Hasn't BP done eough damage already?  They spent a few bucks to give the appearance that they cleaned up their most recent global catastrophy.

But they can's seem to scrape enough money together to stop tis scam that is being perpetrated in their name. How much can it cost to chase down a few (if not one) I P Address?

BP isn't any more behind it than Microsoft, Google, Yahoo, Coca Cola, or whatever name these scammers use next time.  There is no practical way for any of them to stop it, any more than you could stop it if they started using your name in their fake emails.

These scams usually use well known names, to steal their credibility.
They are probably sitting in some Nigerian internet cafe, cooking up fake emails every day, and trading instant messages on what's working with the "mugus", just like fishermen.  The world is connected, so fraud can come from anywhere, and use any name.

The rest of the world will just have to get smarter, or the telecoms and ISPs will have to more effectively block spam.

We can't even stop trademark and DVD piracy in China.
No chance anyone will be able to stop email and SMS fraud.
      Just don't fall for it.

If you were to examine the amount of money spent by the feds on the numerous programs that protect "the interests of the USA' I sure you'll find that it would cost far less to protect  Americans than America.
How about a global SPAM filter, not a far reach if you're looking for bang for the buck.

To all comments from mm (May 20) on: No, it isn't true. It's a scam. There isn't any money (unless you send them your contact information, in which case they will take your money from you). Don't respond to them.
