I have a top-loader and the lid started to rust after 3 years. The problem is so bad now that my clothes are getting ruined.  Like other people, I got nowhere with customer service because the problem was beyond the 1 year warranty. They wanted me to buy a new lid and pay for the service call. It seems that the materials used on a washing machine are defective if they are prone to rust. Won't buy Whirlpool again!

    Whirlpool Cabrio top load washer. After only 4 years, rust and chipping paint developed inside the top area of my washer. Causing rust on my clothes.

    My cabrio is 11 years old. Kid is very rusty. I have ever had a washing machine  rust.  It now has a musty smell. I have cleaned every thing I can reach. Im worried the bottom  will rust and leak. I hate this machine. It doesn’t use enough water. Going back to an agitator toploader. My clothes were always clean with them. Won’t be this brand.

    Yep, have the rusting lid and inside of the rim too.  About 3 years old.  Means that rust prevention coating is not being used.  Miss the agitator days.

    We've had ours for 8 months and it's also rusting underneath and around the dispensers.  Anyone hear back from Whirlpool on this issue?

    Whirlpool wants me to pay a $98. Service call fee for a tech to come look at the rust on all the dispensers. I will never buy a Whirlpool again. Customer service does not care. Do not buy,

    Yeap! I'm having the same problem and will definitely never buy a whirlpool product again.  Pure junk.

    Ugh I HATE this stupid machine! It’s rusting, it smells AWFUL and doesn’t clean a damn thing! The smell is killing me, my washer and dryer are in a laundry closet that’s just behind my front door so when someone walks in they get hit with this god awful stench! Shirts don’t get cleaned at all, you can still smell deodorant on the underarms and they are stiff. Clothes get shredded. Clothes get tangled up and I spend more time untying knots than anyone should have to. The cabrio is a piece of over priced junk!!! I’m fuming about the rust though, before this machine I had my mother’s washer she had for 20 plus years, it worked beautifully for another 10 years and then it broke down and we figured hey, let’s get a new one. I regret it every day. I’ve had these machines for 6 years and have had nothing but problems.

    The lid is rusted! I can’t believe have to buy a new one after five years if I want to save my clothes.

    Along with many others, I have rust problem around dispensers and on lid in 3 yr old washer.  Can find no information about what is covered in extended warranty.  Thought I did my due diligence before I bought.  Will not buy this brand again.

    Lid is rusting badly after 3 years as well as the dispenser and lock. Had to replace tub and motor last rear as well. Thank god for the extended warranty, Piece of junk. Will never buy whirlpool again.

    I contacted Whirlpool even before the 1 year period.  I was told that they consider this "cosmetic" and is not covered  Now 5 years later it is completely rusted through.  I sent an email to a class action attorney.  I don't know the process or if there would even be enough interest for a lawsuit.     I also have significant rusting around dispensers, lid hinge areas and all the way around the inside metal rim in my top loader Cabrio with the agitator.  This washer also  has  ruined many towels and items by shredding.  I’ve never had problems with a washer before and am so dissatisfied with this product!  I  will never buy a Whirlpool washer again.

    Same issue, cabrio platinum 5 years old underside of lid and top inside machine rusting and paint chips falling into laundry.

    Please inform us of the class action lawsuit.  Have a whirlpool cabrio with the small agitator, kept it up but has rust around bleach cup area.  Sears and whirlpool won’t repair since it is ‘cosmetic’ only.

    Yep, our whirlpool Cabrio started rusting on the lid about 2-3 years after purchase, cleaned it up and repainted, now the bottom side of the upper rim is rusting, not sure what engineer thought this would last with  obvious poor paint adhesion/coverage. will not buy another whirlpool.

    Same problem as already shared.  My Whirlpool cabrio washing machinet is rusting badly under the bleach dispenser.  I took the lid off and treated the rusted area with Ospho (a rust stop liquid for preparing rusted surfaces for painting):after carefully sanding and removing the rust from the metal.  Then painted several coats of Rust-oleum paint.  Took an entire week to do all these steps.  It looked great, but 2 years later the rust has returned and continues to get worse.  No more Whirlpool products!

    Same as everyone else, we bought ours in 2011, and after about 2 years it started rusting under the bleach dispenser and around the inside of the rim.
