Online/YP Directory Listing Invoice Scam

Received an invoice today from a company entitled "Direct Business Pages Publication Inc." stating that the hospital I work for owes them a past due amount of $495.95 for online and directory listing.

While the "invoice" does display the traditional Yellow Pages logo in the upper-left corner under the business name, no other area of the invoice states that it is in fact for an online/directory listing in the Yellow Pages.

After some research I have found that the business address listed for this company (132 East 43rd St #4, New York, NY 10017) turns out to be the location of a UPS Store.  Two listed telephone numbers: 800-668-5675 & FAX 718-576-1616.  Tried both.  The 800 number, a Fax machine picks up and when I tried to fax a test page to the 718 number, no surprise, the confirmation page listed the number as busy/no response.

I also found no listing whatsoever for a "Direct Business Pages Publication Inc." in the ACTUAL New York Yellow Pages.  Additionally, the envelope return address is different from the "invoice" address.  The person the "invoice" is addressed to has not worked here for 5 years, and yet, it is claimed that she ordered the "online directory listing services" for 2009-2011.

Wanted to inform all who visit this site to throw this "invoice" away.  It is totally bogus.

    I too received this just the other day at my family practice and since we don't advertise in any phone book I knew we weren't past due but called and got no response so I googled to find any further info and found this site.  Thank you!

    I work for a Medical Health Center in the Accounts Payable Department. Recently received an invoice also.  It will not get pass my desk so easy without querying and only to find out what everyone else did. Sorry! have no scam vendors on my list.

    It appears that they are heading west, got one in Boise, Idaho today.  After reading previous posts, I'm not going to bother with anything beyond chucking this in the trash can.

    Received 3 invoices for $495.95 (2009-2011) today for of our medical office locations in the Albany NY area.  Going in trash.

    Just received a phone call from male representative for this company (couldn't understand all he said - didn't speak english very well) wanting my information to cancel the billing.  Also had the name of past employee from over 5 years ago.  He was very pushy and when I told him that his company was considered a scam and hung up on him he called back right away and wanted to speak to me again.  Very aggressive and rude.  We almost paid the original invoice in February but noticed it was a scam and cancelled the check.  Don't give any information over the phone to "cancel" the internet advertising.

    Contact FTC to file a fraud complaint.

    If you are receiving fraudulent invoices through the U.S. Mail for anything you never ordered or agreed to, contact the U.S. Postal Inspector to report it as mail fraud.

    I am currently going through the same thing.
    My case is pretty much the same. I received a call 2 months ago about some money I owed for a try-before-you-buy service they claim I signed up for. I told her "I see how this works... I'm not paying it." She hung up.
    Then I immediately received a call back from a guy who said they would created a bogus mailing address for me and send their invoice there. That way I would never have to deal with it again... Then he put me on the phone with a person "who would confirm the cancellation".
    They recorded my call. Got me to confirm my name and mailing address (the new one they created for me), and that was that.
    Yesterday I received an invoice through my fax for an invoice of $560.00. The collection guy called me yesterday on my cell and left a message. He called again today and explained to me that "I ordered a service 2 months ago..." and I am now delinquent in payment. I irately hung up after I told him that we have no such written agreement. He called and left me two messages immediately after, (because I was busy talking with my attorney on the other line)explaining to me that this verbal contract was completely legal and en forcible and that I should be looking for this complaint to show up on my credit report.

    My attorney is looking over the information I have and will be contacting them shortly.

    If you get a call from YP.com or YellowPages and it doesn't matter what they say in their intro, HANG UP RIGHT AWAY.

    We received the same notice to our business in Hayward, California. I guess they must get some people to pay since they don't give up. What a bunch of low life crooks.
