I have received countless phone calls on my cell, they have called a friend of mine many times, and even called my employer several times. Harry Smith, with a thick Hindu accent, from American Law Division says I have a suit filed against me and my SSN. If I do not take action on this I will be put behind bars. I told him he is not to call me, my friend, or my employer repeatedly, yet he has still been calling. He said it was about a pay day loan, which is total crap.

They are a bunch of criminals calling from overseas, probably India, probably via VoIP because it's cheap, and trying to scam and extort money out of Americans for phony "payday loans".  They may even have information like old account numbers, SSN, DOB, relatives or employers, possibly from pulling credit reports or through skip-trace searches, or sometimes phony on-line payday loan sites, but the alleged debts are entirely phony, or if real, not owed to these crooks.

File a complaint with the FBI, and if they keep calling, record them and tell them the call is being recorded as evidence.  If they have any brains, they will move on when they know you won't be conned.

A couple of weeks ago I got a call that said it was from Washington DC,1-800 number. A man with a strong foreign accent said he was from the CFI and my social security number was under attack and I am being sued. I ask him who is suing me, he said some loan company, and wanted to know when I am going to start paying them. Strange!!!!!!!!!!

    "from the CFI"
They often make up fake "law enforcement" names.  No real law enforcement is going to call you and threaten you with a lawsuit to get money out of you.

"my social security number was under attack"
Pretty typical of their language.  They don't even know what a SSN is.

Just received a call from a Jonathan Knight first it was Daniel White with American Law Division (863)455-1172 stating that I have a suit filed against me and my SSN for a pay day loan and that they were issuing a warrant for my arrest with the police to issue the warrant at my job or home within 24hrs.  He kept repeating my email address and asking was I receiving notices in my email and I stated no, if you have my email address then why was I not receiving a notice that I was being sued or arrested?

I received a call from my dad.  Apparently he received a call from Austin Jones with American Law Division in regards to fraud that I had committed.  Austin told my dad that he would be arrested for helping me to avoid the fraud charges if he didn't have me contact them immediately.  Austin told my dad that I had falsified documents and listed him on them.  I contacted the number that was given to my dad, (786) 539-4784, and Austin answered the phone.  He did not give me the company name at first and was guessing at what my name could be.  I started to realize that the names he was saying were all on my face book page. I told Austin that harassing phone calls were against the law in the United States and if he represented a US based company then they would face charges and he would have to stand trial.  He hung up on me.  When I tried calling the number the next day, it wasn't working.  Apparently they switch phone numbers frequently and names.

To all those who are also receiving these calls, please see link http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2013/07/amg.shtm - I have done 4 things.  First is file complaint with FTC, second is register for National Do Not Call List, third is Opt-out, and 4th is saving the threatful messages left in case FTC requests it. - There a thousands of people who have experienced this threatful collection tactic, as indicated in the FTC link above.  The most recent message was we'll see you in court.  I'm debt free, these people don't even state where they're from or where the debt is from, and messages left only say they're from a legal department but don't specify with which company.  Real debt collectors will send you a notice and give you options to settle, and also do not call you to threaten about settling out of court without Identifying who they are or reason for their call.  Now they have to settle with FTC.  If they believe they are not bound by laws, just keep saving your complaints and keep forwarding them to FTC.

I have gotten several calls from these same people and they called a relative of mine the first time as well. The call I get is actually from "Karen Daniels" who says a complaint against me has come across her desk and I need to call the number she gives me with the ID number immediately to avoid further action.  I called the number, asked them who they were (they said they were a mediation firm) and told them I thought they were trying to scam me. They gave me some weird name of the person who supposedly filed the complaint and when I said I don't know anyone by that name, they said they would remove my name from their list. I have gotten two calls since then, one with a different ID number and the latest with a different phone number. I am sure if I called and didn't tell them I thought they were scamming me, they would tell me that for $$$ they would settle the dispute.

Thanks for reporting that they are getting names to target through Facebook.  Was your dad's name on your Facebook page, or did they get that from another source?

I originally started receiving the calls in December and fought back and forth trying to get information from these people as to who was supposedly investigating me. They said it was for a payday loan I received when I didn't even have the bank account they mentioned. When I told him as much he quickly said well I guess you have nothing to worry about and hung up on me. When I tried to get additional information regarding the company they transferred me to various people within the same office and played it off as if they were the pay day loan company. I received another call this morning from the same company.  There has to be something that can be done to stop this.
