Avoid this company no matter how cheap the price

Hello,
For the protection of other consumers I would like to comment about PENYAK ROOFING in SOUTH PLAINFIELD NEW JERSEY. This contractor did our roof and it was a nightmare. At first I was very pleased at the very low price I was quoted....almost half the price of other contractors. but I learned there was a reason for this.
After the job was completed the roof leaked very badly and we had very bad damage done to the house interior. I called them and they did NOT come back . The cheap price meant nothing because I had to pay another contractor twice the amount to get the job fixed.
I also learned from the building inspector that the roofing was not installed correctly and he had never seen a roof done in such an amateurish way. The men that did the roof were "picked up" that day from a street corner in Plainfield. JOE PENYAK picks up these unskilled immigrants on a daily basis because they are unskilled and work for very low wages.
BUYER BEWARE. Avoid this company no matter how cheap the price.

However, I have been waiting a month for a call back. In the meantime, Palermo called back within 20 minutes of leaving a message.

My name is Joseph Penyak, I am the owner of Penyak Roofing. I am writing to question the credibility of this website. It seems as if people can post anything about anyone on this site, true or false, regardless of whether it has to do with Penyak Roofing. If anyone would like to research my company, they should contact the Better Business Bureau, Consumer Affairs, or your local building department.
You also do not see me advertising my company on a complaints website that is bashing an opposing roofing company as another contractor did within this site about me.
We have been in business since 1960 and my reputation speaks for itself.
If you would like to contact me personally, please call the office at (908)753-4222, Monday through Friday 8am-4pm.
Thank You,
Joe Penyak
I have to say, I was extremely surprised to see the negative comments. As I mentioned above, I had my roof done in 2006, we're currently in 2010. In the past 4 years, we've seen very serious weather, high winds ect. I have not had any leaks, I've not lost any shingles and my roof looks just as new as it was four years ago. The severe weather took down trees on my property but I didn't lose a shingle. I've had no problems at all. As far as his employees. Yes, some of them did not speak English but they were all very respectful and courteous. My dealings with Joe were limited but when I initially inquired and asked for an estimate, he came out within a timely manner, was very professional and responded to my inquires. I would also like to add, I have not heard any complaints from any of the people I referred. In Fact, they too have referred him because of his quality of work.
Yes, he has people who work for him who have an "accent", yet... go into any restuarant, hotel, business in this country and someone will have an accent.... from somewhere.. German, Spanish, English, Chinese, .. you name it. If you need a roof.. call Penyak Roofing....
They where to clean and re-attach the gutters they destroyed them removing the roof I even told the foreman showing him the contract. They then told me they the gutters are bad I told the foreman the gutters where in great shape and I stated the contract was to remove and re-nail and clean out trash.
They then at the end tried to straighten them out and re-nail them up glued the seam at one end they look like crap. I have video and pix of this mess I hope my roof does not leak it is going to rain Sunday.
The lawn still has stuff all over even my neighbors lawns I have found nails.
As for the workers I agree they seam to be day labors only one person speaks English have seen going behind my garage and peeing I called Penyak and was told the lady in the office of this and the gutters issue she was not happy with what was going on. You think the owners would jump on this and ride out to see what was going on but no I was told Monday he will get back to me and this will cost me $6,400.00.
We paid for the roof on the house and the garage to be done and they didn't even touch the garage (except to pee on it!)!! They left a hole in our roof and our whole back side of our garage reeks of piss.
Honestly, I understand some of you have had good experiences with them, and for that you are truly lucky. I am sure you got the better day laborers who were picked up on the day they did your roof, but for the rest of us, we got CHEATED and for those of your reading this... I urge you to spend your money on a different company. This one may appear cheap, but you honestly get what you pay for when you buy things cheap. Plus you'll spend double trying to fix it yourself.
Oh yea... and they left a hole in my roof and it supposed to raining tomorrow. Wonderful...
If you have any work done make sure you have the permit card from the contractor on site that day do not pay any bills till the inspector gives you the final inspection by law you have the right not to pay till the job is completed it states on the back of the permit.
Make sure you call the Township for the inspection set the date and be there to point out issues found take pix before the job doring and after it helps. Run a garden hose spray the roof as if its a rainy day check gutters and inside if you can to find leaks take photos or videos.
I just had my Township inspection as we walk through the attic the inspector seen the issues that I pointed out in the photos and pointed them to Kevin from Penyak. The inspector told him to fix this 4" gap at the dormer peeks and any broken planks that where damaged from the inside.
Then I pointed out the Crown molding issue seeing what the photos do not really show the inspector told Penyak that this must be fixed and to place a metal flashing up to seal all around the house and fix the gutter issues.
After that Penyak will let the inspector know this is fixed and then the Township will issue the final approval then we can pay the bill. Know your rights and if you are not handy to know what to look for in checking the internet can help.
If more people posted positive comments instead of negative you would see how good this company is.
Joe is honest and trustworthy which is something that is hard to find these days.
So he has men with accents working for him.. Who doesn't???
It should only matter how they work not what they look like.
With that being said.. we highly recommend Penyak Roofing.
Thanks Joe,
Sam Ghanim
