Unauthorized charges
Complaint
Ashley Orr
Country: Canada
I have had multiple unauthorized charges on my credit card in the last weeks totaling over $800.00. The bank is claiming that the card has not been compromised and is insisting the charges need to be disputed. It appears that accounts have been set up with this credit card for the following companies:
Wallet8004717182 - RENO
CONSTANTSTARS
2CO.COM 2CHECKOUT.COM
2CO.COM PPTEMPLATE
YAHOO WALLET
PAYPAL
GMONEYBIZ.COM
8003388712 SUB00 OF 00
WWC*SEARCHCACTUS
ULTIMATEHEALTH
CLICKMONEY
While I am fully aware that many of these are legit businesses (such as paypal and yahoo wallet), accounts with them have never been set up with this card. The bank said that sometimes online software companies will have hidden agreements. Just prior to the appearance of these illegitimate charges I made two software purchases online: DiskWarrior and FastTrack from ALSOFT and AEC Software.
Could these companies have given my account information out? Needless to say it has resulted in hours of time on the phone, much frustration, and even when I am able to have the money refunded I loose on the exchange rate (I am in Canada and these charges are being made from the States).

Allegation of fraudulent charges, possibly "health product" scam.

2CHECKOUT.COM appears to be a payment processor. They may be running through charges either the result of a shady merchant, or due to someone using your account information at a legitimate merchant.
800-338-8712, if it is a phone number, appears to be a seller of gym equipment.

Appears to be some advertising deal that pays a few cents to use their search engine (i.e. "pay per click"), presumably through payments from their real clients. Not sure why they would be charging you, unless some thief used your card to pay for advertising for some illicit business.

CLICKMONEY sounds like something similar.
Overall picture looks like someone got your card number and went on a spending spree, particularly doing a few on-line purchases to test the card, and then setting up on-line accounts to to drain off money.
Some purchases appear to be intangibles, while others (gym equipment?) may have involved shipments of real stuff to a real address. Based on the speed of fraudulent charges, and setting up payment account access to your card through which payments to other merchants could be laundered, it appears they know how to commit this type of fraud.
Next to electronics, sports equipment appears to be a popular fraudulent purchase using stolen credit cards to convert card theft to something of value, possibly for later sale on eBay, etc.
As to how your number was compromised, it might have been any site (including physical brick and mortar) you used it at.
Also, some on-line sites have payment processors who pass card numbers fraudulently to "membership" scams, often through pop-ups offering "discounts" that appear to be from the merchant you thought you were buying from.
Not familiar with Canadian law, but in the U.S. you would block your card immediately by reporting the fraud to your credit card company, but you must dispute the fraudulent charges IN WRITING to the dispute address on your statement to invoke your FCBA dispute rights.
The written dispute must be received by your bank in less than 60 days from the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charges to preserve your FCBA dispute rights. Failure of the credit card company to properly investigate results in their waiving the first $50 of the charges even if they are valid.
Contracts require an offer (disclosing terms), a meeting of the minds (common understanding of what is being agreed to by both parties), acceptance of the offer, and consideration (something of value is being exchanged), to create a binding contract.
"Hidden agreements" are just another name for fraud and theft.
If you hide your terms, only to assert them later, you are not making a binding contract, just engaging in a carefully planned fraud.
Close the account immediately due to fraud. Send your dispute of the fraudulent charges to your bank's dispute address. Follow up by filing a police complaint, and send a copy of the report with a fraud affidavit to your bank. Also be aware that both VISA and MasterCard claim to have no liability for fraud policies, but be sure to dispute timely to assert them.
Don't let time slip, since that is the most likely reason your bank will turn down reversing the charges.

I have been debited MASTERCARD by 2CO.Com on November 13, 2009 of $ 29.95 and on December 10, 2009 also for $ 29.95. I do not remember ever ordering anything on this site, let alone twice. Please explain.
Thanks
