Unknown caller called with a pre-recorded message from 44-208-831-2488 (or 442088312488). He offered to lower our interest rate on our credit cards. The message says to hit 1 to talk to a live person or 2 to be removed. The removal doesn't work. I pressed 2 to be removed the very first time they called but they continue to call.

The calls seem to originate in UK, but these days you never know. In any case, beware! They might be phishing for credit card information.

    This morning June 12 2007 I received the same pre-recorded message as Kimberlin mentions in the above message. It's the second time they've tried to call and I also have hit 2 to be removed, we'll see if it works. I'm on the No-call list for my state of residence so I normally don't receive many calls like this. The thing that made me especially alert was what seemed like a foreign country code preceding the area code. How does one find where the call originated from? Kimberlin how did you get the information that it may have originated in the U.K?

    Got the same as everyone else.  Filed a complaint with the FTC via the following website: https://www.donotcall.gov/Complain/ComplainCheck.aspx

    Hopefully they will do something about it.

    This number is still calling - I got it this morning but did not pick up because I didn't recognize the number.  No message was left.

    I recived one today with same message but phone number was slightly different. It was 44-207-227-0253

    I've received calls from this number repeatedly, but they are always days or weeks apart. Sometimes I've hit 1 just to see whether I would ever connect to anyone; today after a short wait there was a small, withdrawn voice: "hello?" I shouted at full volume, "WHAT PART OF DO NOT CALL DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?!!" and hung up.

    The calls are _so_ annoying, and that didn't give me any satisfaction. I even feel bad for losing my temper.

    You are better off just not answering strange calls.  If it is something important, they will leave a message; just be sure you have an answering machine or voice mail to pick up.  Don't leave yourself open to scams. Oh, and if you get an e-mail saying you are getting a lot of money -- from a stranger -- PLEASE don't respond to it.  Register a complaimt instead.  If nobody sends their information in, the phishers should eventually give up.

    I got this number calling this morning..  44-208-817-5628 I am in Maine.

    This site http://www.thedirectory.org/pref/ will give you the area codes for all states, Canadian Provinces, U.S. Territories and the Caribbean.

    I am also getting calls from another similar # 44-208-870-3987.  The numbers on the caller ID all ran together with no dashes.  There was no name listed at all - just the numbers.  Didn't answer and they didn't leave a message.  I am in Michigan and am on the national 'do not call list' which doesn't appear to mean much.

    We got a call from 44 208 887 7521.  No message was left. Does anyone have a clue as to how certain phone #'s are selected to get these scam calls?

    I have no idea why they are calling.. but I've been getting them lately too.. the number on mine is 44-208-801-6682.  So annoying..

    They probably get that many times a day.  They just hung up and answered the next automatic call.  They also use many different numbers

    i got a call from this number, it was missed, and i have many other +44 207 calls. its annyoing & ive missed all of them. im not going to answer because i know it is a scam and if its so important they can leave a message.

    I received one from 442083844773 that dialed my cell on April 8,2008. It had a short ring sequence before they gave up. No message. I'm in Virginia. All these calls must be overheating the disk drives at NSA.

    I've also got 442087926040 yesterday, no message left after a small silence. We are in Alma, Quebec.
