We receive two calls a day from 1-800-242-5548 the America Reading Club, they ask for a person we do not know.  The calls started about six months ago, we have told them over and over that we do not know the person and they have the wrong number to no avail, we have had the number for three years, they still call.  We have called the phone company and placed them on our do not call list...they still call.  They called this morning at 8:10, they told me to send a copy of my phone bill with my name and number showing and they would take me off the list, I do not think so..... I will not send them any of my information.  Does anyone know how to get off their call list or where to make a complant that has teeth to get rid of these people, they need to be shut down.  I really feel for you all that have bought books and gave them your CC or bank info and can not cancel the account.

We DO NOT buy credit card information from anyone.  All of our customer's may choose to pay by either credit card or check and the customer supplies that information to us.  We sell a magazine package of 5 - 10 magazines for 2 - 5 years and allow you to change your magazines anytime you want at no addtional charge. This is again a case of obvious misstaken identity.  You are referring to Readers Club and we are American Reading Club and have ABSOLUTELY no affiliation with this other company.

This is absolutely untrue.  We do not and have never had an office in Minnesota.  This is a different company.

They called me also. When I asked if they were with the company I already had the woman said yes. She said they were giving me a better rate.  I got suckered! I ended up paying $758.48 to get rid of them. I told the guy that day to put me on the no call list. They called me that day trying to sell me another subscription! Now I have another magize company FAMILY READERS CLUB trying to get money from me.  So now I have 3 subscriptions and I do not read magazines. They can take me to collections. I am sick of being scammed!!!!

I have been reeled in by a guy calling me supposedly involved with American Readers Club, a David Paterson, 646 481-2314 (new York number). In what I thought were payments to clear out my oblication to these creeps I have wired 3 separate Western Union payments to get ready, the West freakin' Indies for a total of $750 on what I think was originally a far lesser obligation. Of course, I can't get paperwork from them, I get threats. They say if I now send $250 more I will get my money back. No deal. This is a horrendous situation. I have been threatened and I don't like it.

Does anyone have a suggestion for me. How do I get my cell phone number away from them, my street address, etc. Just a mess, I feel so stupid and taken advantage of...are their steps I can take to hit back?

An investigation is currently underway into the potentially fraudulent activities of North Atlanta Magazine, also known as American Reading Club and "The Publishers."  The good news is you can help others avoid being robbed over the phone.  Please email us to tell us your story at MagazineScam@yahoo.com .
