I signed up for Direct TV in August 2005, with a one year contract. I'm a grad student, so I knew I would be graduating in June 2007. After a year of interrupted service, and a summer during which my service was disconnected (even though I was paying for it in absentia), I called Direct TV in October of 2006 because my service was interrupted for a few days. As an apology, the customer service rep offered me 6 months of $10 off/month. I agreed, a little happier. When it came time to cancel, I received no less than 3 incorrect bills noting that I owed additional money as well as an early cancellation charge. To my surprise, apparently, the rep signed me up for another year's contract, even though she never mentioned it, and I certainly never would have renewed it since I knew I was moving 8 months later. Because of this, I have spent hours arguing on the phone with the customer service reps, who either cannot or will not help me. The end result is that I will have to pay the early cancellation charge, even though I never agreed to a new contract. There is no proof on either side because they claim it was a "verbal agreement". Truly the worst service experience ever. I will never use Direct TV, and in fact, I plan to be an anti-Direct TV evangelist to spread word for people never to use it.

I HATE DIRECTV!!!!!!!!!!! Seems to be the thread here!  I cancelled our service and they auto paid my balance with a credit card on my profile (NO I DO NOT HAVE AUTO DRAFT) without notifying me FIRST!  They just sucked it all up.  Then a month later (YEAH A MONTH AFTER IT WAS CANCELLED) they charged me 5.65 for what they claim was a PPV I bought in 2010!! WTF...so I yelled at the CSR who eventually gave me a 5.65 credit to my account but never credited my CC! It is sitting in my account showing CC credit but my CC has never been credited.  What is wrong with this company!???  Everytime I call they read from a script, don't know how to address me as a customer, and don't care.  I have to now first say "GIVE ME RETENTION" to get my resolution.  It's completely insane! I will NEVER EVER use them again!!!  They like to use whatever you have on file for payment (CC, checking acct info) to make any payments they deem you owe.  You don't find out til after the fact.  It's completely and utterly insane!  It's like they don't trust I'm going to send in the payment (which I was going to via check!)  I HATE THEM WITH  PASSION!

Hate this company only went with them because they offered the sports package to watch out of state games and I love the Packers but live in an area where I do not get coverage of their games. Firstly Direct TV does not offer on demand unless you pay extra for it and get specialty equipment to watch it. Secondly the majority of the channels they offer are filler crap infomercial channels nobody watches and pay per view channels which are organized on the guide list in a nonsensical order by someone with the intelligence of an ape. They split up the channels into pay separately/extra packages in such a crafty underhanded way that to get all the regular channels most folks watch you have to buy several packages which makes your bill higher. Thirdly any inclement weather will knock out your satellite and you'll continue to pay for shows you cannot watch until it comes back on or a repair man comes to fix it at an extra charge and Lastly beware the fine print when you sign up under one of their discounted new customer "Deals" you are entering into a contract with them  for a said amount of time ie a year or 2 and if for ANY reason (including customer dissatisfaction) you need to terminate your service they automatically debit your bank account on file an early termination fee around 2 to 3 hundred dollars with no mercy or compassion for your budget. They are a horrible company with no concern for customer satisfaction they get by off of forced loyalty gained by monetarily blackmailing their customers into finishing out their contracts, their employees are snarky, rude and uncaring and they give you the run around and put you on hold for eternity. I advise anyone considering going with them to reconsider. I rue the day I switched and would gladly go crawling back on my knees to Comcast. I used to think that  they where high priced too but I never had anywhere near the amount of trouble from them as I've had with Direct TV and would gladly pay a little extra for quality service and real customer appreciation.

OK,  I thought I was pretty up on bait and switch and other sales scams, but Directv sent me reeling, we switched from Dishnetwork when some salespeople came thru and showed us how we could get more channels for $20 less per month.  Great, I thought, so we sirgned up and had to use our debit card to get it all started. OK fine, they came out and installed everything, switched the equipment... life is good.  And thendoing some on-line banking I see where my first debit card transaction had cleared (I usually pay for most things in cash but ALWAYS make sure there is enough in the account to cover debit/checks) checking my account on-line a few days after the deal was done I seen where I was charged an "insufficient funds" from my bank ($22.50) I  checked all my budget and could not figure out what had bounced.  On-line banking could not tell me even the amount of what was attempted so I was at a loss. 2 days later (after another $22.50 charge because it had been re-attempted) I finally had time to stop at the bank to investigate.  As it turned out we had to give our debit card # the date of the contract to get it started, well it cleared because I had budgeted for it. Simple right?  Noooooo. they had hit my account again 3 days later and when that didn't clear (remember my previous comment about only leaving enough monies to cover outstanding debt) they tried again 3 days later (another $22.50 in bank fees).  So I call them and after getting the runaround from the peons (they kept telling me that I must have mailed them an additional check and that's what bounced even tho they couldn't provide me with a check #) To the point, even after talking to a supervisor they won't take responsibilty for triple dipping my account they even charged me $15.00 for THEIR error with the bank.

If you want to read about folks who have had their bank and credit card accounts raided without authorization check out "Pissed off Consumer" site.
If you have paid even one time with an account,  they have your account number on file.  They told me that they would take the money out of my account without my authorization.
I suggest that if you ever get into a dispute with DTV as I am you waste no time in cancelling any accounts you have given them and if you do send them any payments use a money order.  They won't like that but they are lying, bullies and we don't care what they like.
Don't pay them with a check.  They'll swipe and file that number too.
Also "ripped off" is a good site to read about the suffering DTV has caused countless people and they have a complaint form you can fill out.
We need to spread the word about DTV's disinformation and cheating people.  If you complain to one of their reps that you have been lied to about service and cost they say "You should read the contract"
The contract doesn't even come close to what the rep tells you but of course by agreeing to take the service you have agreed to the contract......they claim.
I will never get DTV again.  What a hard lesson I have learned.

I HATE DIRECTV. have only had it for 3 month.  I only changed from Dish cause they dropped AMC and I am a huge Walking Dead fan.   Called them today to and talked to a CSR that was like "oh well, sucks for you, you are stuck for 2 years"  not happy!!!

Directv seems simply criminal.  I am watching a blank screen right now.  When I called to ask what the issue could be, I was told that I didn't have the package for the channel I had been watching--for the past 11 months.  When I explained how this could not be correct (here is my package and email verification, etc), I was told that the channel is no longer housed in the package.  Essentially, "I don't know why you have it."  When I asked how many months I had left on my contract, I was told 2 years.  Again, not correct.  My initial contract was a 2 year contract.  Now, I sit and watch three or so minutes of random channels and then I see the blank screen again.  Lying, misrepresenting and unknowledgeable = behavior that is suspect.  Let me simplify things: Directv looks good on the page, but go another route if you would rathe not have to always check-up on them.

    Meee!
I hate this! Isn't there supposed to be a cancel button when you delete shows? It might be my batteries in which case I would go to a complaint site about Universal Electronics. Anyways, I was sitting on my bed watching tv and going through shows. I was holding my remote not pressing anything, about to set it down, and then it clicked the "Mark All" button and I thought it didn't and my tv didn't show the Xs on all the shows just the ones I picked. Then it started to delete ALL of them! Can you believe this? I was so mad that I ripped up one of my favorite drawings my friend gave me! (That part was kind of my fault.) I started crying! The worst part is, my step dad WORKS at DirecTV! I feel like a bad person... :(

I had the misfortune of finding out that directv  has hidden sunday ticket in my bill.  I asked their customer service why my bill would fluctuate and they told me it was discounts thru Frontier would be added or expire and that was why my bill would change.  When I asked to have the sunday ticket removed they said even if I cancel directv which I will as soon as I find another provider, I still have to pay sunday ticket.  I am so flipping mad that I have been deceived.  I have been a customer for years and now I will never say another good thing about them.

After 1 year increased our bill by 35.00, called them they said it was your introductory offer credit and the time had ended, they did agree to give us an adjusted credit but then it does not go on the month you received it but on the next month so they still get 35.000 and then they add 2.16 for a sports link for your area ad the HD charge.  Very sneaky. Dish just increased you 5.00 a year and did it up front.   Do not trust Direct TV for billing, technical service good billing is crooked.

We switched over to Direct Tv after having the Xfinity X-1 service with the voice commands. We wanted to upgrade our internet service and in doing so compromised our service agreement with Comcast. The first sign that we were in for a mountain of trouble was the fact that the agent via customer service assured us that we would have similar capabilities utilizing voice commands, however once we received the remotes there was no ability to perform voice commands. We were instead subjected to archaic stone aged devices that proved Direct TV has no real goal of keeping up or surpassing their competitors. It is a huge inconvenience when searching shows to have to manually type in letter by letter the particular show or channel we would like to view. The On-demand options continuously glitch and freeze when watching playbacks, they often skip and or jump back and forth into and out of commercials as well as skip and glitch during programs. As soon as our contract is up we will be returning back to Comcast and Xfinity even if it means losing our upgraded internet service. Direct Tv needs to get with the program and perform a complete overhaul and update their entire system, new remotes would be a huge plus.
