What I've found, Ascena corp owns charming shoppes which was affiliated with Fashion Bug. If you have a Fashion Bug credit card, then this is probably why they are pulling your credit report. I don't like it either but this may help explain.

Just discovered that FIGIS/Charming Shoppes pulled an unauthorized credit report on me on 10/15/2012.  It showed up on an Experian Credit Check sponsored by Wells Fargo Bank.  I had NEVER even heard of this company, nor have I dealt with Fashion Bug.  Doing a search on the internet I find that this has happened to a whole lot of people and there appears to be a significant scam going on here.

    Hello,

If you have not placed an order with us (figis.com) we believe that you are observing a credit bureau “promotional inquiry” on your credit report.  You have received this inquiry because you satisfied the criteria for credit worthiness to receive a pre-approved credit offer from Figi’s.

On the credit report that you received directly from the credit bureau, information about the companies that inquired for the purposes of extending a pre-approved credit offer to you is included for your information.  These inquiries are not revealed to creditors reviewing your credit file.

Promotional inquiries do not impact your ability to obtain credit and are not considered in the credit bureau scoring process.

Here is an Experian sample credit report link that may be to assist you in understanding your credit report:  http://www.experian.com/assistance/sample-credit-report.html

Please contact us at  credit@figis.com if you have any more questions and we would be glad to help.

    Sincerely,

    Figi’s Credit Operations Department

I think you should stop pulling credit inquires on anyone unless they request one, I certainly did not and did not enjoy seeing that you had made an inquiry.  This is not a very good practice and I among many others do not appreciate it.  As a result I will certainly not do any busisness with you such as many others will not......

I, too, am sorry to see an inquiry on my credit report from FIGIS/CHARM SHOPPES.

No one else is doing this, so there is no reason for FIGIS to do it.  SO STOP

How dare you presume that I have ever been interested in receiving a credit card from Fashion Bug!  Just because i made a purchase at one of your stores does not give you the right to invade my privacy.

I am passing this along to the attorney general for investigation!

I agree, you have no business inquiring into my credit if I have not asked for your credit card. Rotten business practice, you'll never get mine! :>(

I agree.  You should stop pulling credit inquiries on anyone unless they request one. I did not and did not appreciate seeing that you had made an inquiry.  You will be hurting your future business prospect.  Would CEO of Figi's like to see his or her credit inquiries pulled by someone unless requested?  USe common sense.

I just pulled my credit report as well and like many of you guys that do not appreciate this company scheming thru my personal business.  I have not applied for nor do I care to get one of your cards.  If I didnt request it there should be something that can be done about companies such as yours that scheme thru our personal business to try and make money.  I am filing a complaint and will take every action necessary to keep people like you off of my credit report.  STOP INVADING OUR PRIVACY...I will be sending you company a very nice letter.

I also have an inquiry on my reports from Experian and TransUnion dealing with Figis/Charming shoppes as well as their parent company. But I had a security freeze on my accounts when both inquiries happened and I HAVE NOT EVER done business with the parent company or any subsidiary of theirs. So there does not appear to be any way to prevent this companies inquiry. I have filed multiple complaints and all were routinely dismissed.

If you use your own credit card or debit card, then they don't check your credit.  However if you use Figis Pre-approved credit, then it does state in the catalog that "all orders are subject to credit approval (which involves a possible credit check)".   If you place an order by phone the agent should have told you at the end of the call either  "your credit request has been approved and your order has been accepted" (meaning they wouldn't need to do a credit check) or they could have said "all orders are subject to credit approval (credit check), if there is a problem with your order you will be notified".    Figis provides a no interest deferred payment plan, which means customers can purchase products, have them delivered to others as gifts or to themselves and then have 3 months to pay off the balance.  Say a customer makes a purchase in November 2013 for a total of $99.99 to be delivered for Christmas 2013 - Figis can spread the payments over 3 months $33.33 to be paid Starting February, March and April of 2014.  Figis doesn't charge interest if payments are made within the payment period.  Because Figis is taking a risk, they need to know a persons credit worthiness.  To avoid a credit check, then use your own credit card or debit card.  Or stay within your pre-approved credit limit.  If a customer is given a $200 limit, then that customer should keep the entire order (including the Shipping & handling) under $200.  If the customer goes over, then their credit could still be checked.  That said Figis could still check credit if the order was under $200.  It all depends.

I also just found that the Figis/Charming Shoppes requested credit info on me.   I also DID NOT AUTHORIZE them to do so and have never heard of them before.  But now that I have, I won't be doing any business in the future with them!
