MY HUSBAND ASKED ME TO CALL A COLLECTION AGENCY BECAUSE HE WANTED TO SETTLE A DEBT. I CALLED TO LTD FINANCIAL SERVICES, AND I SPOKE TO 5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE. THE LAST PERSON WAS VERY RUDE. I WANTED TO SEND THEM MONEY ORDERS ON A PAYMENT PLAN TO SETTLE AN ACCOUNT AND THEY SAID NO.. THAT WE NEEDED A CHECKING ACCOUNT AND THERE WAS NO OTHER OPTION. WELL WE DONT HAVE A CHECKING ACCOUNT AND I TOLD THAT PERSON. I ALSO ASKED HIM IF I CAN WESTERN UNION THE PAYMENTS AND HE SAID NO, WE KNOW YOUR HUSBAND HAS AN ACTIVE SAVINGS ACCOUNT AND WE NEED THAT INFORMATION. WE ARE TRYING TO SETTLE AND THEY DIDNT HELP. AND I WAS VERY UPSET AND TOLD HIM NEVERMIND AND I HUNG UP.

The reason collection agencies insist on checking accounts Is because many debtors say they will mail in or western union payments then they don't if someone mistrusts a collection agency call your creditor and verify whether or not your account has been placed with them and lastly don't forget when you get to collections you owe the balance in full not a portion meet collections agencies half way besides they're just collecting your bill. You dont argue with your landlord when he collects your rent. Pay your bills people.

      Brenda,
I am offended by your comments.  LTD Financial Services went after me for a debt that wasn't mine.  In their response to my state's Attorney General, they said that they called me because I have a similar name to the individual they were seeking.  I have a very common last name, and I PAY MY BILLS!!

Brenda, do you work for LTD or any other collection agency?   Folks are in a heap of trouble now....every financial institution should be working with the debtor rather than pounding them to death.  No way EVER would I give my checking account number to any of the idiots and scammers.

I pay my bills and I have just been contacted by these individuals over an account that I am dealing directly with the credit company about.  There was an error on the creditors side and we have been working for months together to fix it and when I received the call from LTD I was astounded as was my creditor when I called.  So don't make assumptions on people paying their bills or not because errors do occur and NOBODY is infallible.

Pretty rude, there, Brenda. Especially when commenting on a thread about an agency which is CLEARLY dishonest at very best. Don't think that just because your hidden behind your keyboard that you have some special right to humiliate and degrade people you have never met and know nothing about.

always refer back to client co and ask them to have acct sent back to them and then younwill settle-dont settle with collection agency.also settle with original creditor an ask for a delete for settlement letter so it will come off credit bureau after payment

I have researched Ltd, you seem awfully arrogant, not to mention proud of the fact you work for a fraudulent company. You pull this place and number up it says scam all over it. Hope you sleep well trying to scam unsuspecting people out of their bank info.

Agreed. We should pay our bills.

But sometimes even people with a 25 year history of a near perfect credit rating confront unforeseen financial circumstances not of their own making.  In such cases, it is shameful that some banks charge interest and penalties in excess of 29%!  When people are in dire straights and struggling to pay their bills it would be helpful for the banks and their collection agencies to take a holistic view of a person's ability to pay and discuss payment plans with interest rates that align with the lowest in recent American history.  In fact, for those of in dire situations, the banks should rescind the huge amounts of interest they charge.

For instance, I have been trying to negotiate a settlement with Citibank but they are intransigent.  Over the course of making a best effort toward resolution, Citibank has charged us thousands of dollars in interest, thus making it harder and harder to find the money to settle.

I agree with you.  It puzzles me that interest rates are at a historic low, except for banks and credit cards which are at a historic high.  What is wrong with this picture?  if they want people to pay, they need to be reasonable and above all, be extremely accurate.  Which, they are not.

There is absolutly no reason debt collectors can not reduce the amount owed. They pay pennies on the dollar and add on numerous charges because 9 times out of 10 people don't know they can negotiate and accept the harrassment they dish out. Don't take it and they need to remember that is people didn't have a hard time paying their bills these days, they themselves would be out of a job.

LTD does not own the debts they are collecting on. They are a third party debt collector. Again, they are not buying the debt. That being said they have policies in place to prevent any wrong doing towards the consumer, they can't be 100% because they're dealing with people and everyone has bad days. There's the people element at work and that can't be controlled. LTD uses different systems to trace consumers when the information from the creditor isn't sufficient in finding the debtor. Once it is verified that they have the wrong person contact ceases.

same situation. I contacted a lawyer and he said it sounded bogus. He sent a letter asking them to validate the debt and they never did. BUT, now 9 months later, they are calling again. This was just on the news. These companies are watching credit scores go up after hardships and calling to collect bogus debts. They said we owed 77k, but they would settle for 8k. WHAT?! WOW! So in other words, I dont owe you [***], youre just trying to get over on me! Contact a lawyer or the FDCPA, what they are doing is illegal.

LTD also uses spoof to make it look like they are calling from a local number hoping to trick you into answering the phone.  That is fraud.
