A message was left on my voicemail by someone named Susan, that I had been accepted and approved for health insurance as of midnight tonight which was Aug 15th.  Not realizing that this was not the company that I had applied to, I called Susan back and a person answered and said Susan would call me right back, she did not ask for my phone number. So, I waited for about 30 minutes and called back.  I asked to speak to Susan and was told (the same voice from the first call) that she was on another line and she asked how could she help me.  I told her that I was calling because Susan had left a message that I have been accepted and approved for health insurance as of midnight on Aug. 15.  The person on the other end became very rude, and said only my quote had been accepted.  I said what do you mean, only my quote had been accepted, she became very rude and said, "Don't you know what a quote it?  I said Susan stated that my application had been approved.  She said hold on so that I can get someone to explain to you what a quote is.  She put me on hold for a few minutes and came back with some rude statement and stated Susan was busy since you do not know what a quote is. After hang up I went back and listened to the message that was left on my voice mail.  Here is exactly how it was spoken by Susan: " Your application have been accepted and approved as of midnight today (Aug 15).  I was out of town and called Susan back today which is Aug. 18 to confirmed that I had coverage and to ask a few questions about the new policy.

Has all the characteristics of a scam and a con.

Generic sounding name.  Difficult to trace.
Attempting to feign familiarity so they can appear to be someone you may already be doing business with.
Creating the impression that you must make an immediate decision or you will somehow lose something.
Vague promises that they can later deny making.
Attempt to control the direction of the conversation.
Rudeness when you question them in any way.
Somehow you are stupid for not knowing what they are calling about and just agreeing to it, immediately sending them money.

I replied that I was an attoney and would like to take a look at it.  Next thing I heard was dial tone.

This is something I just sent to my client. I am

        www.healthandliferates.com

        Hey Sean,

Was working on your HSA rates and saw this was in my old mail. Didn't remember getting it.

Wow, I didn't know any of the Forth Worth Insurance Companies still existed. There use to be a lot of them based on different "associations". NASE (National Association for the Self Employed) was the very first. Latter you had National Heath, Liberty National, United Benefit Life, MEGA Life,  IAAI (Insurance of America Agency Inc) and at least 5 or 10 others.

Basically they are a pyramid market in the insurance industry. They hire a lot of agents and sell a beefed up hospitalization plan. Not major medical.  It is most likely not major medical but a scheduled hospitalization plan.

Both of the companies Freedom Life and National Foundation are B- AM Best Rated. None of the companies I work with are under an A rating and all of them are major medical. Which means they cover anything medically necessary not just a schedule of coverage's like hospitalization plans do.

I know these companies well. I first worked with United Benefit Life as a Regional VP and later I worked for IAAI (mentioned above) as a Regional VP over the South East from 1996 to 2002. I had 150 agents and did a little over 5 Million in annual business with them. Cant even tell you how many times I have been to Fort Worth and stayed in the "Bonnie and Clyde room" at the hotel in the stockyards.

Be careful anytime you hear of a carrier that is not a major insurer. Especially when it comes to health insurance. Most companies that are domiciled in Texas are there because of their lenient laws.

One last thing, unlike me who has 22 yrs in the industry, a broker, and sells everything except B rated companies. Their agents typically have been in the industry less than a year and are captive. That means they only sell that product. They will never offer you anything else.

I will get you over those rate by tomorrow. I am just running a little behind with school starting next week and Signe trying to get every last activity in.

Thanks for sending this to me. I am sorry if I went too deeply into it, but it brought back some old memories, both good and bad. LOL

I sell Limited Medical and Indemnity policies or as referred to earlier "Hospitalization Plans" you are 100% correct they are not Major Medical, and need to be explained in depth to the client so their is a clear understanding of how the policy works... I am NOT captive, I own a brokerage, we only deal in these types of policies because of the large market.... Their are many liers in this industry, however to make a broad statement that you only work with A rated AM Best carriers, and Major Medical insurers... What about "Susan Smith" with Diabetes, High Blood Pressure and Clinical Depression, who only makes 2000 a month on unemployment??  She would not be approved for Major Medical, nor could she afford it if she did.... My lowest carrier is AM Best Rated B++ "Good" also the outlook of the company is "Stable and Affirmed", these polices exist for THIS EXACT REASON.... I am not associated with any of these scumbag agents (If their even licensed) that are talked about in earlier posts, I am an independent agent, and just wanted to say its very easy for YOU to say you only deal with these top end companies, and you are correct, you should (if you can get approved and afford it), but these policies also have their place in the market as more or less a temporary policy, that will give decent coverage, and still be affordable... We do agree that any prospective clients verify the agent is licensed in the state, and that the DOI (Department of Insurance) recognizes the carrier and agent.  If you can get approved for Major Medical and afford it, or have it offered through your work TAKE IT! However not everyone has that luxury especially with this economy, but it needs to be done by an experienced agent that can explain the policy correctly and point out the high AND low points... Just my 2 cents...

The above posts, from 2008, referred to "US Health Plans" and "US Health Care".
The posts do NOT refer to "US Health Advisors", whoever they are.

Consumers have every reason to be suspicious of unknown callers trying to weazel into their bank accounts, since there are too many swindlers out there trying to do just that.

The nature of the reported calls was suspicious on their face, including reports of deceptive, abusive, and denigrating telemarketing.  Such patterns of calls are common with fraudulent telemarketing, not just for fake "insurance", although abusive or denigrating sales practices are particularly common in fraud targetted at the elderly.

Such schemes often show up operating under numerous names that may sound similar to possibly legitimate companies.  That should be no surprise, as consumers are reporting callers using "sales scripts" acting like they already have an existing business relationship.  The use of generic names is consistent with the use of deceptive "sales scripts" fishing for an opportunity to impersonate another company.

For an example of fraudulent "insurance" schemes:
        http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2012/06/healthcareone.shtm
        http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/1023071/index.shtm
        "...
Federal Trade Commission, Plaintiff, v. Health Care One LLC, also doing business as "HealthcareOne," "Americans4Healthcare," "Citizens4Healthcare," "EasyLifeHealthcare," "Elite Healthcare," "Global Healthcare," and "Republic Healthcare"; Americans4Healthcare Inc.; Michael Jay Ellman; Elite Business Solutions, Inc., also doing business as "EasyLife Healthcare," "Elite Healthcare" and "Republic Healthcare"; Robert Daniel Freeman, also known as Dan Freeman; Mile High Enterprise Inc.; and Bryan Matthew Loving, Defendants

(United States District Court for the Central District of California)
        Case No. SACV10-01161-JVS-RNBx
        File No. 102 3071
        ..."

With fraud, names mean nothing.  They change them as often as their underwear, probably more often.

You want to see what they are up to?
Search on the phone number, on 800notes.com

You will find all their "sales" variations, under whatever names they are using today, including patterns of deception or coercion they might not have tried on you.

Just as a key market for insurance is older people, a key market for fraudulent "insurance" schemes is the same.  They have some money, many are too trusting, or even fearful of "medical expenses", and they are both easier to con, and easier to deny conning.

Perhaps you should be careful who you vouch for.

They sound like a scam to me.  This lady continually harasses me at my office even though I asked to be removed from the calling list.  Very, very rude.  Always hangs up on me.  Sick of it.  I know the 1800 711-5145 number because I dialed * 69.  I may try to get the police involved.

That's exactly what I am dealing with for that #. I get 1-3 calls a week from them asking for "just one question" about my company's healthcare. I don't answer anymore but ask to be removed as I get several calls every week. I usually don't get that entire sentence out before I get hung up on now. I wish there was some way to contact them and demand they stop calling and harassing my office.

Note that they have nothing to lose by being rude.  They are not going to convince you to turn over your account information by acting nice, since they are a con, and not legitimate anyway.

They are looking for people they can deceive and panic into divulging account information, and as long as some percentage of calls pay off, they just keep calling.

    'US Health Benefits Group'

That is how they got my number.  I was trying to get health insurance quotes through the above stated name/website.

Spoke with a Kim Tucker who supposedly handles "benefits packages."  Stated a $124.00 enrollment that would start only in five days from the day she spoke to me.  That's suspicious on it's own.

Then there was the $135.00 application fee.  She stated that the plan would be Consumer Assistance provided through 'Services Association."  Look it up, this is NOT a health plan at all.  Medivac, Aetna, etc... she brought up legit plans that would be accepted, and wanted me to enroll immediately.

Luckily being suspicious enough, I thought to either a) hang up on her or b) see what she would say if I gave her a reasonable answer an ordinarily credible person would understand.  She hung up after saying "thank you for taking up my time" once I explained I'm not done researching available plans.  Lol, well, I thought to myself cry me a river, I'm shopping for health insurance (sad state of healthcare as it is).

They also ask if there is something you're not satisfied with and that they've already done the research through 19 different national databases.  To argue you out of your money I suppose, I didn't let the call get that far.

My wife was recently scammed out of the $135 "nonrefundable" application fee by this company (AMA aka Beech Tree aka Synergy aka US Health Plans). I would like to explore a class action lawsuit against this bogus company. Perhaps some punitive damages would be a firm slap on the wrist for this unethical behavior. If you have also had similar experiences, or better yet -- were unable to recover an application or similar fee -- please contact me. You have nothing to lose, other than the few minutes it would take to submit an affidavit (a sworn statement containing your story). My e-mail is dowaters at gmail.

I would also like to file a class action law suit against them... I was told the original plan I had purchased covered surgery... Asked specifically did they cover pre-existence condition ... Yes was the answer... Told to pay over 200 dollars which included the enrollment fee... Paid it with my card... Wife went to doctor she got to have a hysterectomy... They called the insurance they said that it don't cover any surgery.... I called them and told them that I was told that it did... I ended up paying another 100+ dollars to upgrade they said that she would be covered.... Even though she has a pre condition as long as I get a certificate of creditability meaning I had prior insurance before them .... Did that ... Yet doctor called them and they will still not cover it at all saying that too much time has elapsed.... After I was told all this and they still would not honor what they told me on the phone... They waited until they took all of the money they could and still denied to cover my wife... My PHN 9204123712 yes this is a breach of contract .... Fraud.... Wire fraud .... And embezzlement..... Yes I will gladly fill out an affidavit....

Yep, same experience, luckily did not commit on phone and did some internet searches before I called back.  All details too good to be true. Woman from Health Benefits Group (# 646 833 1291) said plan was administered through DirectMed(?) and processed by Consumer Assistance Service Org. (or something very similar).  She also mentioned the Beech Street doctor network.  Sounds like this plan/co. should definitely be avoided.  Glad I found this board and other similar ones.

You can't sue someone for not refunding a "non refundable enrollment fee.

"You can't sue someone for not refunding a "non refundable enrollment fee."

Of course you can.  You can sue for anything you want.  You may not win but you can sue.  Anyways, if the deposit was taken under misrepresentation, or involved any type of fraud, then it is probably actionable.

This outfit harassed my minor child by calling her cell phone several times a day.  I have no idea where they got her number but several other companies got her number too and harassed her the same way.  My kid came to me scared and concerned.  They claimed she filled out an online application for health insurance which is impossible and a load of BS.  Another company told me that they bought her number from NetQuote.  I have never heard of NetQuote.  I guarantee my child has not heard of them either.  I think someone may have asked for a quote and entered a random phone number to avoid being called and that number happened to be my kid's number.  I have spent two evenings calling seven different health care scam numbers to demand they take my kid's number out of their system and stop harassing her.

I am an agent and I feel your frustration.  We often buy leads from reputable companies, including netquote, and unless you are in the insurance business you would probably not have heard of them. from folks that went on line and asked for information. Sometimes folks give wrong numbers, false names, etc.  You can get calls from several agents since they are internet baesd and go to several sources. Believe me we are as frustrated about bogus names as well.  It costs us time, money etc.We as agents have to pay for the leads.  Unfortunate for you that someone used your daughters name  Not a scam on the insurance agent's part.
