Please stop the $40.00 monthly charges from my Bank of America Credit card. I have not signed a written agreement with the company. Please cancel the account. I want my payment in March and April 2008 refunded to me.
I already reported to Bank of America about this unauthorized charges.

I have exactly the same problem; moreover - the same months - March and April. I also reported to the Bank of America but they "are not authorized to
cancel the membership for you, and cannot credit the above-referenced
account for charges made before your cancellation date.

To prevent future charges, please write or call the merchant directly to
cancel your membership and request credit(s)"
I don't even know what company it is and where to cancel my membership that I never authorzed.

I called 800-251-2617, the number listed on my BoA creditcard statement. This is an accidental life insurance policy offered through Bank of America.  They say I authorized the insurance for my wife and myself at $20 a person per month, which I don't remember doing.  Anyway I had no problem canceling the policy.  It took about 2 minutes.

I have been trying since February to get the charges to smartstep removed from my statements.  I have sent a certified letter tell them that this is a totally unauthorized charge....etc etc ....I have rec'd the run around.  Instead of taking this charge off, they took off everything else on my latest statement....all of which were authorized!!!!!  Who do I contact to get this taken care of?!!!

I just recently became the victim of Smart Step. I received a courtesy call about 3 months ago from Smart Step Insurance. They claimed that they were partnered with Bank of America and offered me a 3 month trial period with them in return with my banking at BoA. They said that I could cancel anytime before October of 2008 and I wouldn't be billed. They told me that a package would be mailed to me and to call the number that was listed in the mail to cancel the insurance if I chose to. So I agreed, thinking nothing of it because the representative I talked to said I could cancel anytime before October and I wouldn't get charged. When the package came, there was NO number to cancel and now that it is October, $20.00 has been deducted from my checking account. I have been trying to find the number to cancel the insurance with no luck. They have to be affliated with Bank of America because in no way during the conversation did I give out my bank account number. Thankfully, I caught on to it during the early stages though with the help of all the postings on the internet. I have just submitted this information to my local newstation in Houston and hopefully they do an investigation on them because it seems to me that more than a handful of people have been scammed into this including me. If anyone can get a contact number for me and the steps of getting it cancelled, I would greatly appreciate it.

I immediately wrote to the address at the top of the informational materials that came in the mail and my credit card was still billed. I was just told that the phone number (said quickly by the representative whom I spoke with) was the only contact for cancellation and that my letter to the insurance company did not constitute a cancellation notice. I disputed that with the phone representative and was told that someone would "look into it."  They make it so difficult to find cancellation information on the materials they send out that this surely is a scam.

Please take it up with Smartstep at once. Insist on the cancellation number. Dispute your credit card transactions and take a number for the cancellations also. My case went the same way but so badly messed up that now my credit has beenb ruined. This needs immediate attention

I just noticed an unauthorized charge of $40 to my checking account by Smartstep. My wife was contacted by them over 2 months ago and she denied the service. Apparently they signed us up anyway.
I contacted BofA, they tried to give me a number for Smartstep to resolve the situation with them. I refused the number, stating I was not going to deal with Smartstep, and insisted BofA cancel my membership and refund my money or I was going to file a lawsuit. My membership is canceled and my money refunded.
If BofA claims they could do nothing, its a lie! They are an affiliate of SmartStep, and have complete control of your account.
I am going to be reporting SmartStep and BofA to the BetterBusinessBureau, and I urge others to do the same. This is pure Fraud and it cannot continue! I will also be contacting a lawyer on this matter. Its only $40, but I feel it was unlawfully deducted, which in my mind is basically stealing.

Exactly same thing happened to me.

My wife was contacted by them about less than a month ago by Smart Step Insurance. At that time she said YES to the trail but before the trail ended she called them up to cancel it. Once she called, they couldn't locate her information in their database and was told that she wouldn't get charged.

After two three weeks I see a charge of $40 from my checking account. I immediately contacted BoA and had BoA call Smart Step for a conference call. Long story short, they did canceled the membership and hopefully will get the money back in a week or two.

I'm glad I have a habit of checking my account regularly.

Greg, thank you, I'll definitely give BBB a call.

    Good for you Greg!
How many months did you you get scammed for? I've been paying $40 bucks amonth for more than 15 months and BofA gave me some [***] answer that they were only liable for 2 months and would be crediting my account for the 2 month period while they "investigate" the situation AND that I would have to contact SmartStep @ 866-687-6278. I called that # and spoke with a gal named Kayla Hall who informed me that she had received many of the same calls and that she was not with the same organization as Smart Step Insurance! BofA is giving me the run around!

    People,

Listen to Greg, contact BBB to resolve the matter.

I called Smart Step Insurance to take care of the fraudulent charge but they refused to refund the money. I called them again and got same results.

Than I went to BBB and they solved my issue in 2 days.

Ask for a recording of the conversation.  Whether you want to admit it here or not, you did enroll and all of the enrollments are recorded.  They will gladly send you a cd and you can listen to yourself accept the insurance...

I have the same situation, i went to BoA and asked them about the problem, but they kept answer that they don't know about it and want me to call BoA Solution department. Smart Step Insurance charges me $20 per month. I have talk directly online with the BoA representative, that person said he would solve the problem and refund the money, but i haven't seen any happen since that day. I will call the Smart Step Insurance, but i don't know how to get my money back. Can anyone show me how? Thank you very much.

In the same boat, have been getting $40.00 taken out every month and nothing to support what for, or any kind of monthly statements or quarterly, or annual statements. Which is odd. I have called Smart Step, and they said they  would send over all information, as to what I apparently agreed to over 2 years ago..needless to say my wife is pissed.  Has anybody actually received money back? and from who!!
