Do not...I repeat...do NOT buy a Bluegreen timeshare under any conditions. No matter how sweet it may sound, it is a rip-off. My wife and I bought one, and we are in a continual state of regret about it. It is virtually impossible to sell (the same amount of points we bought for $10,000 are selling for about $3,000 online), plus we have yearly fees of about $700 that must be paid for us to even be able to keep using it.

Here are some of the things you may not hear while you're in a Bluegreen presentation... we didn't:

-each year you will have to pay both "maintenance fees" and "club dues," which for us amount to over $700. If you don't pay, you can't use any of your points at all until you do pay.

-many of the resorts they tell you about can only be booked in 7-day increments, which means you'll take that trip and no others for two years because you'll use up all your points on that single trip.

-we just found this one out... if you don't have the points, you can't book a trip... for example, we get 12,000 new points in July, so I called to book something in August. Well, I can't do that until I "have the points." Of course, by the time the points actually show up, all the places will be booked for the summer. We're all paid up on maintenance fees and club dues, so we will definitely get the points, but too bad... we have to wait. The person on the phone even sympathized with me and said he understood what I was saying, but too bad.

-they say they will help you rent your timeshare, but this is a joke. Your timeshare will never rent for anything near what you need to maintain the fees on it, much less pay it off.

-take a look at this web site to see what points are actually worth if you buy them on eBay: http://popular.ebay.com/ns/Real-Estate/Bluegreen.html If you really desperately want Bluegreen points, don't buy them from Bluegreen.

-they tell you that you can book things just a day or two in advance, but this is almost never possible in real life. Things are booked up months in advance.

Owning a Bluegreen timeshare is like a weight that you have to drag around with you for the rest of your life. There are many places that will rent timeshares if you like that kind of thing, and you can usually get them fairly cheap and without any obligation for the future. When I imagine paying $700 a year for the rest of my life, it feels amazingly scary. Don't do it. You're locking yourself into something that will never end when there is absolutely no need to do so.

They give you the free trip, then take advantage of how little you've researched timeshares when you're in the presentation. They tell you this price can only be offered this one time, and that you can't take another trip. It's all cheap sales techniques, and they wouldn't be necessary if it were something people really benefited from.

We even looked on the internet during our sales presentation... if only I had come across a letter like this, we probably wouldn't have bought, and we'd be much better off. At least take a few days to think about it. If they can't give you that long to think, they're tricking you anyway.

Buying a Bluegreen timeshare is a terrible decision. They, like many salespeople, will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to buy, knowing that they will not personally be accountable for any misrepresentations of the truth later on.

One thing they promised us is that we could rent our timeshare. Now they've done away with that aspect as well, so you either use it, keep paying about $700 in fees each year along with whatever you paid originally, or you just lose the points. Every letter we receive is something else they're taking away from us.

The most recent thing that happened was that we had tried to rent ours out for 10,000 points (most of our points) before they decided to stop letting people do that. So I called today, 10 days in advance, to check and make sure it was rented, since this is the cut-off for when I can cancel without losing points. So the guy on the phone told me that yes, it is rented. And I asked, "Well, what happens if the people cancel sometime in the next 10 days?" He said, "We don't have any control over that, sir." And I said, "I understand that, but I don't either. So what happens to my points if they cancel?" And he said, "Well, you lose those points."

So some renter I don't even know can decide to back out at the last minute, and I lose 10,000 points and don't get to travel or make any money from my timeshare for 2 years! That seems fair...

Everything Bluegreen does seems to be a way to get themselves more money and screw over their "valued customers."

And Bluegreen, if you're reading this, don't bother calling me trying to get me to revoke the complaint... we're trying to sell our timeshare as quickly as we can and hopefully never have any interaction with you for as long as we live.

OK... Bluegreen is advertising for sales jobs opening in Charlotte, NC - which is how I happened upon this blog trail.  (never apply for anything without reading the background on an unknown company)...

What I find most interesting is that the original post is from 2007 - with one response in 2008.  Then, come Feb 2012 - the blog explodes, including a post from just 21 hours ago. I can sell ice to an eskimo - but I would *never* commit fraud or misrepresent something, and always provide full disclosure upfront.  Is the company THAT bad?

We've been Bluegreen owners since 2002.  We initially had some of the frustrations with getting booked at a good location but became Silver members and no more problems.  Also, I often go in the slightly off season and can literally get in on a day's notice.  Just last week, May 1-3 we got 3 days in Orlando Fl at the Fountains with only 2 days prior notice.   Beautiful weather and fun for everyone.  Other places that are nice in the slightly off-season include Gatlinburg (our favorite), Myrtle Beach (go in Feb or September), etc.  Doing that also makes your points go further.  We have 25,000 points and have stayed 3 1/2 weeks this year on them at different places.  If you want to go during the peak season, you need to book as soon as your program allows.  We get an extra month to book so we go pretty much anywhere we want to at anytime as we beat out the regular members and Bronze Members.  There aren't that many Gold or Platinum Members in the program though we're thinking about it so that we can get the Presidential Suites.   In short, just learn how to use your points efficiently and wisely and you'll find a great value.

You don't have to be Gold or Platinum to get the presidential suites.  We're silver and had an opportunity at a 2 bedroom in Savannah, GA this weekend for two nights for $382.00 (they call them bonus nights).  Decided we didn't have the time to go so quickly, especially with an upcoming California trip.  Granted, a Gold member would get the same suite for $119/night as opposed to our $169/night.  Hotels.com listed the same Presidential Suite at $769/night.

I can't seem to keep up with a bill for $1208.00 a year for Maintaince fees. I still pay for the $19,000. Shares I haven't used yet and, want to have people pay me for using them for a week-end what do I charge them. I'm in tears, I have my son who had back surgery, his fiancé and her 3 little girls living with us. My sons FMLA ran out at work and they had the balls to fire him. His Dr has t released him to go to work. He can't get unemployment, he is a reserve Sr. Staff SGT.  in the Air Force. So he isn't totally unemployed. But he has been hitting the pavement with interviews while the girls are in school. She cleans houses .
I and my husband has jobs plus we volunteer for the VFW, Scouts and our other 3 grandchildren we would like to take them on a vacation. But I have those Damn Maintaince fees. I bought or upgraded to 3 shares why am I getting charged for 4 and the account numbers don't match my numbers and I'm st work when they are open I come home and they are closed. I'm in tears we need a vacation. HELP

Timeshare scams have been around since the beginning of the timeshare industry, but these frauds weren’t well known until recent years. What happen is that before there were not as many timeshare laws and regulations as there are now so many of the owners just resigned to the fact that they had to keep the timeshare they bought without thinking. http://www.timesharescam.com/blog/115-timeshare-companies/

My wife and I just sat thru a presentation. I caught them in 3 lies. I was told points can roll over every year. Not true the can only roll over to the next year and must be used or they are lost. 2nd they said association fees don't go up. Untrue if there is a hurricane in Aruba the cost will be spread out to all owners. 3rd they told me if I didn't sign up that day I would lose all the perks they offered me. Untrue the fine print stays they may not, not they will not make this same offer. I was able to leave the table and was told I could talk it over and still get the same offer the next day. When I left I'm glad I looked up all of the complaints they far out way the good comments posted. Not to mention the good comments about all the places people said they enjoyed are the same places the salesman bragged about in his sales pitch. Coincidence hmmmm I think these ate people who work for BlueGreen posting positive comments. Check out the Internet and you will see what I'm talking about. Florida just did an exposé on time share. Buyer beware!!!!! Also this company was sued by either the NC or SC Attorney General and was fined 125k. Good luck all!

Why would anyone buy a timeshare ever? especially from Bluegreen, which is known for deceiving thousands of clients, If you don't wanna end up into big financial troubles, I'd suggest you to stay away from Bluegreen or any timeshare purchase. This is a good article about the REAL value of timeshares and how to get rid of one:

After reconsidering, we would sell our 6,000 points for 4,000.  We still have over 5,000 for this year and will receive 6,000 more on July 30

Scarlett you obviously work for Bluegreen.  Nobody spends that much time defending something they purchased.  Plus you give out an e-mail address.  Bluegreen works for some that can afford it.  Others of us feel like there were a lot of half truths.  We don't want to be tied to this for the rest of our lives.  Bluegreen has created rules that make it impossible to sell even though during their presentation they say they will help you will sell it.  There rules like not transferring membership and setting the price instead of letting the owners decide on what they would be willing to sell it for make it worthless.  Even when we pay for this and I want to "give" it to my kids.  Here you go kids and here is a $700 debt every year for the rest of your lives and your kids when you give it to them.  If it were truly property being sold I could sell when and for the amount I decided was fair.  Sometimes I feel like I sold my soul.  We will be having a lawyer review our contract and looking at options to get out.  I would gladly eat the money I have paid and give it back to be free from it.

Seeing all these positive owners, if anyone is interested, you can have (free) my 7000 points.  I'm not sure how we would go about transferring it to your name, but we can work it out.  It does not work for my family and the scary part is that once my husband and I are gone, that my children would be responsible for it.
Please email me at giftofgab-pp@insightbb.com if you are interested.

Ben, we are going to St Pete to sit through a presentation and get our 3 days/nights for $200. Your post is very helpful for us to know the questions to ask and how to anti-sell as we have no intentions of buying.  We're printing it out to bring with us.

Well, 1 of the Gotscrewed Crew & will now become part of the Geteven Crew. When taking your vacation, live like a king. Leave the water run, lights on,T.V.s on. Dirty every piece of linen you can & ask for more.yippee! Do NOT damage anything because we do NOT want to drive up maintenance fees. Do NOT do business with anyone they recommend. Meet other like minded timeshare holders & share your time with them & they reciprocate. Everyone will double their time at no extra expense & you make new friends. Win-win experience for both. Hi 1%.

Without a doubt, timeshare cancellation is the best option to get rid of an unwanted timeshare. Once the timeshare contract is properly cancelled, there are no further financial obligations attached to the resort, which means:

    No more calls
    No more timeshare maintenance fees
    No more timeshare debt
    No more special assessment fees

I have 6000 points I get every other year it is Paid for. Blue Green will not even take it back and us giving it to them. We have tried to sale lost 2 o3 thousand dollars in the process. All gimmicks. Even sign up with Pinnacle for $39.00 a year to advertise it for sale. No hits at all. I personally think they are all tied in together. Blue Green Sales, People offering to sell for you, Pinnacle advertising. Now it is Pinnacle Recovery, INC because we refuse to pay another dime on maintenance fees of Club dues. We never once use the club but still had to pay dues. Pinnacle Recovery, INC says we owe $910.58 for 2013 dues. Our yearly cost was $601.90 + $58.95 Late fees and finance chgs: The rest is what Pinnacle Recovery Inc tack on it. Now to go one more step if you die your kids or who ever you leave it to get to pay these maintenance and club fees. never ending. We had another time share we gave $17000. for we bought the 6000 points to carry us up to bronze. We had the one we bought for $17000. paid far so we did not see the point in tying them together and owing for all of it again. We gave the $17000. one away for $5000. That was sold thru Time Shares only. Now we just have the 6000 points and can't even give it away. So as it stands we have had A one credit. They have told us they will turn it in to the credit bureau and it will go against us. We were told when we first bought into the time shares if we ever wanted to get rid of it there would be no problem and it would go up in value. Just one of the many lies we have been told.

For anyone reading this, there are only two ways out of a Bluegreen timeshare. One, sell it to someone more stupid than you. Two, donate it. Donating it costs money for closing costs and transfer fees, but you will save money in the long run. I am working with http://www.donateforacause.org/index.php to transfer mine. Will cost me $2000 (and believe me, I am reading over their contract word by word) in transfer fees and closing costs, but the paperwork will also come from BG's legal department. You can only transfer it. It can't be cancelled.

    Sucks to be us.
