Mildred Derrough Pope
Country: United States
Received in mail supposedly a free training video; with instructions to read material then login with your reservation code found on the envelope
only to be told you are now eligible to become a platinum member for locating HUD properties due for refunds.  None of the so called promises or
products really work.  All I am asking for at this point is the money Smart
Tools has scammed from me in the amount of $148.94 refunded.  Location: My Smart Tools, 5120 W. Overland Rd #178, Boise, ID 83705, telephone 1-866-798-0432.

Looking forward your response soonest.

Sincerely,
Mildred Derrough Pope

Hi, I own mysmart-tools.com. We are a software design company based in the UK and nothing to do with the company listed above by Mildred. They have somehow stolen my email address and even add my real name to their emails. I am at a loss on how to stop this but I urge you not to send any money to these people.

It might appear that they "stole" your email address and domain name, but they just created a very similar one by leaving out the "-" between smart and tools.  I don't think there is any way to stop that, particularly since you are in a different country.

I am a current memeber using Smart Tools. I can vouch that Smart Tools is legit and more importantly it works for me.  I came back to this forum to confront Mildred Pope and expose her lies.

First of all, the Platnuim Search Upgrade DOES NOT NEED TO BE PURCHASED! It is different than the Original HUD Data and your month membership fees pay for access to that.

Now, I would like to address your statment, "None of the so called promises or products really work".  This is your OWN buisness, and there are no promises that you will be successful.  They even tell you that!  Smart Tools gives you quality information and service, the rest is up to you.

In closing, shame on you Mildred!  It would appear your lack of participation in this program has left you uninformed and instead of owning your own failure, you have distorted the truth so you can blame others.  The only one you should be angry at for scamming you is yourself.

Let Mildred be a warning, an example of how NOT to proceed if you want to use Smart Tools.  Be informed, trust.... but verify!

The statement that Smarttools ripped her off is as ignorant as not following directions in order to get the final results similar to those you receive the directions/step-by-step instructions. In what way were you ripped off? You stated your refund amount so inless there is additional monies that you had to come out of pocket for oustanding then you weren't scammed your just lazy.

If it is not a scam, how about telling us how much you make and how much time and money you invest. How long have you been doing it?  I am aware that most scams have a shill that touts the value and integrity of their enterprise. Again, I am totally at the mercy of your imagination and veracity. As of now I disinclined to pursue the entrance into the business. Verification of any kind, but preferably from a member of Smarttools would be appreciated.

It does not seem to me that Mildred is ignorant or lazy. The effort to do this does not take a genius. It merely takes someone willing to work. It seems to me that you need to do more than castigate her to prove her inadequacy. You give no personal or formal or factual items to prove your own attack.  As of right now, I am disinclined to do Smarttools.  I believe you are a company shill.

I agree with you, matt. It has worked well for me too. I have been doing this 2 years now. These people who say these bad things about this business have to ask themselves something: How hard did you try? This is a lot of fun, but it's work like anything else. I agree with darlene, too: never mind the mail,(the way the manual tells you to do it),contact the people directly and start in your own local area. After all, if you lived in california and got a letter from massachussetts that said"have this notarized and send it back",what would you do with it? right in the trash right? also, you don't have to get a new list every month. there are so many of them out there,I am still working off of july's list, and it's feb. The best one i've processed was in ct. My 25% was 531.00. when i went to collect it,she was having a roof put on her house, and was practically crying she was so happy to get her refund. yes, believe me, this can be done,it just takes some common sense as far as how you go about it.

Matt Turner hit the nail on the head.  There is nothing underhanded going on here.  If you watched the video for free and really paid attention, you'd find that it's legit and you can actually make a good deal of money.

Name one person who isn't happy to hear that they have a handfull of money just waiting for them to prove who and where they are to receive it.   Mildred just didn't follow thru.  I'm nearing 70 years of age and it's actually nice to have something besides a mere pitance from Social Security to survive on.  No one ever slams the phone in your ear, their to busy thanking you for going through the trouble of finding them. I wish someone would call and surprise me with a couple of thousand dollars.
    Happy Holidays All.

I have to say, technically, Smart Tools is not a scam.  However, they are not being truly honest with you.  First of all, realistically speaking, the amount of money you can make is not even close to what they say can be made. After a full year of working this program, I will contend that you can expect to make no more than $100 from each refund, no matter how much they are due back.  A lot of my potential clients refuse to pay more than that, especially when they can get the refund themselves without a Tracer.  Most months I barely break even with this investment. I send out about 400 letters a month, which is not cheap.  I spend about $180 a month, and this is not including the Smart Tools Membership Fee of $39.99 a month or the expensive People Searches I produce constantly. In my experience, you can expect only 1 to 2 people a month to work with you which is under the 2% ratio they told me may respond. I would also like to add that their Customer Service is practically worthless. I get so many contradictory answers, I found it is best to call up HUD themselves to claify.  Another thing that bothers me is that I would constantly get hung up on while asking questions.  They say it is the phone lines.  Of course when you speak with them, they seem so put off and annoyed, it is hard to believe them when they say it's just a technical issue.  If you do speak with anyone, ask for either Shawn or Kim, as they were the most consistant and helpful.  I don't even bother asking for a Manager anymore as they were either not there or too busy to speak with me and address my concerns.  Rarely did they call me back like they promised either.  Needless to say, after all my hard work I have quit working this program.  I write this in hopes that someone else will not waste time or money on a program that while legal, simply does not work.  My suggestion is to stay away!  This program from my experience is lacking integrity and more importantly potential.

I am starting this program and recenttly read this e-mail and I am really concerned about this program.  Why are you getting only $100.00 dollars back when you are suppose to get 25%? Do you have a notorized document that the borrower will pay you 25% of the refund.  If yes, you have a   document by law.

Please respond to my e-mail address   csopala@verizon.net

      Thanks so much

Dear Mr. knowmrno,  why do you only get $100.00 back, when you have a notorized letter stating they agree to pay you 25%?

      Thanks,
