My husband got a call a month ago about an old electric bill. He didn't ask very many quetions about it but knew he did live in the house at the time they were collecting debt for. We arranged a payment of 33.00 for the next 8 months. He asked to be sent a letter verifying the payment information. We never recevied anything after calling and asking twice. Now it is September and another payment debited today. I called and told them the same thing. I was first told that they would email me a payment schedule. I never got the email so I called back two hours later and was told that first I had to email them requesting the information before they can release any information. I am planning on placing a stop payment next week if I do not receive any information from them. I have worked with a debt collector once before and got mail very quickly from them and every month after a payment was made. I'm wondering if the whole "collection" is nothing but a scam. The company seems legitamite but also has a lot of complaints. Suggestions on what can and should do?

I am dealing with them now.  I settled an account in July of 2011.  They sent me no documentation.  This past November 2012 got a call from them for a strange amount on the same account.  When I called they gave me the same sales pitch they have before.

Any suggestions on my next step?  I refuse to pay this debt again.

I would send them a cease and desist letter with a copy of the check, or money order used to pay on the account. don't pay them and if they take you to court make them prove you allegedly owe them something most times they wont be able to do this and the judge will throw out the case because they have nothing on you.

Nothing will stop them, i read a lady was awarded millions by a jury over a supposed debt by recovery portfolio. Maybe we should all sue the sh@t out of them. They been after me for almost 9 yrs now beat them in court once already too. I think if you owe it should be to the original creditor, but if they cast offthe debt thats it its over. We need to get this country back to we the people and away from bankers and lawyers, and i am republican and i think what they do and call it legal is b s .
