They said the name of the company was Yellow Pages Public and kept calling, saying we'll be charged 599.99 if don't get this cancellation number and in order to get this I have to say 'yes' to receiving this invoice. They also said they had a contract signed by us from the year 2009 for a free year, which was 2110, and the 599.99 is for 2011 and would be charged without this cancellation process going through. The phone number call came from was 347-418-0489. The call kept getting disconnected, and they'd call back, continuing to tell me I HAD to have confirmation/cancellation # or would be charged. Haven't heard back from the last disconnect.

They are a fraudulent "business directory" shakedown racket.
They fake the appearance of "authorizations", including by doctoring phone recordings.

File fraud complaints with FTC and your state Attorney General, and at www.ic3.gov

If some NJ collection agency shows up, file fraud complaints against them as well.

    Ignore their threats.
They are a bunch of liars.

I just received this phone call too.  Said they received a call from an employee to cancel and that they were calling back to give a conformation number for said cancellation.  After waiting on hold for some time a quality control guy gets on the phone claiming that I need to accept this invoice.  If I didn't accept it then I would be sent to collections for $519, $599, not sure what the exact number was.  He then said he was transferring me back but hang up on me.

    What a bogus business ploy!

I had a company that I closed 5 years ago.   They claim to have a recording of the gal from my new company authorizing an ad for the old company.  She didn't even know the name of the old company but sure enough there was a recording of her saying yes to a question.  Everytime there was a question, it was the same (sounding) yes.  I had heard her talk to them in the past saying NO NO NO.  I don't do any yellow pages advertisements period and I never will.   We get all our business thru word of mouth as we are remodelers.

I told them the company doesn't exist and they said they didn't care, we authorized we pay.   I told them to file suit on a company that doesn't exist.  The only reason we changed our name is because we stopped doing insurance work and that was part of our name in the old business.

How is it that our Government that is suppose to "protect us", keeps us from carrying shampoo on a plane but can't stop a know fraudulent business with many complains whether it is a national or international scam?

Oh yes, I forgot,  We are suppose to FEEL safe - not actually BE safe.

Same story, same con.  They have just called me 3 times and 3 times I told them I was not going to pay for any invoice from them.  They were very persistent and asked "Why are you being so difficult?"  After the last time I called them back 3 times 682-300-2403 but simply got a busy signal each time.  I went to the complaint site listed above, but it was simply for internet fraud.  I just now dialed the number 1 more time and got the message that the number was invalid.

Don't let it spoil your day...

It is internet fraud.  They are using a website as a prop in the shakedown racket.

Keep sending fraud and extortion complaints to FTC.

Having the same problem with this company. They get you to do a recording to get a "cancellation" contract number and then they start billing you for something that you never agreed to purchase in the first place. I am filing a complaint today also with the Better Business Bureau!

We just received the same invoice, stating the same thing.  I guess they have sent a batch of these out in hopes to make some quick cash.

Why don't you forward a copy of that "invoice" to the New York Attorney General.

Maybe they can scare the sh*t out of whatever mail service is forwarding their mail to wherever they really are.

In fact, it looks like they are using Regus, which sells "virtual office" services in various locations around the country, apparently providing receptionist/answering service (and presumably mail forwarding) to clients.

Flexible term options get an office for a day, a month, or longer
            Meeting rooms and videoconferencing studios
State-of-the-art printing, scanning, and more available on demand right from your desktop
Access to over 1100 Regus office locations globally

Why don't you file fraud complaints against them with FTC, the NY AG, and the Postal Inspector,  for "aiding and abetting" a fraudulent extortion racket.

The collection guy said they sent me many invoices and we had 30 days to cancelled. However, I never received anything until the bill went 6 months past due, nor did I receive any email. Said our secretary authorized it, and has a recording, however, she has never been authorized. He said there is a law that if the person states they are authorized over the phone, even if they are not, then that is a binding contract. Said the past due will go against the company for 7 years and we will owe a lot more than the original invoices.

They are just a bunch of liars and con artists.

File fraud complaints with FTC, and ignore their threats.
      They don't carry them out.

It's safer to just keep calling and threatening new people than to go anywhere near a courtroom.
