They said the name of the company was Yellow Pages Public and kept calling, saying we'll be charged 599.99 if don't get this cancellation number and in order to get this I have to say 'yes' to receiving this invoice. They also said they had a contract signed by us from the year 2009 for a free year, which was 2110, and the 599.99 is for 2011 and would be charged without this cancellation process going through. The phone number call came from was 347-418-0489. The call kept getting disconnected, and they'd call back, continuing to tell me I HAD to have confirmation/cancellation # or would be charged. Haven't heard back from the last disconnect.

    Same thing here;
They wanted the $599 and I told them to get lost.
They call me about once every six months with the same.
They can't collect because they have no contracts; otherwise you'd be able to send anyone a bill for anything:
The neighbor's kid could bill you $1000 for cutting your non existent lawn

One of my staff got a harassing phone call from "Patrick Walters" a collection agent with Yellow Pages Public who played him back a doctored recording of his agreement to accept the charges. When Mr. Walters called me back he had a thick middle eastern accent (which I thought unusual for a name like Patrick Walters) and tried to guilt me into paying the 599.99 charge plus late fees. Told him I had already contacted the FTC and our Attorney General which he scoffed at. Cmon FTC and attorney generals- this company is laughing at you'lls ability to control them.

Just received the same call. My employee was told by the caller that she was authorized to do the cancellation. She said she was not authorized but he kept at it until she cancelled. The bill is $599.99 or less if payed with a credit card. The number he called from was 682-300-2403. They seam to be changing the number but don't answer this number if you have caller id.

The fax number of where the invoice came from was 702-361-1158- a Nevada number. I think Ill call Patrick back and tell him they owe me money for my wasted time.

Exact same story...say yes to every question, right or wrong and we will make this go away...Then they used that recording to say we authorized the advertisment..  FYI 701 complaints with the BBB in one year!  Now there is at least 702...as I submitted a complaint.

PAY THE INVOICE OR YOU WILL REGRET IT LIKE ME.
Thanks to all these posts, I took the advice of many people on here and it back-fired.
My company refused to pay the invoice that I authorized. The account was sold to a collection agency. The new total was TRIPLED!!!! I refused to pay. My credit score in December 2011 was 782. It now registers at 362!!! My husband is furious with me as we were getting ready to buy our first home. I got papers from the collection agency for small claims court. I called them because I don’t want to go to court. They offered to settle before court for 1257.62 immediately. I took it! I should have just paid the $600. After all, I did authorize it and they did advertise the business on the internet.

They will keep harassing you as long as it looks like you might pay them off.

If you do pay them off, you can expect them to come around again in a few months, under this or some other name, and try their shakedown game again.

Just tell them to "f*** off".
      It's all they understand.

I am going thru the same thing. I dealt with a man named Chris Brian, he said his employee ID number was 5326 and he needed me to agree to this invoice for $599.00 and then he could cancel it for me. I hung up on him 4 times but he kept calling back insisting this must be done.
Well here I am 5 months later with an invoice for $599.00 plus interest for a total of $627.39. I called and was told they had a recording of me authorizing it. I told them to shove it and was told collections would be in touch.
Sure enough, collections called, from 720-708-1000. I told him to shove it too. He said it would go to the next level. I'm going to the FTC.

      There is no "next level".
They are a bunch of liars and fakes.

you are correct. there is no one else you can talk to. I ask for a supervisor and he said he is the only one in charge of my file. I call back and ask for the operators supervisor and she tells me she needs my bill number, so she puts me through to the same jerk I just had it out with over the phone. Then called back and was put on hold and she took my name off of caller id and gave me the same jerk who was in charge of my file.

There is really no point in talking to a "supervisor".

They are all crooks, and this is not e legitimate business selling  a product.
It's just a scam pretending they sell "directory listings", and trying to con small businesses.
It doesn't really matter how you respond to their calls, they will use lies, threats, and doctored recordings to try and extort money from you.

As long as you act like you are disputing a billing problem, they will think they can con you and continue to harass you.

Treat them like the crooks they are, and tell them to "F**** Off".
          That's the language they understand.

          File fraud complaints with FTC.
If you receive a fraudulent invoice through the US Mail, file a mail fraud complaint with the US Postal Inspector.

Otherwise, laugh at them, or just hang up and ignore them.

The 720 number is fake, too. If you look that full number up, you'll see it's a 'shield' of some sort (I don't know the correct name) to throw off caller ID. A LOT of telemarketers use it. It isn't a valid callback number.
