I received a call this morning at work and immediately recognized it as a scam since I have been receiving them for several months off and on.  I told him "I" was unvailable but would be glad to take a message.  He gave his name ( I had to ask twice to be able to understand),the company and phone number.  He said something about a legal matter and I said I did not need that info, but give the name and number.  Less than 5 minutes later he called a co-worker, threatened her with legal problems because her name was given.  I just happened to walk by her office and hear her.  She told him to send whatever and hung up.  The man gave his name as Gary Thompson and I checked that the phone is unpulbished from Lake Walesm, FL.  I have received other calls from numbers in San Diego, CA - 619-209-4469/416-364-1112 from Michael Smith
Kevin Parker - New York  315-663-2880
and others as far back as 9/2009

This guy Kevin Parker also tries to sam women , he comes onto you, sweet talks you for days , weeks , pretends he is in business in some foreign country...then soon as you think you know him , he comes up with a reason he needs you to send him money !! As if I was born yesterday & fell off a damn pumpkin truck !! I turned it on his [***] & said " Send me 500.00 to check you out & I'll send you $7,000.00  , tomorrow ( course w/no intention of doing so). I thought heck , if he's trying to con me - I may as well try to con him.

    SSN proves nothing.

Thousands of people have access to your SSN, and any of those sources could have leaked it to a crook.

FDCPA requires that debt collectors send proof of any alleged debt if you request it.  Those who refuse, or respond with threats or lies, may be running a criminal extortion racket.

I have been harrassed daily by an automated dialer, sometimes two or three times a day. It rings in from 904-483-3278 and hangs up immediately upon answering. I have been trying to identify the perp, but was unable to do so until today. I called the number back and a rep from some kind of security services company answered. I requested the calls discontinue, but all she said was that they are automated and she has no control over that. She then said,"Have a nice day!" and hung up. What defense do we have against this harrassment? I heard somewhere that automated dialing operators are not supposed to be allowed any longer. This is an invasion of our right to privacy.
