Seems Like the more SPG CONSULTANTS moves forward, we are uncovering a dirty little secret that no one wants to stand up and fight against. Telemarketing Fraud
it seems that every state we go to and every other business has had one of those calls

Hello… We would like to verify your companies Listing Online
Are you still At ___________________ now this is where the telemarketing companies get tricky they ask you a series of question knowing full well you going to say yes to like the address city and zip … as soon as you reply to any of their questions you’ve been trapped

the conversation is the taken to the verification department, the verification will then call you back and see if they can legitimately get you to to commit to a listing but try to remind you of the first conversation you have with the previous sales agent where you were told it was for a 4 or even 5 year listing online for 500.00$. sounds great 500$ for a 4 year listing online ..but don’t be fooled even though you were reminded the verification department will only say for your ONE YEAR listing online will be invoiced to your attention ..now if you agree you’ve been SCAMMED .. in about 35 day you’ll receive a invoice for the 500.00$ and it will be already past due and a will following the invoice here comes the calls from the collection department.

Now here is where the Company get Slick… if they get through the full script of the verification and you turned them down and said NO..
Well that’s too bad. Why? you ask. Cause they have the recording of you saying yes to all the other questions from the earlier call and all they have to do is now put your voice saying yes over the part where you said no.

Now I won’t go into detail about how much money my client have lost and I won’t go on on about why its taking the government over 20 year to stop this type of fraud
all i can say is Yes There is help out there and yes someone does care about you and your business.

Want to know how big this problem is these are companies that is sending out invoice to people just like you and I who run businesses for our future and our families

Have you been contacted by any of the following companies regarding your online listing or an outstanding invoice?

THAT’S RIGHT THE LIST IS THIS LONG

Mass Marketing Fraud is defined as fraud committed via mass communication media using the telephone, mail, and the Internet. Provisions under the criminal regime of the Competition Act prohibit all materially false or misleading representations made YellowPages.com

Yellowpages.com is an internet advertising portal that alleges to increase the clients internet exposure to searchers looking for the product or service that you provide in a given geographic area. The business practices of yellowpages.com are questionable at best and are possibly criminal. Their actual exposure is limited.

Their advertising graphics are amateur. Their results are insignificant to non-existent. All in all, this is a boiler-room operation that uses high-pressure sales tactics promising unrealistic returns, tying clients to heavy-handed contracts followed by harassing phone calls and collection procedures.

The fact that the local, state, and federal regulators have allowed this type of immoral operation to continue, should not deter the scammed business owner from fighting these criminals.

knowingly or recklessly, deceptive telemarketing and deceptive prize notices.

Anyone scammed by big city yellow pages?

    E in Colorado
Our business has been targeted for months by this or a similar group. They get info from an unsuspecting employee, whose name appeared later on one of the fraudulent "invoices."
These contacts have to be outright crimes, because they present an invoice for services never rendered, they use the U.S. Mail to further their crime, and they then lie on the phone. One week, a man calling himself Jim Gonzalez claimed to be working for (the Yellow Pages-sounding company); weeks later, same guy says he's with a Collection Agency!

The clever part, I believe, is that the supposed link to "their" website
actually merely jumps to links associated with legitimate FREE-listing website owned by ATT; this then appears to verify a listing with them, when it really is just leaping to another website.
    Suspicious signs:
    1) none of the contact numbers on that site match those given by the
various persons who have continued to call us, nor the numbers listed on legitimate websites.
    2) Callback number given by "Jim" is (800) 706-1108, but that's registered to Shalomar Productions, a shady "New Age UFO Production" in
    551 N Adams Dr Mount Shasta,CA96067-9607
    3) links that redirect to other listings are:
www.the2009yellowpages.com  STILL is active; was apparently created thru GoDaddy.com
    also
www.the2010yellowpages.com  Goes to a dubious link for "U.S.A Media" (note missing period?) ALSO just set up thru GoDaddy

the bogus INVOICES have various return addresses:
    first mail received 7/20/2009 from
    USA Media
    130 Church St. suite #305
New York, NY  10007                               "bill" for $499.99

    second mail received 11/27/2009 from
    2010 Media
    507 Leap Frog Avenue
Las Vegas, NV  89183                           another "bill" for $499.99

MY GUESS is the Feds have been so under-funded, and re-directed to "terror" that they have no resources left to hunt these characters. They might be calling from Canada, etc. BUT clearly mailing addresses put somebody in physical proximity to a mail dropbox, etc. where agents should be able to catch them. Hell, WE could go and stake the place out.
What about some good ol' vigilante justice?

I ran into the same problem as E from Colorado. I am a part-time computer engineer, and if usa media doesn't call me again i'm not going to complain. But if I get another call from Jimmy Gonzales, or another invoice from USA MEDIA; I promise a complant that shows up on the 10 link of google results, is the least of their worries. Good luck, Jim.

Same story for me, this time with "Yellow Blue Media", and I dealt with it over the past couple months this way: I stopped answering their calls. I found their address (in Las Vegas) and sent a letter disputing any invoice and informing them that I had filed complaints against them with the Las Vegas BBB and my state's Attorney General's Office (scam department). I stopped answering their calls from their "collection agency" (in Key West) and they eventually stopped. The Las Vegas BBB followed up and received an email from YellowBlue saying they had contacted me and rectified the situation (they didn't). The Attorney General's office also followed up and received a letter from them saying the same (again, they didn't contact me). Though part of the hassle of a scam like this is the time it takes out of the day of a small business owner, I think it's worth it to put pressure on them and get the word out there. Maybe repeated reports to the Las Vegas BBB would help. Here's where you file a complaint: http://southernnevada.bbb.org/  And here's the company address:

It appears that the number of scammers running this type of scam is increasing.  Although complaints continue against known "business directory" scams, a number of new names show up in the above recent complaints.  Scammers must perceive this scam as "safe" with little risk of consequences to fraud.

Alternaitively, consider that scamms connected to the new names may be already running scams using additional names to hide visibility of their activities.

When filing complaints, the most effective place is usually to your state Attorney General, but be sure to include both FTC and the Attorney General in the state the scam is located.

The scammer's AG might take action, since the scam is on their turf.  FTC appears to take action every few years in these cases, but can eventually be more effective in cross-border scams, of which there are several "yellow pages" ones.  In addition, complaints to FTC may at least get it entered into Consumer Sentinal, available for use by other law enforcement.

Regional Yellow Pages Online - Script

May I speak with the Office Manager please. . .

Hi, my name is - -. I am calling with the Regional Yellow Pages. I am calling regarding your request that you made about three months ago, that you want to remove your listings from our database and cancel all your future listings. Is that correct?

    YES/NO

Yes = Closer. No = Opener

An opener means you do not want to cancel and will be charged the $479.95. This rarely happens so it will be mostly a Closer.

    Closer

Alright - What I will do today is that l will close your account and provide you with a cancellation file # and also, we will send you a Letter of Closure stating that the account is permanently closed with us, which means that we will not be contacting you for any renewals or updates, and we will also put it on our do-not- call, do-not-renew list, OK.

Since the listings were started in - - they will expire in - - and will be purged from our database.

You will also receive the balance of the invoice, which is $ 479.95 and the invoice will be marked FINAL on it.

Do you use purchase order numbers down there or should we just mail this invoice to your attention?

Alright, and the address we have on file is - - OK and your name is- - ? And position - - . Are you authorized to approve and accept this Final Invoice for your Company? (Must be Yes)

OK someone from my Quality Control Department will give you a call later on today and will confirm the mailing address and provide you with your file number.
Anything else I can do for you today?

Thanks for your time and business, and have a great day.

Big City Yellow Pages keeps calling on a business that was located at this address and phone number but closed in the early 80's (prior to 1984). I have that number on a bunch of no call lists but they don't seem to get the message when I tell them it no longer exists and hasn't for a lot of years.

I will chase them to ground the next time they call and then we will have a very direct conversation.

Our company that I do the advertising and marketing has been targeted for years.  Unfortunately a few of these scams have been paid before anyone really caught onto what was going on.  For the past 4 years, we have been bombarded with call after call from 80% of the companies that are on the above list.  Basically, I just let out all of my rage and frustation onto these people when they call now.  I don't treat them any better than the dirt they walk on.  Someone or a company that can rob from the blind like these scammers do, needs a major punishment brought down on them.

The secretary of our church was called and signed up for one year. Our church paid 279.00 and then cancelled it.  Last week she got an email from richard wilson@regionalypages.com stating the church owed $499.99 plus $38.64 for interest.  He said we owed for the second year which was not true since we had cancelled it when the first payment was made.  He claimed to be from a collection agency. He called twice threating to ruin our credit if not paid immediately. We looked it up and saw the scam.  We will not pay anymore.  Where can you report him?
