Do not...I repeat...do NOT buy a Bluegreen timeshare under any conditions. No matter how sweet it may sound, it is a rip-off. My wife and I bought one, and we are in a continual state of regret about it. It is virtually impossible to sell (the same amount of points we bought for $10,000 are selling for about $3,000 online), plus we have yearly fees of about $700 that must be paid for us to even be able to keep using it.

Here are some of the things you may not hear while you're in a Bluegreen presentation... we didn't:

-each year you will have to pay both "maintenance fees" and "club dues," which for us amount to over $700. If you don't pay, you can't use any of your points at all until you do pay.

-many of the resorts they tell you about can only be booked in 7-day increments, which means you'll take that trip and no others for two years because you'll use up all your points on that single trip.

-we just found this one out... if you don't have the points, you can't book a trip... for example, we get 12,000 new points in July, so I called to book something in August. Well, I can't do that until I "have the points." Of course, by the time the points actually show up, all the places will be booked for the summer. We're all paid up on maintenance fees and club dues, so we will definitely get the points, but too bad... we have to wait. The person on the phone even sympathized with me and said he understood what I was saying, but too bad.

-they say they will help you rent your timeshare, but this is a joke. Your timeshare will never rent for anything near what you need to maintain the fees on it, much less pay it off.

-take a look at this web site to see what points are actually worth if you buy them on eBay: http://popular.ebay.com/ns/Real-Estate/Bluegreen.html If you really desperately want Bluegreen points, don't buy them from Bluegreen.

-they tell you that you can book things just a day or two in advance, but this is almost never possible in real life. Things are booked up months in advance.

Owning a Bluegreen timeshare is like a weight that you have to drag around with you for the rest of your life. There are many places that will rent timeshares if you like that kind of thing, and you can usually get them fairly cheap and without any obligation for the future. When I imagine paying $700 a year for the rest of my life, it feels amazingly scary. Don't do it. You're locking yourself into something that will never end when there is absolutely no need to do so.

They give you the free trip, then take advantage of how little you've researched timeshares when you're in the presentation. They tell you this price can only be offered this one time, and that you can't take another trip. It's all cheap sales techniques, and they wouldn't be necessary if it were something people really benefited from.

We even looked on the internet during our sales presentation... if only I had come across a letter like this, we probably wouldn't have bought, and we'd be much better off. At least take a few days to think about it. If they can't give you that long to think, they're tricking you anyway.

Buying a Bluegreen timeshare is a terrible decision. They, like many salespeople, will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to buy, knowing that they will not personally be accountable for any misrepresentations of the truth later on.

One thing they promised us is that we could rent our timeshare. Now they've done away with that aspect as well, so you either use it, keep paying about $700 in fees each year along with whatever you paid originally, or you just lose the points. Every letter we receive is something else they're taking away from us.

The most recent thing that happened was that we had tried to rent ours out for 10,000 points (most of our points) before they decided to stop letting people do that. So I called today, 10 days in advance, to check and make sure it was rented, since this is the cut-off for when I can cancel without losing points. So the guy on the phone told me that yes, it is rented. And I asked, "Well, what happens if the people cancel sometime in the next 10 days?" He said, "We don't have any control over that, sir." And I said, "I understand that, but I don't either. So what happens to my points if they cancel?" And he said, "Well, you lose those points."

So some renter I don't even know can decide to back out at the last minute, and I lose 10,000 points and don't get to travel or make any money from my timeshare for 2 years! That seems fair...

Everything Bluegreen does seems to be a way to get themselves more money and screw over their "valued customers."

And Bluegreen, if you're reading this, don't bother calling me trying to get me to revoke the complaint... we're trying to sell our timeshare as quickly as we can and hopefully never have any interaction with you for as long as we live.

You did not do your "due diligence". You bought something from a  commissioned sales person that you knew nothing about.  Any sales person tells you the positives minimizes the negatives.  Its their job to make a sale.  It's your job to do your due diligence to investigate and know what you are purchasing.  If you had read the contracts you were initialing and signing you would have seen there was a period of rescission.  In which you can legally get out of your contractual agreement.

I have owned with Bg since 2007, have gone on 107 night of vacations in Tn, Missouri, Virginia, south Carolina, Alabama, most multiple times.  Bg is the only way we could have afforded and made time to vacation this much as a family.

If you are flexible as to when and where you go, and can plan in advance BG can work for you.  do your homework before purchasing.  Know the difference between developer and resale purchases.  Understand how a points system works before you buy.  Going to disney world, traded Bg points into a Disney vacation club resort there in the park.  Much cheaper than paying Disney.  Learn how to use what you have.  Www.groups.yahoo.com/group/Bluegreen

Its an excellent partnership.  Have you been to big cedar?  If not then you don't fully know the investment big cedar has in its resort.  Bluegreen brings a lot of experience and customers to the table!

I have been a Bluegreen Owner since 2007.  I bought all of my points through resale and have traveled on average 5-6 weeks per year using Bluegreen resorts or exchanging through RCI or II.  The problem I see in the posts below is that people got caught up in the moment and bought through the developer.  Instead of coming to sites like this and complaining after the fact, you should look for info online before purchasing anything.  Then, you know what you are buying.  I love Bluegreen.  Sure, like any business, it has its faults, but I work hard at planning ahead, getting the most out of what I own and working the system to my advantage.  Bluegreen is a good solid company.  Unfortunately, the timeshare industry is built on selling with pressure sales situtions by bringing you in for the free gift and then giving you the "you will only be able to get this deal if you buy today".  Well, I have never found that argument credible and have never made this kind of investment on the spot.

Do your homework in advance and there are lots of great bargains out there in Bluegreen and other timeshare companies.

If any of you Bluegreen fans would like 10000 points for free, give me a call at (865) 983-7658.  I can't give mine away, though God knows I have tried.  I would love to forget I ever heard of Bluegreen. Like the proverbial "sucker born every minute" I bought a few years ago after a pressure sales pitch and I have regretted it ever since.  Should have done like the guy who started this thread said and done more research before spending $10,000. For the cost of 2 years of club dues and maintenance fees (and 10,000 points will only let you vacation every 2 years and only then if you can find an available week) you can stay at some very nice places for rent by owner right on the beach along the Emerald Coast of Florida's panhandle.  A great big AMEN to what this guy is saying:  Stay Away from Bluegreen.

    Cstory, forever sorry and broke
I am located in Illinois but after receiving mailers and false promices for a FREE 3 day 2 night trip to big cedar lodge my husband and i went, and i'm sorry to say after hours of pressure sales we succombed to the high pressure tactics, we havent been able to use the weeks/points for 2-3 years due to health issues, we have called several times and got no answers, i checked out a resale place that wanted more money to post and also believe this to be a scam, we purchaced this back in 2006 and still owe several thousand in mortgage and maintenance fees.
I learned today that Pennsylvania attorney General had won a lawsuit against the mail co. in florida for the Pennsylvania residents and now plan on filing a complaint with Illinois Attorney General to try to get them to look at the Pennsylvania lawsuit and see if we can do the same for Illinois residents and all you folks from other states should try the same, look up the lawsuit results and notify your state reps, Good luck everyone.

Bluegreen is nothing but a "scam". Their sales people lie lie through their teeth to you. Unfortunately, we got scammed into buying one. I don't think I could give it away, it is so bad. It is almost impossible to use your points as they oversell their timeshares and make it virtually impossible to get into one to use it, unless you are willing to buy more points from them. We have tried to make reservations as far as 7-8 months out and cannot get what we want and when we do get something (not what we want) the facilities are rough to say the least. Who knows what they do with their yearly maintenance fees they charge! I could go on and on as to how bad they are, but their is not enough room to put in all down here!

Bass Pro Shops owns Bluegreen and/or Bluegreen owns Bass Pro Shops. Bluegreen Timeshares are a scam. I own one and they are terrible to deal with.

I went to a "VIP" sales meeting with my wife last year. I told them that since my wife was in poor health that we would not be interested in buying more points. Stan Kolar, super conman, told me that there was with a "new" plan.  If we purchased more points ($9,000)and became a "Gold Member" that we could anytime in the future resale "all" our points, both those points purchased in 2000 ($7,500)  and the points in 2010 ($9.000) and get ALL the money back ($16,500).The sales manager assured me that that was true.  My wife died a month later.  When I tried to execute the resale I was told there was no such deal. Now I have no wife to travel with and I am stuck with a $814 yearly dues. I want my $9,000 back or Stan's head sent to me packed in ice.

    Happy with Blue Green
We have owned Blue Green for over 10 years. We go for long weekends to their wonderful place in Charleston and the Fountains in Orlando are a favortie with my daughter.  We went to Big Cedar and it was AMAZING.  We stayed at the Cliffs.  I know that the maintenance fees are a constant but I don't know anywhere you can stay for a week or 2 weeks for $800 - $1,000 in nice accommodations.  Maybe you should call and ask for tips on how to use your timeshare more efficiently.  While there are places that require a 7 day stay, there are more that do not.

We were excited about our Bluegreen purchase until we tried to use it.... The 'bonus points' we were given as an incentive were a joke. Everytime we tried to use them it was not available, but we could use 'points' to book it and since we didn't have the entire amt avail at the time we were booking, we could pre-pay next years dues to use the points... Went to an Owners Update meeting which was nothing more than another sales pitch to sell MORE points.... WHAT A SCAM. Count us in if you are serious in a class action suit. nancyrrussell@yahoo.com
