  They were not supportive of teachers receiving decent salaries and allowed students to attend that had been expelled from other schools which caused discipline problems.  My advice is move away and come to Lafayette County where we have 2 fabulous public schools and 2 excellent private schools.

    Can't Fix Stupid
I get really annoyed with people like Former MA Parent. Yes, from an academic standpoint the Oxford public schools are better than Marshall. But a house that costs $100,000 in Holly Springs might cost $500,000 in Oxford. Maybe some people can't afford a $500,000 house. Or maybe some people would like to live in the same community that their family and friends have lived in for the past 150 years. As for drugs and alcohol, has this person looked around at what is happening with the Oxford students? Drug and alcohol use is rampant. Suicide attempts are common. Don't try to peddle a line of bull that everything is perfect in Oxford, because it isn't.

This school is joke. They do not care about students other than the athletes. They are behind in technology, they use old books. The teachers are not trained and they do pick on certain students.
