Thanks for taking the time to contact us about this email. It hasn’t been sent by Lloyds TSB or any other legitimate organisation. The email is a form of advance fee fraud which originated in Nigeria. It’s also known as a 419 scam.
The scam works by trying to convince you to send money to the fraudsters. To get you to do this, they’ll often claim that a large sum of money will be given to you once you send it. Typically, they’ll promise you some money from a lottery win, a fake inheritance or a dormant bank account. You should never do this, as you won’t ever receive the larger sum of money they promise you.
Fraudsters use this type of scam because it’s cheap to do and very difficult to stop. If you receive any emails like this in future, please ignore them. If you think that you – or someone you know - is being targeted by fraudsters then please contact the SCD6 Economic and Specialist Crime OCU at fraud.alert@met.police.uk, or your local law enforcement agency if you do not reside in the United Kingdom.
