24ProtectPlus charged my credit card $14.95. I've never had any business with the company. I called the 800 number given on their website 800-211-9749 and spoke to a woman who agreed to stop my "membership", and refund the money. I will be watching my card to make sure the money is refunded. I also don't understand how this company is still in business as I found complaints on the web dated as far as 2004!

They appear to be some "membership club":

If you let them just string you along with promises of a refund, so that you fail to send a timely written dispute to your bank within 60 days from your statement date showing an unauthorized fraudulent charge, your bank no longer has to investigate your dispute.  Don't drop the ball.

File a written dispute thru your credit card company, and change your credit card number to block future charges.

I too was put on this service without knowing about it aand also the other service PMI Identity and they continue to charge me even after I talked to them and the credit card company.  Isn't there some sort of federal protection for this?  No wonder the Federal Reserve is thinking of regulating credit card companies.  Now how asbout protecting us from Internet fraud.  Bertold Brecht was right(look/see)

I was being charged with out knowledge as well. I have been being charged for 4 months. I feel stupid for not looking at my statements but I didn't think I had to being that I haven't used that card and I was trying to pay down a balance that was quite high. Something made me look today and realized what was going on. I spoke to a Christine who said she would cancel my account and refund me the 4 months charged, but she reminded me that she was doing that as a courtesy. I could not believe she said that. You're stealing my money and when I caught you you're only giving it back as a courtesy. What balls! I told her that there was a website dedicated to complaints about her company making charges on credit cards without authorization. I told her I was calling the BBB. She said that I authorized this purchase while on peoplelookup.com and a confirmation email was sent for me to confirm the purchase. This is crap, because I never recieved an email confirming an order and if I had I would have denied it. This is a credit protection agency(ha) and I already have the same service with someone else, so why would I pay for another one? She then asked me if I was on peoplelookup.com which I was so she said that that means that I authorized this purchase then. I said no, that I used my card to purchase something on that website and her company fished my info and that is illegal. I called that particular credit card and changed the account number and listed the charges as fraud, good luck charging me again. I am not believing her refund line. She couldn't even tell me the total amount she was refunding. She said 4 payments of $14.95, I said yeah ok which means you will be refunding a total of .....she said she didn't know, come on. After that I called my credit card company and let them do the investigation. I've learned my lesson, make sure websites are secure before purchasing and always check your credit card statements, whether you've used them or not. I hope these people get shut down, because they are crooks and then they want a thank you when they get caught and return your money.

I have a PayPal account that was accessed somehow by this company and they charged me $39.90.  I had not used this PayPal account prior to this transaction. I had backup funding attached to my personal checking account and it debited my personal checking account.  I disputed the charge with my bank and they removed the charge. PayPal wonders how they got access to my information and I could not come up with any scenario on how this was done.  I have not contacted these people and have sent a letter to my attorney general to investigate this company.  I included this site to let them know that there are others out there that have fallen victim to these scam artists.  If anyone can find out how they get personal information and charge peoples account please write to alljzup@yahoo.com so that I can pass it along to my attorney generals office and PayPal so that they can put a patch in their system.
    Thanks

Today I noticed 3 charges of 14.95 from 24PROTECTPLUS on the last 3 months of my online credit card statements. I went to "transaction details" and read that the "Merchant Category" is listed as "Merchandise - Direct Marketing - Continuity Subscription."  My credit card company told me I had to call 24ProtectPlus first and request a cancellation/refund before they could file a dispute.  When I called 24ProtectionPlus, they supposedly could not view my account until I gave them my credit card number, which made me uncomfortable, but I gave it anyway, knowing that my next step was to immediately call my credit card company and get the number changed. I, too, paid for an online people search in February and the 24ProtectPlus charges started in March. Luckily, my credit card company agreed to remove the charges, but I'm really angry that this company continues to get rich off scamming people. Why haven't the Feds stepped in? It's SO frustrating!!!

I have been charged by the same company and so has my officemate.
Is there anything we can do about it? I mean other than calling them and the credit card company which hasn't been helpful to anyone here.

I have been charged also by the same company 24ProtectPlus for 12 months!!! Today for some reason while at work I decided to go over my banking account and notice this charge and as I'm going thru my account I see every month I'm charged this $14.95 but this month it was for $17.95 so also watch for that amount.  I went online and put in that 800 number that was listed on google and came across alot of complaints from people going thru this also.  I gave him a call and was told because I went on Intelllius blah blah blah but I told her I never authorized anything and if I do not get reimburse for the full amount for over a  year that I will get a lawyer, etc. She then apologized and placed me on hold for a few minutes to the supervisor which she advises that it will be taken care within 2 days.  I received a confirmation email from them so I had replied back and advised that I wanted to be refunded for an autodraft too that was caused by this.  So we will see but I am going to get my paperwork together and send over to the Attorney General's office.  Somthing has to be done because this is not legal!!!

I have been charged for months back to May 07,(1.00 & $14.95) without looking at my bank statement to realize( I call in to hear amounts taken from checking account) what they have been doing to me. ALSO MY BANK WILL NOT ISSUE ME OTHER DEBIT CARD. they reason that due to the fact I lost mine once then had a new one reissued they cannot issue me other debit card a second time, only an atm card.(Makes me want to also change Banks.)ALSO I,ve been charged $29.95 per month from a company called PMIDENTITY.CO
which may be the same company. I called them 888-840-7107 They refunded 2 months only .

As like everyone else. I recently reviewed my credit card statement to see a charge of $29.95 on my account that was not authorized. I spoke to some lady that told me that there system was down, and i would have to call back but kept getting the run around about some membership that I signed up for when it was not true. The lady couldn't even tell me what membership I signed up for, let alone the date I was signed up. I'm not for sure where exactly they are located, but it doesn't seem like they're in Colorado. The lady couldn't even speak good English!!!

I ran into the same problem -- when I requested something on a one-time basis from Intelius, BOTH Intelius and 24PROTECTPLUS charges of $19.95 suddenly appeard.  Fortunately, I HAD CHARGED THESE TO A CREDIT CARD, NOT A DEBIT OR A BANK CARD. Credit card companies are equipped to handle things like this, banks are not.  My credit card company gives me 60 days to dispute the charge, so I have written them a dispute letter with reasons (these are required) NOTE: DISPUTES MUST BE IN WRITING -- PHONE CALLS DON'T COUNT.  I have also forward a copy of my letter to the Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission because I contend the 24PROTECTPLUS charges constitute fraud (a deliberate deception to obtain unlawful gain). MORAL: REVIEW YOUR CHARGES EVERY MONTH.
