Online/YP Directory Listing Invoice Scam

Received an invoice today from a company entitled "Direct Business Pages Publication Inc." stating that the hospital I work for owes them a past due amount of $495.95 for online and directory listing.

While the "invoice" does display the traditional Yellow Pages logo in the upper-left corner under the business name, no other area of the invoice states that it is in fact for an online/directory listing in the Yellow Pages.

After some research I have found that the business address listed for this company (132 East 43rd St #4, New York, NY 10017) turns out to be the location of a UPS Store.  Two listed telephone numbers: 800-668-5675 & FAX 718-576-1616.  Tried both.  The 800 number, a Fax machine picks up and when I tried to fax a test page to the 718 number, no surprise, the confirmation page listed the number as busy/no response.

I also found no listing whatsoever for a "Direct Business Pages Publication Inc." in the ACTUAL New York Yellow Pages.  Additionally, the envelope return address is different from the "invoice" address.  The person the "invoice" is addressed to has not worked here for 5 years, and yet, it is claimed that she ordered the "online directory listing services" for 2009-2011.

Wanted to inform all who visit this site to throw this "invoice" away.  It is totally bogus.

    Sent to us in OH for the second time AFTER they had the nerve to call me and request payment.  When they caught on that they wern't fooling me they rudely hung up.

    We just received one today too.  I've been getting verifications for quite some time, not a bill.  But this one was a bill demanding $495.95.  The person's name at the top has not been in that position for almost 10 years. Also, the phone # and the name of the company were not even listed correctly.  I've done the usual reverse phone, address, googled the name etc.  Funny, nothing ever shows up under that name.  It's annoying, aggravating and a time waster.  Unfortunately, the "fingers walking" bug at the top makes it look legit.  What most people don't realize is that it's not even used by the phone directory companies and hasn't been for many years.  People just remember the "let the fingers do the walking".. I'll just let my fingers ball up this bill and toss it out!

    We are an allergy clinic and this came in for 2 of our offices. All bills go through me so I knew it was fraud. How can this be stopped? Any ideas how we can ban together to mass report this?

    same invoice, same logo, same address. very prof. looking with acctt # and invoice #. and threatening 1.5% interest if not paid in time. i am surprised that they keep functioning for such a long time.

    Work for a medical company and today received the same type of invoice to the "attn:" of an old employee. I'm talking more than 4 years gone. Directory listing services are for 2009-2011 for $495.95. Tried to call the 800# and got a "this mail box is full".

    We have the exact invoice.  Our bookkeeper has been trying to contact the company with no response.  Thank you one and all for doing your due diligence in researching this scam.

    Got one here in ffx va. I'm new at this medial office and I thought it was weird since we never used that vendor before and the manager at the site didn't really know what it was.

    Received one at a pediatric office in Central New York.  Thanks for all the comments.  Luckily our AP person knew to question this since she does not work during business hours.  I too called and got a 'mailbox full' message then decided to look up on line, this was the first website I saw and what an eye opener!  Off to the FTC website now!

    Our medical office got the exact same bill in the exact same amount with the same results when I called the # on the bill.  They should be reported!
