Unwanted call from GC Services

"GC Services" has called me and asked to go to my neighbor house and ask them to call this company. I asked who they are, and they refused to tell. Just said that they are trying to contact my neighbors regarding a personal matter. I didn't feel comfortable doing what they asked me, so I hung up.

I just found out that this company is a collection agency. Is it a common practice to call neighbors and ask them for this kind of favors? Or was it a scam call?

When a collection agency can't make contact with a person, they run a phone/and or address records search and find people who live near them. It's intrusive, but they hope the person will be embarassed by neighbors "knowing their business". They also want to get as many collections settled so they get paid. It was the worst job ever-I lasted a week until we all determined I am not agressive (mean?) enough with total strangers. I thought it was shady to call neighbors too!

Sorry it was such a bad experience for you. Collection is not for everyone. But I don't know what agency you were at but I've been doing for 6 years and been very successful. You don't have to be "mean" to collect. You just have to know how to talk to people.

They do not do that anymore. not all of the GC services do it either, and they are only allowed to ask the neighbors about that info is if you put them as a reference and yet they still do not state what they are for because it is not legal for them to mention someone elses private info away. they could get sued for it..that is why they did not tell you why they are calling..your neighbor must have had you as a reference. they were not doing anything wrong or illegal..im sure of it. i am currently employed there,

It is not only shady, it is illegal under FDCPA for a debt collector to disclose a consumer's debts to third parties.  They can only call third parties to obtain contact information, and if they already have contact information, then they have no legitimate reason to call any neighbor or other third party.

Its pretty sad that you have to lie to a collection agency. Do you think that things in life are free, and you dont have to pay for anything? Grow up and pay your bills. DeadBeat Debters are the worst people in the world. All you people who think you are smart, in lieing to collection agencies, your not. Because we have the technology to find ya in more ways then one.

Oh zip it! I have you blowfish calling my house for a neighbor/friend of mine and telling me her personal business. The woman knew she wasn't talking to my friend. I told her who I am and she still continued to tell me my friend's personal business. Don't act like you're an innocent employee for one of those rectum roach Companies!

O ya i ben making payment to you guys and you still will not let me be. Lets go down the line of thing you guys are doing you should not be. 1 Calling a call phone. 2 Your financial disclosure asking things like. For the phone number for my place of work. My drivers license number. 3 The name of my landlord. 4 Make and model of my car. 5 The name of the place i work for. 6 the address for my place of work. 7 A copy of the federal tax return. 8 And all the same for my spouse if i had one.And all of this is with me paying. So when doss it become harassment and when doss it stop. I am thinking on getting a lawyer on this. I know the law and know you cant ask for some of this. Cant ask for number to people i know if you have my number. Should not be calling my call. And your people should not be yelling at me on the phone. And all of this with me paying you guys. Just because a person could not pay it off and you guys got calling to collect dont give you the right to treat people like dirt. And when some one starts to pay you still treat the like that.. You had a women that work for you stress me out so bad. And i was trying to set up payments and she would not take what i could give her. Then a week latter some one calls and tells me we can take what i was trying to pay.

You should probably make a few loans yourself so you can learn how to spell. What if it were you on the other end. Too, what if we ran a credit check on you to see who you owe. Now that might even be worth talking about!

I think you are right...I have worked collections myself on and off for over 15 years and have worked at some of the dirtiest of companies, including GC Services. It would be very funny if you pull up some their employees credit reports...I'll bet a lot of them are just one big 9!!! (being the worst credit rating) When you walk into the offices, these people who are talking down to people who have fallen on hard times are not exactly upstanding citizens themselves.

You want to talk about responsibility? How about a creditor giving an 18 year old kid a 4000 credit line. That's irresponsable. But that kid keeps his agreement and continues to pay his 3400 balance down every month well over the min due. Let's say he does this for 4 years solid... But one day he loses his job. Is unemployed for 10 months+... Is very actively searching for a job, but has no means at all of paying his credit card bill... Would this gentleman need to be an "adult" and grow up as well? Or would GC Services call him every single day for 2 1/2 months harrassing and threatening him? Hmmm yeah.. That guy would be such a deadbeat lazy price of [***].

Well that's your dumb [***] fault for swiping the card. You weren't complaining when they offered you money right?.... its only their fault now that you can't pay it. Losing your job is hard but doesn't mean you don't owe it anymore. Of course they are going to try and get their money back. They run a business. That's what it is, its not personal.
