I received a call the other day from a 062 area code. After researching this area code I found from other complaintents that they were offering lower interest rates. Today I received a call from an unknown caller offering lower rates and it was my personal telephone number that showed up on the caller ID.  Recognizing the prefix as a number from my city, I answered it.  After hanging up after they started their spiel, I checked out the number and it was my own. Is this a new type of way that of getting people to answer the phone? Have their been other complaints of this nature?

    It is possible to spoof caller id, and a number of strange numbers show up, mainly with the shadiest companies, or out and out scammers.  Sending the number being called as the supposed caller is a new one I haven't heard of.

    In large call centers, the outgoing caller id is generated by the on-site equipment, not telephone company equipment.  Normally, they would set the outgoing caller id to an incoming 800 number, or possibly the number of a client company on whose behalf they are calling, but they could set it to anything, even a nonsense number.  

    There are many reports of scam telemarketers using a set of numbers that is scattered across multiple area codes.  In addition, there are many reports of consumers attempting to call back a number showing on caller id, and getting "This number is disconnected" messages.  This may be due to the number being set up as an outgoing only number.

    It would be, however, a violation of Do Not Call and telemarketing autodialer rules to provide a phony number and id with the intention of interfering with consumer reporting of Do Not Call or harassment violations.

    Get calls everyday from 062 area code. There has to be a way to stop them! How about $500.00 each time they call?

    I received a call from 870-476-6680.  The caller told my wife to tell me that "John" called.  I think it might be from Arkansas, but I am not sure.
    Does this number ring a bell with anyone?  All it says on the phone is "unknown name".  TKS

    I have received text msgs on my cell phone with my number as the sending number. Since I don not have txt messaging, this costs me money. Thanks for the info TJ. I don't know what to do about it, but at least now I know how they do it.

    I got at least 2 dozen calls from this number in a 2 week period during September '08.  My caller ID recorded every one of them along with the time, which I then sent individual complaints to the F.T.C. for every call they made.  Don't know if it was coincidence or they gave up but they stopped......finally.

    I talked to the FTC and they would not take a complaint on a business where the business was using a forged number now would they have it investigated after I told them I had tried to call the offending party and the number was reported as not a working number.

    It's called phone spoofing.  This is mostly done by collection agencies.  They pretend to be someone else and getting enough info from you to create an account.  Next thing you will get is a paper threat to pay something in full or go to court.  Some of us have been dealing with these bottom feeders for months and years.  We have programs that track and trace these numbers and then match them to the time and dates with the phone company. None have matched the actual caller.  They also spoof themselves as your neighbors. Advice: take your bill or some proof to the phone provider and have them trace.  If you owe money or have ever in the past, you can bet places like these will be faking themselves as someone else to get the data they need.       Same has happened with me also but you don't worry, please complain about this calls to police and get acknowledgment from them.

      Also block this numbers and don't ever answer this calls otherwise it will take you to emotion stress.

      I don't know what they will get by doing this stupid things.

    I have been recieve calls from this same number. Wrote a FIR..doesnt seem like it will help. His name i guess his name is Sarfarz. He uses vulgar languages and is harrassing. Do u have any other information? It will help us punish him.
