I purchased two flight ticket online through a website: Cheapoair.ca on Oct 29, 2012. I received a confirmation email from cheapoair.ca after I have purchased the flight tickets, and the two  travelers' name on the email were both correct, it is because the travel date is Dec 14, 2012, so did not click the "print" link since it is still far away from my travel date.

However, I was trying to click into the "print" link from my confirmation email On Nov 9, I found out that the second traveler's name "Li Kawing" changed to be "Li Kawing Mei Meibo Au"(Which is some parts of the first traveler's name), the name does not match the confirmation email that I have received, so I called cheapoair.ca to have the name change, but they said it was me typed the middle name to be "Mei Meibo Au", it is just the confirmation email did not show the middle name, it does not make sense to me because I believe a confirmation email is what I have confirmed and everything should be correctly show as I typed, even it is a middle name, it should be showed since the name on the flight ticket is very sensitive.

I called 3 times to cheapoair.ca to correct this error that they have made, however, they refused to do it and asked me to pay $400CAD to cancel the ticket and re-purchase one which is going to be $2500CAD (The one I previously purchased was only $1250CAD), they said they have called the airline (Japan airline) and asked if the name can be changed, but I have also called Japan airline my own to see if I can change the name directly from Japan airline, Japan airline told me that my agent, which is cheapoair,ca have never called them to ask or to have name change request (Japan airline has saved all record if someone have made a call), Japan airline also said, it is the agent, cheapoair.ca to have the name change done, Japan airline does not have access to have information change in the ticket since the ticket is not directly issued from Japan airline. Japan airline have said, if the full name is correct but some words are extra at the end, the name can be changed for sure through the company who issued the flight ticket, but you guys are asking me to pay more which is unnecessary and name change should be done easily.

As I said, the name on the confirmation email that I have received was all correct, I believe cheapoair.ca have added/changed my informations that I have confirmed after I have confirmed the booking, they are refused to have the name changed for me and tried to make me pay more and re-purchase a more expensive flight ticket.

I am still dealing with this issue with cheapoair, hopefully everything works out.

so i booked a ticket for me, my infant son and my 3 yr old daughter. i know i typed my kids names correctly on the website because i can clearly remember checking my daughter's name if it was correct because my kids have almost identical names, so when i checked i know i corrected her name because i missed the 'e' on her name. but when my tickets came in and i was calling the airlines for meal requests they told me that 3 tickets were all under my name! i was shocked pissed and annoyed! the very same thing happened to my parents 2 years ago we were told that the names on their tickets were miss matched, the last name became their middle name and vice versa, at that time they made my parents pay an extra $1000 for the names to change correctly but when it was time for my parents to fly the next day the names were still the same and it was hard to talk to their customer service! some of their CSRs are rude and they shout at you. in the end they ended up cancelling the flight with a cancellation fee and never got the $1000 back! now this time it happened to me! they keep telling me they have a screen shot of my names written as the passengers, first thing i'm not stupid enough to write my name 3 times as a passenger 2nd thing, why would i make the same mistake my parents did, hence i know i checked my kids names right.  third thing when i called their hotline i talked to someone named Delroy and he raised his voice at me which in turn (stressed as i am with the tickets) made me raise my voice. he told me that a supervisor would call me but did not, i did the chat on their website still nothing, i emailed them they responded and asked for copies of our passports but still nothing! if i hadn't been following up with them they wouldn't do anything! so i ended up canceling my booking and was fine$500+ and then repurchased the tickets at a higher price which was $400 more! they weren't even apologetic or something for what happened!

Thanks for writing your story. Between this and all the complaints on the consumer affairs site (I highly recommend you complain to them as well as to the better business bureau), my ticket from Boston, MA to the Virgin Islands will be booked elsewhere. So glad I took the time to check these scam artists out. I can see there has been no response in almost 2 months! Thanks again and good luck!

The exact same thing happened to me the around the same time. I purchased a ticket on November 11th to Germany. When I entered the info. I put in my full name and when I got my itinary the last name of both myself and co-traveller were omitted. I tried to contact CheapoAir the day of the booking and their automated recording told me that unless my flight was in 7 days I should contact them via email. Then once they responded to my email 3 days later I was instructed to call CheapoAir again.  They told me it was going to cost me over $600 for each person to correct the last name as well as $1295 penalty, similiar to the fees Meibo was charged, but I put up such a fuss that the agent convinced me that the best option would be to cancel and rebook.  This resulted in $900 in fees.  I didn't agree to these fees and spoke to a supervisor who supported the agent and said that all they could do would be to send a waiver request.

They did refund me $300 (cancelation fee from Cheapoair), stating the outstanding $600 was up to the airline. In the meanwhile I also decided to contact the airline (Air Canada). They informed me that Air Canada does not charge to make a name correction and CheapoAir handled it wrong.  They also had no notes on my file regarding any agents contacting them.

I received a second email from CheapoAir saying they were looking into these fees, giving excuses that they were waiting for the airlines and blaming Hurricane Sandy for refund delays.  I decided to check with Air Canada again and they said they were having no such issues, and again that no refund request had been received. Since this was my second time contacting Air Canada, the Air Canada agent also confirmed that what the CheapoAir agent did was wrong and there were no need for any kind of fees or cancelling and rebooking of the ticket in the first place.  It was a simple name correction.

I contacted Cheapoair and shared the information Air Canada shared with me.  When I asked for proof that the waiver had been submitted to the airline, they responded with "the airlines had declined the refund", and suggested I take care of it myself.

I am not sure if I was being pulled into a scam, as Meibo believes, but I will never buy tickets from this company again nor do advise others to do so.

Hi I would like to warn people not to fall for the 'save £21' scam on Cheapoair.  I wanted to book tickets for Poland with Ryanair and ended up paying £10 each way more by booking with 'Cheapoair' rather than direct with Ryanair.  To say I am not happy is an understatement.  I know it's my fault for not checking but I believed their claims of being cheaper ...... but never again!!!  grrrr

I used the CheapOAir online sight for the first time in May 2013 to book my travel to NY from Denver. I booked my flights before I saw the possible 'scam' headlines. Not only did I book my flight for cheaper than any other sight/airline could offer, my travel and flights were flawless and done with ease. I will certainly use CheapOAir again. Thanks.

That half the complaints aren't valid, ya notice no one ever gives their names, or provides confirmations...that way the company can't validate if this is bogus or a real issue....I booked with them and never had a problem! 23767612

        Dear Brook
I dont know in what kind of world you are living in. Try to understand it doesnt happen with everybody. I have faced two problems with them. Name change, they were overcharging me just to change the name, while airline does not charge any money to do that. Secondly, for my cancellation of ticket they did not refund any money, however, Airlines charges only $200 for cancellation, which means these are bunch of crooks.
And as the identity issue is concerned to you, why would people reveal their identity. And even if they put their names or booking numbers, are you going to check it?
        Thanks

I purchased a ticket from Cheapoair to fly overseas to see my 90+ year old mother well in advance of my travel date. I received an e-mail confirmation followed by another confirmation containing a booking number and an e-ticket number. For some reason I could never find my trip listed anywhere except on Cheapoair's website. I checked with the airline ~ no such booking found. I checked on "checkmytrip.com" ~ once again no such booking found. I called Cheapoair several times during the period prior to my departure only to be advised that there were no changes and that my trip was indeed confirmed and no problems were found. Be aware that Cheapoair's customer service (or lack of service) is out of India. If the agent you are speaking to doesn't like what you're saying they put you on hold forever hoping you will hang up. Against my better judgement I took the chance of going to the airport on the scheduled departure date. At the check in counter I was advised that the booking number was bogus, did not exist. The airline's booking numbers are totally different to the one I was given. The e-ticket number also did not exist. The agent even called to see if it could be fixed as it was obvious that my ticket had been paid for but nothing could be done to fix it. As my trip was going to be out of the country I decided that the best thing to do was to go back home and contact Cheapoair to try and get my money back. This proved to be an exercise in futility. Seven agents later, with ultra long hold times in the hopes that I would hang up, I finally handed the phone to my husband. My husband managed to get through to a supervisor but this took about 45 minutes. Remember at this stage both of us had already spent well over 2 hours trying to get something accomplished. We'd been put on hold, agent checking in with clicks from time to time on the phone to see if we'd hung up yet. In the meantime I called my bank's fraud department and had them lodge an investigation into the charge. My husband at this point was still on the line with the supervisor and was eventually told that they would provide a refund but that it could take 2-3 billing cycles to appear. 2-3 billing cycles would be the equivalent of 90+ days, or maybe never. This is totally unacceptable and the equivalent of stealing in my book.  My brother had a similar experience with Cheapoair earlier this year but was fortunate enough to be in a city where a physical travel agent could fix the problem prior to his departure. Cheapoair is owned and operated by Hahn Air out of Belgium. They apparently have many online booking sites including Cheaptravel, cheaptickets etc.  Too many to mention. Oh I forgot to mention that when you get your e-mail with your so called e-ticket it has a link to reserve your seat. I clicked on this link (silly me) and was then told that I couldn't reserve a seat for this flight but my credit card was charged. I have yet to see the refund that's supposed to be credited to my account and this has been ongoing for well in excess of 60 days. I recommend anyone considering booking with Cheapoair, Hahn Air, or any of its subsiduary companies to read about my experience and think about whether it's worth your time, effort and possible theft of your hard earned money. My bank has an ongoing fraud investigation against this company. No one should have to go through this type of experience.

It cost me $1,950 for 3 of us ( to change the date)
It was fishi because the agent with heavy accent had static line, and rushed me saying he only had 3 seats left that I should book it now
