Unauthorized charges

Complaint

I have had multiple unauthorized charges on my credit card in the last weeks totaling over $800.00. The bank is claiming that the card has not been compromised and is insisting the charges need to be disputed. It appears that accounts have been set up with this credit card for the following companies:

Wallet8004717182 - RENO
CONSTANTSTARS
2CO.COM 2CHECKOUT.COM
2CO.COM PPTEMPLATE
YAHOO WALLET
PAYPAL
GMONEYBIZ.COM
8003388712 SUB00 OF 00
WWC*SEARCHCACTUS
ULTIMATEHEALTH
CLICKMONEY

While I am fully aware that many of these are legit businesses (such as paypal and yahoo wallet), accounts with them have never been set up with this card. The bank said that sometimes online software companies will have hidden agreements. Just prior to the appearance of these illegitimate charges I made two software purchases online: DiskWarrior and FastTrack from ALSOFT and AEC Software.

Could these companies have given my account information out? Needless to say it has resulted in hours of time on the phone, much frustration, and even when I am able to have the money refunded I loose on the exchange rate (I am in Canada and these charges are being made from the States).

Numerous reports of unauthorized charges against the first number:
    http://www.callercomplaints.com/SearchResult.aspx?Phone=800-471-7182

Allegation of fraudulent charges, possibly "health product" scam.
    http://www.complaintsboard.com/complaints/fraudulent-credit-card-charge-c236816.html

2CHECKOUT.COM appears to be a payment processor.  They may be running through charges either the result of a shady merchant, or due to someone using your account information at a legitimate merchant.

800-338-8712, if it is a phone number, appears to be a seller of gym equipment.
    http://www.govcb.com/vendor/view.cfm?dataid=PRO000000000P0274655
    http://www.mancinomats.com/

Appears to be some advertising deal that pays a few cents to use their search engine (i.e. "pay per click"), presumably through payments from their real clients.  Not sure why they would be charging you, unless some thief used your card to pay for advertising for some illicit business.

    CLICKMONEY sounds like something similar.

Overall picture looks like someone got your card number and went on a spending spree, particularly doing a few on-line purchases to test the card, and then setting up on-line accounts to to drain off money.

Some purchases appear to be intangibles, while others (gym equipment?) may have involved shipments of real stuff to a real address.  Based on the speed of fraudulent charges, and setting up payment account access to your card through which payments to other merchants could be laundered, it appears they know how to commit this type of fraud.

Next to electronics, sports equipment appears to be a popular fraudulent purchase using stolen credit cards to convert card theft to something of value, possibly for later sale on eBay, etc.

As to how your number was compromised, it might have been any site (including physical brick and mortar) you used it at.

Also, some on-line sites have payment processors who pass card numbers fraudulently to "membership" scams, often through pop-ups offering "discounts" that appear to be from the merchant you thought you were buying from.

Not familiar with Canadian law, but in the U.S. you would block your card immediately by reporting the fraud to your credit card company, but you must dispute the fraudulent charges IN WRITING to the dispute address on your statement to invoke your FCBA dispute rights.

The written dispute must be received by your bank in less than 60 days from the statement date of the statement showing the disputed charges to preserve your FCBA dispute rights.  Failure of the credit card company to properly investigate results in their waiving the first $50 of the charges even if they are valid.

Contracts require an offer (disclosing terms), a meeting of the minds (common understanding of what is being agreed to by both parties), acceptance of the offer, and consideration (something of value is being exchanged), to create a binding contract.

"Hidden agreements" are just another name for fraud and theft.

If you hide your terms, only to assert them later, you are not making a binding contract, just engaging in a carefully planned fraud.

Close the account immediately due to fraud.  Send your dispute of the fraudulent charges to your bank's dispute address.  Follow up by filing a police complaint, and send a copy of the report with a fraud affidavit to your bank.  Also be aware that both VISA and MasterCard claim to have no liability for fraud policies, but be sure to dispute timely to assert them.

Don't let time slip, since that is the most likely reason your bank will turn down reversing the charges.

This just happened to my daughter.  They made a 10 cent chagre to something called Ayala and then 29.00 to 2CO.com.  Her bank is notified and will check for fraud.  If you see even a small charge like 10 cents beware.

This site should be closed down and sued for every cent they ever made plus interest and a $5,000,000.000 penalty fee, just for wrongful and misuse of the internet.

I had $356 stolen from my debit card from 2co.com. I have never even heard of this company nor have I ever signed up for anything online. I had $1,382.95 stolen from my debit card in 3 hours time. The bank told me that these companies steal your card number (usually through a virus or worm on your computer) and then sell it to other "sister" companies. 4 of the 10 charges were from this 2co.com the other 6 were from different companies all taken in a 3 hours span from 3am to 6am. My bank account is FDIC insured so I get my money back however the bank said because whoever stole my money already got it out of my account they'll just get to keep it and that no one will be going after them because internet fraud is too large and there is not enough man power. I check my online bank account every day but this happened early on a Saturday morning so the charges didn't show up until Monday morning. I was advised by the bank to use a credit card when shopping online rather than my debit card. From now on I will use my credit card instead and then instantly pay the amount I just charged to avoid any interest charges. We also tried to get a hold of this company and were unable to get through to anyone.

Me too. Who the hell is this 2co.com and I also got charges from easyjet.com, abercrombiekent.com. I have contacted all of these companies and am trying to track this down. I own an Online PR agency, Agent-cy and will now go to work on finding out what is going on and exploiting this issue until resolved!

    GoodNeighbor
Dear Beth - Your post indicated that your Customer Care Department can be reached at the toll free number: 1-877-294-0273, 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Well, Beth, you FILTHY, LYING SACK OF SLUGS!!! I just called that number and got a message saying that your business hours are ACTUALLY 8am to 9pm, Monday through Friday, and 9am to 6pm on Saturday, Eastern Standard Time!!! (J/K about the "filthy lying sack of slugs" comment; just messin' with ya. I do understand that operating hours change from time-to-time and that 2CO's business hours have obviously changed since the time you posted your comment.) Seriously though, I have a 2CO charge on my credit card statement, in the amount of $15.95, which I believe was for something I bought on ebay and used PayPal, but which was actually transacted through 2CO. It was several months ago and I wonder if there might be some way for companies like 2CO to have transactions appear on the customer's statement, with a description of something more indicative, e.g. "2CO-ebay Item #(etc)" instead of just "2CO"? I'm sure it would eliminate the vast majority of complaints & inquiries received by companies like 2CO! Maybe it's not possible...just a suggestion. Thank you!

Twice this greedy company took $$ from me. I complained the first time to my bank and even sent in a dispute form and the money was put back in. Then (later)I checked my account again, the same amount was taken but the information said "Effective earlier in the month" .. SO WHAT THE HECK IS THIS 2CO.COM?? I never liked playing tug of war because I didn't want to get rope burns. And if you are a genuine company as I suppose you are how come most 2/3rds of us complaining have never heard of you?

My AMEX statement showed two charges from 2Co.Com 1) $16.50 4/10/11  then again 2) $16.50 4/16.  The $16.50 was related to online magazine I had order through a company called "Magazinenook.com" on 4/8/11.  However, I only order once and never did get the magazine now that it's almost 2 months later.

Called AMEX to complained and they did the following: 1) charge back the two $16.50 to 2Co.Com  and 2) credit me back the two debit.  In addition, AMEX will place a Hold on this company for 4 years from future billing.  I also requested AMEX to give me a new card.

You all need to have your cards shut down. 2co.com as well as paypal 1.00 apl 1.00 yahoo wallet 1.00 are all known test sites for when fraudsters get card numbers. I advise you to shut down the cards. If you have to, tell your bank the card was lost if they don't want to do it. Also, if they are giving you this much trouble, switch banks. I do this for a living and those are test sites commonly used. Also, just because they credit you the money back, doesn't mean they fixed the problem if they do not give you a card with a new 16 digit number; they have merely put a bandaid over a nicked artery. Don't let the fraudster bleed you dry.
