CIC CE Credit Report took $12.95 from my checking account without my permission. In addition they turned out to be running a marketing scam which promises $500 in Lowe's gift certificate. I've decided to try to get the certificate and followed the steps where you provide your information to different companies.

The first section was alright and ultimately did not cost me anything but after completing the requirements for one section it would move you to another section each time promising that this would be the last section. In all I submitted to Blockbuster Video and receiving movies from them via mail, I was able to contact them and cancel the deal.

Then several major credit card companies of which I was not approved and therefore not eligible to move past those sections it was impossible for me to reach the end. In addition was Columbia house video which would not except my cancellation and I am still fighting with.

Then several on-line business opportunities one of which I contacted but after finding it to be a pyramid type set-up promptly backed out of but still receive a minimum of two phone calls every other day from (602) 279-5491 and (171) 384-8386.

In addition my e-mail has been bombarded with junk e-mail from different companies of which no matter how many times I un-subscribe continue to send me more than sixty e-mails a day many of them duplicated 6-8 times and being sent at the same time.

Don't fall for this scam and stay away from CIC CE Credit Report

Many other reports of similar problems on ripoffreport.com and complaintsboard.com.  Problems reported include unauthorized charges, or charges for what they thought was a free trial that they then could not get cancelled.

They appear to be the same company as Freecreditreport.com, and therefore as Consumerinfo.com:

    http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/284/RipOff0284830.htm

    "Report: #284830

Consumerinfo.com is also known as CIC Triple Advantage, and appears to be owned by Experian.  "CIC Triple Advantage" is currently listed as No. 1 "worst rated" on complaintsboard.com.  They have many similar complaints across all their DBAs.  According to their BBB report, Consumerinfo.com also does business under these names:

    creditmatters.com
    FreeCreditReport.com
    homeradar.com
    QSpace.com
    www.consumerinfo.com
    ConsumerInfo.Com
    CIC Triple Advantage

    Experian Consumer Direct
    Credit Report Monitoring Service
    Iplace, Inc.

    Consumer Information

They reached a settled with FTC in 2005, and another one in 2007, regarding disclosure of the terms of their "free credit report" offers, and confusion created by their advertising with the federally mandated free annual credit reports.

Since they are under a settlement agreement with FTC, contact FTC if you have any problems with unauthorized charges or misrepresentations.

Hey there. I started noticeing the $12.95 charge to my credit card, I didn't know for a couple of months who it was and now I have the 411, but I did not order a monthly service. I will try to contact them as well as report it to my credit card company. I also plan to contact the FTC as well. How's it going for the rest of you guys?

Each month my checking account is debted 12.95 - each month I have had to call CIC CE Credit Report and request that these funds be deposited back into my account and request that they discontinue debting my account.  My requests seem to continually be ignored.

I just got a $15 charge as well. I called them and had to cancel the service. There's information on their site about how if you don't cancel the service they will charge your credit card every month. I was able to get a hold of someone within seconds and she explained everything to me and was able to cancel it on the spot. Their 800# is 1-877-481-6826

I also found this charge on my credit card. It was for 14.75. I called to cancel and after the guy repeatedly trying to get my to continue on with my membership I was finally able to cancel it. I then asked for a refund. He told me that he could not give me a refund because it's clearly stated on the website. I asked to speak to his supervisor and he then put me on hold while he talked to his supervisor. He came back and said he could refund me for the first month only. Thank goodness it had only been one month or else I would have had to argue with this guy longer. I love how he said that he couldn't give me a refund and then conveniently changed his mind when he realized that I wasn't going to give up bothering him. This website is so awful.

I, too, got this charge of 14.95 on my card.  I called and spoke to a wonderful lady who helped me.  Turns out, someone I don't even know is using my DEBIT CARD to charge this.  They canceled the account and are also refunding my money.  The name on the account was ALEXIS KIMBRO(sp?).  I also called my bank to report fraudulent charges and now I have to have another debit card issued.

Yeah so just had a run in with some representative whose name I could not even pronounce regardless of speaking 4 languages. When directing them to close my account, I received a long speech about how I needed to check my account first before she closes it. I directed her again to close it. She again went on with her tiring call-center rhetoric. I asked to speak with a supervisor. She said "They are all in a meeting". I said, "How convenient, then please hand me off to a floor lead.".

Suddenly it was, "Ok sir your account will be closed and you will receive a notification via email that your account has been closed."

Just remember people, these are the people who monitor YOUR credit. Kind of places an emphasis on faith in the credit agencies yes?

I just almost got in a fight with these people. They charged me $14.95 for a 9 day trial (which of course, they don't tell you you're signed up for it) and overdrew my checking account in the process. I just called them and they canceled the account, but because it had been past 7 days, they would not refund the money. They also asked me for my social security number and mother's maiden name in checking my account, which I found very suspicious. They said they canceled the account, and that I'd receive no further charges, but if I do, you better believe I'll be on the phone with my bank getting them banned from ever touching my account. Moreover, I'm probably going to change my card number now to prevent this from happening again.

    Pissed!  Same here, $12.95.

Calling tomorrow at 6am when they open, 800-388-8725.

Once you call them and cancel, you should receive an email confirming the cancellation.  If they continue to debit your account, go to your bank (or CC company) and submit the email as proof that you canceled the service.  The bank can put a stop pay on the company's automatic debit, and they won't be able to take money out anymore.  Also, if you contact your bank within 60 days of an unauthorized debit, they should be able to refund you the charges within a couple of business days.

I just discovered a pending debit transaction for $12 to my account from
CIC CE.I checked back and discovered they have been doing this for months! Once they are processed the debits are listed as "Triple Advantage".  Fortunately, I caught the "pending" transaction, because that lists it as a Credit Report charge, until it goes through.
I immediately called 800-388-8725, they cancelled any future charges and eliminated the pending charge. They wouldn't refund the others.

Like Linda above me, I had the same charge to my account. Oddly, I had canceled my account back in July and they were still charging me. The agent mentioned that I could still see my past reports @ freecreditreport.com.
So there are somehow attached to them, but don't take there cancellation orders from them. So use the 800-388-8725, and get them canceled too.

I applied for a credit report. Had to put in a cc number first. And got my credit score but not report. And it was good for 30 days. But no where did i see my cc would be billed for $14.95 . Let alone after catching this today. This was done on Oct. 11th and they billed my card on the Oct. 19th. Did it say i would be billed unless i wanted a full report. And this full report was for $24.95. Not the $14.95 i was billed. And I DID NOT want this. I only wanted my score. No where did i read i would be billed each month this amount. And where i got my score went to to get my score was not freecreditreport.com. But yet this company charged me!! I will be disputing this and trying to get my cc credit back. Any advice. Thanks

If you guys Have ISSUES with this Company - YOU NEED TO report it to the BBB (Better Business Bureau). This will help any cause if a class action suit is to pursue.

    I have been getting charged:

    To: MICAELA
    Account:
    Transaction date: 10/30/2008
    Amount: $14.95
    Merchant: CIC CE CREDIT REPORT

    This company uses many names.

When I called my credit card company and told them my situation, the teller asked if it was TRIPLE ADVANTAGE. So, this is a big issue. However, NO One will know about it if it isn't reported properly. Posting your complaints on Blogs and Forums does NOT solve the problem. Protect others, so that one day, they will protect you! You need to post your complaints on sites that promote good business practices.

As you can see, someone else has reported this at the BBB: http://www.dallas.bbb.org/WWWRoot/Report.aspx?site=50&bbb=0875&firm=90118584

But ONLY 1 person. Looking at this forum and at Google for this company - there is More then 1 person being affected.

When there are more complaints filed, the BBB does more then "look" into accounts. They become active. So please, If you have issues/had issues - report them there.

They got me to, cant beleive with the amount of negative issues about CIC*CE that they have not been shut down.  I used free credit reoprt. com and I did see the line about the $15 per month credit monitoring charge. The web site will not let you get your report if you do not click yes to that button.  After I ran my report I called free credit report.com and canceled my triple advantage protection plan the same day I ran the report.  But I still got Hit.
