Lost my job, missed my COBRA deadline and searching for Low-cost Health Insurance...got a message that I was "approved" in spite of pre-existing conditons...had just been told by Cigna that they could not cover pre-existing conditions....I had been diagnosed with Cancer in 2011..."Jason" sounded legit Until I was told they needed $314 plus a $99 "application fee" upfront on my credit card right now....and I could see the policy AFTER I paid them...

Contact your state Attorney General or insurance commissioner to see if they are even licensed to operate in your state, If they are scamming, it's better for others if they are shut down.
some have been around a while, while BBB just opened files on others.
Not clear which, if any, you are dealing with.

You might see if you are eligible for group coverage through a professional or trade group, or find an employer with group coverage if you can, or if you are married, see if you can get similar group coverage through your spouse. (You've probably already considered this.)
1, your insurance is cancel, we will refund your money in 21 days and it will be a total refund
2. (latoya)your insurance is cancel it will take up to 21 business days to review your cancellation and see if we return your money.it will be a total refund
3. Your insurance is cancel they give you the information already so stop calling and it will be partial
4. (Kelly supervisor) Your insurance is cancel, it will take up to 21 days to refund your money and if we do not have any claims we will give you your money back less the amount of the consultation.
So which one should I believe???????
First, we must SHOW you the plans as we present them to ensure you understand how they work and what is really in them. I do this face-to-face with clients fairly local and via online and telephone with others beyond feasible face-to-face meetings. We DO NOT sell by telephone alone. Clients MUST get visual instruction on the plan WITH us and that important piece of presentation is verified by our clients when the home office in Fort Worth calls to verify that and other information before the application goes into underwriting.
Second, there are many shady folks out there using our name to scam people into low rate discount plans that do nothing for them. More often than not, these people don't have licenses. ALWAYS ask for the agents license number. They should freely give it. I'll tell you mine are TX #: 1603193, OK#: 100131667. The other five I'm happy to give if anyone asks. I am completely transparent. YOUR agent should be the same. If not, they are hiding something. Stay away from them.
@ Robin - Third, We DO NOT require ANY money up front. We also DO NOT have a $99 app fee. Your first premium and a $40 initiation fee (medically qualifying) or $100 (guaranteed issue) are taken WITH your first month's premium AFTER the plan is approved and goes into force, unless using a credit card. Even then if you chose not to accept the plan before going into force the charge is reversed. However, if an agent truly focuses on their client's best interests, not their own, clients accept their plans and it's a non-issue. Still, it's nice for clients to know that we DO NOT require immediate payment to submit an application and there is no "app fee" that you automatically lose the second your app is submitted.
Fourth, educate yourself. Understand what happens on Jan. 14 what that may do to your rates. Ask your agent about rate increases, OR BETTER YET, protection against them. US Health Group, the company in question here that I AM AN AGENT FOR is the only company you will find that offers a 3-year rate guarantee! That means not only do my clients know I have their best interest in focus, but. they are only getting one rate increase in a 6-year period. You won't find that anywhere else. MORE IMPORTANTLY, you won't find that from a less than reputable company. We have well over 15 million clients, paid over $1 billion in claims and do it in an average of 10 days or less. Does that sound like an insurance company in the practice of scamming people? Unfortunately, you have scam artists pretending to be something they are not in every industry, from every walk of life.
Last, deal with agents you can actually get a hold of when you have questions, not necessarily 9-5, either. My clients have my cell phone number. They can contact me weekdays and weekends, morning, noon and night. I do my best to answer (if I'm awake and not somewhere I just can't answer). Your agent should do the same. As Jeanne Anne stated, you can call US Health Group directly at 800-387-9027, call me at 903-229-6900 or email me at kevinr4ins@gmail.com. I'll do my best to help you.
I hope my .02 helps! Have a great day!
I was told by a US Health agent that the rate never increases. It that true, you last post seems to contradict that. Also he did say there was a 99 dollar enrollment fee, but he might be able to waive it. And is this policy available for Ca. Residents?
Thank you
I'm so sorry I missed your reply.
If you are in California, the "US Health" agent IS NOT from our company. We do not sell plans in California. I irritates me to no end to see people still misrepresenting themselves as part of our legitimate health insurance company based in Texas, US Health Group. From what I've found there is NO plan that guarantees against rate increases. Also, from what I've been able to find, we are the ONLY company willing to guarantee you won't have a rate increase for 3 years at a time; that's one rate increase in a 6-year period!
For our guaranteed issue plans there is a $100 fee with your first premium. With all of our medically qualifying plans, the fee is $40 added to your first premium then your rate would stay the same for the next 35 months. That fee and your first premium ONLY come out AFTER your plan is approved and goes into force. Throughout the application/review process you can cancel and no fee or premium is paid.
If I can ever answer any questions, even though you are in California, let me know. I'll be happy to assist you. More than anything I don't want to see people get taken for a ride. My phone number is 903-229-6900 and my email is kevinr4ins@gmail.com. Incidentally, I do reside in Texas and am licensed in TX, OK, KS, MO, MS, AL and MT.
Kindest regards,

The "Fixed Indemnity Medical Insurance resembled a "Scheduled Benefits Plan". Refer to this link about them:
http://ezinearticles.com/?Health-Insurance-in-Illinois---Scheduled-Benefit-Plans-Are-Risky-Compared-to-Major-Medicals&id=3144962.
It sounds like you were presented our Secure Value or Secure Value Plus Fixed Indemnity Plan. It really is a great plan for a scheduled benefits plan. MedGuard is also great. I DO have MedGuard for my wife and myself.
You're right, a fixed indemnity plan should not be marketed as a major medical. I can also tell you that it is NOT made to look like or work like a major medical plan.
I do have a great plan for my son and me. I have our Secure Advantage Plan; perhaps you weren't shown Secure Advantage. I have a very reasonable 3k deductible and 80/20 coinsurance. I also have term life built in and MedGuard Critical Illness Lump Sum Benefits for my wife and I. AND, my plan's rate is GUARANTEED not to increase for 3 years!
My plan is incredibly comprehensive. As a matter of interest, my sickness and accident are NOT a scheduled benefits plan and my deductible for an accident is only $750. That is also my total out of pocket for covered expenses up to the lifetime max of my plan which is "unlimited". I DO NOT have a calendar year maximum for sickness or accident. My doctor visits are based on a schedule of benefits but more than I need and I don't have a deductible for doctor visits or prescriptions. Our plans are PPO network plans (Cigna or PHCS).
Having said that, many are not financially prepared to shoulder premiums with a comprehensive, more traditional plan like the one I have for my son and me, or they cannot medically qualify. In these cases, a fixed indemnity plan is a fantastic, low-cost alternative. It's true that those plans are less expensive than my plan or another's major medical; however, they do still offer great protection and, frankly, you're not paying those much higher premiums. Last, many like the idea of NOT having a deductible on a fixed indemnity plan.
Like I told Karen, Greg, you are always welcome to contact me if you have questions. I am a state licensed agent here in Texas as well as OK, MO, MS, KS, AL and MT. My email is kevinr4ins@gmail.com and my number is 903-229-6900.
What I am certain of is that US Health Group is a legitimate insurance company and I am as ethical and integrity driven as people come. US Health Group is definitely NOT a scam.
