I have a top-loader and the lid started to rust after 3 years. The problem is so bad now that my clothes are getting ruined.  Like other people, I got nowhere with customer service because the problem was beyond the 1 year warranty. They wanted me to buy a new lid and pay for the service call. It seems that the materials used on a washing machine are defective if they are prone to rust. Won't buy Whirlpool again!

      Whirlpool will not take responsibility, my machine is 5 years old

    I have found these washers to be a piece of junk. Rusty lid. Sounds like a grinding machine washing and tears my towels all to pieces. Sometimes uses gallons water sometimes a quart. Hate it!!!!!!

    Our lid is rusty and ruining clothes too. Worst machine ever. Doesn't even rinse all of the soap out.

    have serious rust at bleach dispenser.  removed the top and found more rust. an obvious flaw in the production process with not enough porcelin covering the metal.  never had rust in a washer before and some were 30 years old.  Don't buy this product.  Whirlpool doesn't stand by it if over one year old.

    usted and now detached from the washer. It's just a matter of time before it stops working. I'm a lifetime whirlpool user that will switch to another brand for my next purchase.

    This washer is the worst piece of junk I have ever encountered. I have to wash everything in quick wash or delicate so I can adjust the spin speed. Otherwise it leaves the clothes a twisted mess and does not get the soap out. The hinge on the lid broke because of the rust near the bleach dispenser. The lid doesn’t seem that heavy until the hinge breaks and hits you in the head. The rust, nothing you can do to stop it, I don’t care what solutions they offer. Ruined so many clothes. I will never buy another appliance from this company.

    Bottom of my machine rusted all the way around..... lid almost rusted through... only 4 years old... paid a lot of money for a piece of garbage.  Tried several times to remove rust and paint but just comes back.... very dissapointed.... garbage

    my machine is 3.5 yrs old and the body is rusting just below the bleach dispenser.  It is chipping off- i waited 18 years for this too!  No more Whirlpool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      I have the same issue.  It is bubbling and has not chipped but it is only a matter of time.  I also have a Whirlpool hot water heater that we purchased a 9-year warranty with it.  We called for warranty service earlier this year at under 6 years.   We must pay a plumber to come out and certify the problem is the hot water heater.  Rusty water is coming out of it near the top.  After calling several plumbers who say they are not willing to come out (even with a service fee) we gave up.  NEVER buying another Whirlpool product.

    Yes my to is rusting the sides rusted before it was 1years old that is the washer and dryer they replaced the cover on both and guess what now they are rusting again the top ,sides in the lint filter. the inside  all the coating is coming off and it looks like it brunt this is a mess I have a 3 year warranty at best buy but guess what it doesn't cover the rust I dont know what to do .

    Well, everyone should band together, start a facebook page and see how many people are experiencing this same issue.  Maybe if there is enough, start a class action lawsuit or another legal action against whirlpool.  The other, and more effective option is vote with your purse/wallet and never buy a whirlpool made product again! Put them out and show them that we will not stand for BS.   Every time you go out and buy an appliance, make sure you find out who is the manufacturer, not just by the branding on the front.  If it is whirlpool, steer clear!

      Ours is completely rusted through under and all around the bleach dispenser. Very frustrating. Now the lid won’t stay up. Are there enough of us to start a class action law suit?

        Same problem rusting at the bleach Dispenser some thing has to be done .obviously this is a problem with  Whirl pool but they won’t do anything about it it.I would love to see your class action lawsuit against them for all of them as they have Caused.

      yes please , i  think a class action would be appropriate especially since this is obviously a defect and they should have recalled these machines a long time ago.

      I am I. For a class action lawsuit.  They sold us a lemon.  The only fix is new non cabrio appliances.

      Is there a class action lawsuit? Same issue with our washer with the rust around the bleach dispenser/door hinge. Every time we open it, see are scared it is going to snap off. Tried wd-40 and didn't do a thing. The rust has also caused the lid to not close completely so we have to weight it down with full detergent bottles, etc.
      It is now about 10 years old but this started around 6-7 years old. For the $$$ paid, this is unacceptable and they would have to acknowledge their design flaws.  Never again will we buy a whirlpool product. Our dishwasher is Whirlpool Gold and an even bigger piece of junk than the washer and broke even quicker. They were bought around the same time!
