I'm so tired of this! I'm disabled for the last 6 months, my Husband & I have been getting CONSTANT calls like this: Who/whatever it is, there's NOBODY on the line no matter WHAT. We're on the DNC list + have an Unlisted #. SO WHERE DO THESE WASTES OF TIME GET OUR INFO FROM? I've emailed 800notes.com about these daily/nightly calls from 888-424-4836/223-051-5100.
223-051-6400 (that come up UNKNOWN NAME). Donor Services at 310-444-2679 & the infamous 1-877-882-9396 ("Secure Loan"). So what good is being on the DNC list if these fools still manage to butt in!? It gives mr agita! NO MORE!

    Usually outbound calls from calling centers are set up on an automatic dialer and it takes some time after you pick up the phone for the rep to be connected to the call; that may explain why noone is ever on the line.

    The DNC list does allow exceptions for some telemarketers; like fundraising purposes or companies you've done business w/ in the past.

    You need to call them and provide them with your name and phone number and ask them to remove your name from their calling list. It usually takes up to 7 business days to have your number removed.

    If you already have an unlisted number, you also have the option of adding a 'unknown/private number block' and that would prevent some of those calls.

    If you are on the Do Not Call list, or are getting annoying calls on your cell phone, most harassing autodialed calls you receive will be illegal by definition.

    Telemarketers are required to provide caller id information including their name and a phone number you can call to notify them to stop.  If you are on the Do Not Call list, they shouldn't even be calling.  Their failure to purchase the list for the area codes they are calling, and use it to scrub their dialer lists, is itself a violation.  (That is what FTC usually nails them for, since it is easy to show they made a bunch of calls to various area codes from their own phone records, and even easier to show they never purchased a Do Not Call list for those area codes.  Add a few consumer complaints, and they are busted, although usually they have made MILLIONS of calls before that happens.)

    Other autodialed calls allowed despite the Do Not Call list, such as survey companies or charities, are also required to provide caller id info, and put you on their internal Do Not Call list on request.

    All unrequested autodialed telemarketing calls to cell phones are illegal under the TSR (Telemarketing Sales Rule), regardless of whether that number is on the Do Not Call list.

    So if you have been on the Do Not Call list for over 30 days, and get a telemarketing call, it is illegal.  If it provides no way to identify the caller and stop the calls, it is illegal.  If they keep dialing multiple times, and just hang up, or no-one is there within a few seconds, it is illegal (see FCC autodialer rules).

    Of course, odds are high that ANY call you receive from an unknown telemarketer probably involves aspects of misrepresentation, fraud, or other criminal activity.

    The phone is the preferred tool of liars and cheats.

      about 15 202 numers from Washington, D.C with no one on the line - they call from 8 AM - 11:00 P.M.

    I keep getting this unkown caller ringing me everyday sometimes 3 or 4 times. It is totally blank on the line and i have not applied myself to be on any lists or anything. Why do they have my number?! Help me please! Thanks

    My husband and I are really fed up with the unknown numbers and charities calling for money.  When you work nites, you want to be able to sleep during the day.  We are not bothered by anyone who knows are sleeping schedule.  If you miss their call, they will keep calling all through the day.  We just want to be left, alone.  There should be some kind of list to be on, not to get these calls.  Our goverment or phone companies should be able to give us this.  We pay plenty for what they provide us with, between the cost of the phone and the taxes we pay on our phone bills, I think we are entitled to not have the unwanted calls.

    AT+T gave me a number on my cell phone...I am repeatedly called daily from all over the country with people selling things. I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST for over 30 days but it does not work.  I think AT+T SUCKS BIG CHUNKS for not doing anything.
    When iphone goes to Verizon....GOOD BYE AT+T for such poor service.

    I have the same complaint as everyone above. I am on the do not call list for every day, 3 or 4 times daily, I receive calls from an unknown caller. If you pick up there is no one on the line. Also I am receiving calls from 918 442 0710 on my cell phone (which has no option for blocking) once or twice daily. Is someone trying to get us all to get rid of our telephones?

    watch out for this number:(208)-758-)0230. This person claims to be from IC System, a collection agency, but this person is a liar who wants your personal information over the phone. This is the same person who calls my house on several occasions and when I say hello, the person on the other end says nothing.I have warned this person to stop calling my house, and I evem filed a report. Please be careful if you receive this phone call, don't answer the phone and file a report.

    I am constantly getting "UNKNOWN" calls and there is someone there but doesn't say anything then hangs up. Who do I call at ATT to trace this call and find out who it is. I know they know me because they call me then call my office phone and I get the exact same thing. I'm getting 5 - 6 of these a day everyday and I AM FED UP. Stalker? I don't know but I want to know who is doing this!

      The phone rings every half hour, it started Tuesday at around noon and has gone on for the past 18 - 24 hours. Every half hour it rings and my 86 year old mother is getting very frustrated with it. It goes on even thru the night, to the point she takes the phone off the hook. A lot of good this does for her emergency monitor she has. If the phone is off the hook then the monitor doesn't work. I have tried to block the calls and AT&T has tried to block the calls, but no success has been achieved. They said it is happening nationwide!!! Some of their customers are getting calls more frequently then every half hour...
      This number is on the DNC list too. Another frustrating part is AT&T doesn't see these calls coming in on her line when they check the call log on their computer. What the heck!!  You answer this call and it is just silence on the other end for about 45-50 seconds then it goes to a busy signal. And AT&T doesn't see any activity like this on their computer. GO FIGURE?!?!

    Same here. Caller ID says "Unknown Caller". If I don't say anything, they just hang up after a few seconds. Immediately if I say hello.

    What can be done about this?

    I was getting calls from unknown caller and unknown number for days.  Sometimes they called 2x a day.  Never answered, machine picked up but they never left a message.  One day after them being so annyoing, I picked the phone up and said hello, they said my name and I asked who they are and they said they are from Philadelphia's Fire Department, I replied "Do not call here again because I am on the do not call list" they just hung up.  If they were really from the Philadelphia Fire Dept. why would they be blocking their number and name.?

    Call from  (459) 121-8344.... PROBABLE PHISHING CALL: Answered and a woman said she was calling from some financial institution about an online survey I took. Told her I don't do surveys nor suffer spamming morons, then hung up and blocked future calls from this number....... You can always block such calls.  You can port your number to Google Voice and use their blocking tools OR you can buy hardware like a DIGITONE call blocker use it to control your incoming calls.  Both will return you the blessed silence you crave.... :-)
