I recently purchased tickets through Cheapoair.com. This is what their website said:

Travel Insurance (Recommended) Coverage includes:
Trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, baggage delay, accidental death and dismemberment. Receive benefits up to $100,000. 24 hour EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE SERVICE is included with Insurance purchase. Yes, add insurance to my flight order.

What it didn't say, is that trip cancellation is only covered under medical emergencies. I have purchased insurance through delta, aa, airtran, sw air, and never had a problem. Not to mention, insurance through most of those is $15 to $20, I paid $30 for insurance through cheapoair.com and got less coverage. When I called them to speak about it, cheapoair blamed it all on the "3rd party insurance" I'm here to tell you that if you sell a product, you have some responsibility for it. To me this is false advertising, and a very shady business practice. I have filed complaints with the BBB.org, and the Federal Trade Commission. I hope you do the same with your complaints.

You are so right.  I didn't want to cancel my tickets, just needed to change the time.  They told me I would have to pay $200 per ticket (I had two) and file with the inurance company to get my money back. I just went to Soutwest and brought two return tickets for $98 each. This will be the last time I deal with Cheapoair.

I will NEVER buy insurance again.....and will begin booking my flights elsewhere! I only wanted to extend our trip and they want to charge me 176 each penalty plus charges. Basically I would pay the same amount I paid for the original trip. It's ridiculous, I called the airline directly and they gave me a way cheaper deal to my changes. Thanks for nothing CheapO....should be called CheapOinsuranceScam!!!!!

    Do not deal with CheapOAir.com!!!!!!!

    What a scam!

I recently purchased a round trip airline ticket from CheapOAir.com and I also purchased the $35 travel insurance policy at the time when I bought the air ticket. I read the insurance policy and it clearly stated it covers 100% trip cost up to $100,000. However, after I cancelled my trip due to medical reason and submitted my claim to the the insurance company. They told me the policy I bought from CheapOAir.com only covered the airline ticket, it does not cover ANY other non-refundable expense that I have paid for this trip including hotel reservation, train & tour tickets etc.

I had bought and used other travel insurances before and never had any problems

Do not deal with CheapOAir's deceptive practice and false advertisement!!!

I have used Cheapoair for many times, and it  is generally good when you dont need to change anything after ur booking. When u need to make changes, it gets ridiculous.... I booked Westjet airticket through Cheapoair. However I needed to change the dates of my flight, Cheapoair charged me 176.18USD for changing!!! This is one third of my original air ticket! I then went to Westjet Official website, and found out that changing dates after more than 24 hours of booking is $50. I was very mad about Cheapoair for this.

On 11/1/13, I flew from MI to CA to assist my father and step-mother. He has dementia and she had injured her back. Both are using walkers and are receiving medical treatment. I booked a roundtrip ticket for $622 and bought the $35 insurance from Cheapo Air. When I had to extend my stay, I was told that I'm not covered as the insurance only covers a death in the family. If I'd known that, I would never have bought their insurance. So they offered to fly me home for an extra $200 fee for changing the date plus the $200 increased cost of my new ticket. The guy on the phone said that was the best price he could offer. So I told him I was looking at his website as we spoke and found a flight for $205 (including fees & taxes), so Cheapo was trying to scam me out of an extra $200. It's definitely false advertising, and I will be filing a complaint with the BBB in about a minute.

I paid $50! dollars for my insurance, and I just got off the phone with a rep who wanted to charge me an extra $200 just to change my return date. (And I previously checked to make sure the new dates would be the same price.) I was furious. When he told me the I would have to fill out forms for reimbursement and submit medical emergency documentation in order to get *reimbursed* for the insurance I knew it was basically worthless and a scam. I'm seeing red... Didnt think about calling the airline. Nice suggestions!

I and my daughter have also experienced the same only WORSE for an International Flight & Tours.
My daughter paid $274 for Travel Insurance for 100% coverage on Delta Airlines to China and Tibet.
They; my daughter and grand daughter were 2-3 days from arriving in Khatmandhou & Nepal before the Earthquake.
ITN the travel agency and; Air Concierge and all other agencies involved sold them 100% Travel Insurance coverage, and now the ITN and other companies in crime now say that they have Ticket Protection, not Travel Insurance. This is Fraud and also violates DTPA! Deceptive Trade Practice; an Federal Crime????
When their Visas were about to expire, ITN nor Delta Airlines offered any solutions, and I had to be on the phone for a day with a lady at ITN who was helping, but when she finally got them a flight back home I had to pay another $1162, and now ITN and Delta say I did not have insurance.
I have filed this with the Federal Government, DOT, OIG, and am talking with a major law firm where I am also filing damages for $100,000

I just bought a ticket six days ago and found out it was booked for "Bob Joned" birthday 2/2/78...random.  Well apparently after 5 days they absolutely refuse to make any changes to the reservation.  American Airlines is unable to do so because it was booked through CheapoAir.  After being on hold 34 minutes for a supervisor, he said it was denied, even though my name is on the credit card.  I've spoken to Discover, and they said they can try but not guarantee to contest the charge.  My flight is in two months....what reason should I not be able to update the name?!

I made the mistake of buying a ticket with my first name slightly different as that shown on my passport.  Correction made with without any problem.

A total scam. I bought flight tickets from minneapolis to kathmandu and also bought a $139 insurance. Now they tell me that I cannot cancel my ticket, if I did I would have to pay $150 cancellation fee plus no total refund. I questioned them about the insurance and they tell me thats not their responsibility. My question is if it not your responsibility then why do you sell it through your website? To scam people?

Totally frustrating conversation with one of their customer representative. They were very rude.

Never again am I buying flight tickets from Cheapoair!

We missed a flight from Austin due to airport miscommunication and the clerk told us American Airlines (very rude clerk by the way) could not make any changes because it was Cheporairs ticket who booked with another airline we were to board... we spent a whole day communicating with so many chepo air service people who were not willing to do anything even though there the agent they don't want to help us and are referring us to American Airlines who can't make changes.Long story short we got a case number and we're able to talk to a supervisor but he put us on hold telling us our ticket is of no value because tickets are to expensive at this time and we even paid the insuarance which is useless these are the situations insurance are suppost to care for and now because there taking forever not responding were stuck here wasting our vacation and if we're unable to find something sue we will sue

Thank you all for your statements! This helps me drastically. I purchased the travel insurance through Cheapoair as well. Unforttunetly, we had a death in the family so we had to cancel our trip. They will not refund us because they are stating trip mate did not receive the documents until after the death  We purchased on Oct 12 death was Oct 25. They said Oct 30 is when cheap o air submitted our paper work. We are furious how is their tardiness and neglect our problem.  We appealed it 3 times, reported to Department of financial services and now thanks to everyones comments will take it further to BBB. Hopefully will will get some satisfaction!!
