Receiving calls to lower my interest rate on credit cards

I received a call ths morning at 10:40am from 469-544-0742, with a recorded voice telling me that I needed to act now to save money on my credit cards or the offer would expire.  Then I was given an option to press a number to be connected with a live operator and the option to press another number to stop receiving any more "notifications".  I pressed to speak to the "operator" to ask why they're calling me since I am on the Do Not Call list and I don't even have credit cards.  He immediately hung up on me.

I tried to call the number back and learned that it was obviously a spoofed caller ID, the number I tried was disconnected.  This is the third call in just a couple of months like this, each with a different number that is not working.

It's a telemarketer offering "to lower your interest rates". They have a discussion here https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-469-544-0742

Sounds just like the calls from 208-864-5339.  I think they are just trying to get your credit card number - it's obviously bogus, but I cannot get them to stop calling either.  Check out my complaint.

I have been getting calls from this number for the past 2 weeks.  My caller ID says it is a cell phone in Texas.  They do not leave any message so I just ignore them.  The caller ID display is one of the best features of my phone.  Now unless I know who it is I just do not answer at all.  Screw them.  Either they leave a message for me to respond to or I just ignore them totally.  Maybe I am missing out on a great deal that will save me a ton on credit card interest.  I will take that chance.

Does anyone know how to get them to stop?  I have gotten several calls and pressed '1' to speak to an operator to find out who they are and to get them to stop calling me.  Either they hang up on me immediately, or they argue with me for a bit, not telling me any good info, then hang up.  I am on the do not call registry - but they keep calling me!!!  The most recent call was this morning from an 850 number in Florida.

I just received my first call last night (it was an 850 number) and I was concerned since they told me it was for any Visa or MC.  Maybe if they actually mentioned which CC it was for, I would've thought it was legit.  I'm sure it's just a scam to get your #s.  I told them no thanks after I asked them which card and that's what they said.  She didn't even hassle me and I just hung up.  I hope I don't continue to get calls now.

I've been getting several calls a day at times. I get hung up on and have been told they cannot take me off their call list. the last time i played along as though I was Interested and said I won't give my info out until i know who I'm dealing with. I was told they're Account Services in New York but they wouldn't give me their phone number. I told the woman I've been getting numerous calls and she responded that there are about 40 companies out there doing this. I guess they all have the exact same pre-recorded message. When I told her I don't have a card balance she got a little miffed ahahahaha!

i called my credit card company about the calls that i was getting, and they told me that they don't employ anyone in that capacity. therefore i took out identify theft protection with the company.  the next time i get one of these calls, i intend to tell them yes i'm interested and play along with them and then say oh by the way you won't be getting my # anytime soon and my identity is very well protected.T3B

I keep getting the same call and they hang up on me when I try to tell them to take me off there calling list. I've decided the next time I go shopping I am going to buy a whistle and as soon as the 'live agent' speaks, I'm going to let them have it! I bet I will only have to do that once or twice before they take me off their list. I'll repost with the results.

i no  someone who work for the company and i think they do actually save you money but the way they go about advertising is illegal. Thats why they are not able to give you the company name. i was told if you are on the do not call list the company can actually get sued if they report you.

whats the name of the company if you know someone that works for these people.  If you know then you should tell all these people that are trying to get this stopped and thats all they need is the very name of this organization to stopp it

I have been receiving the same call and I don't think this is a legitimate company because the first time I asked him what name was on the card. He said he could tell me if I gave him the number on the card. I refused and he hung up. I think it is a scam but I like the whistle idea. My husband used to referee basketball and his whistle is very loud. I used that one time when I was getting crank calls and they stopped. Thanks for the idea, izofblu.

I just got a call too and pressed 9 to speak to a live person.  Told him that I know this was just a scam and to not call me again.  He asked me how I knew it was a scam and I told him I wasn't stupid.  I asked what the company name was and he told me it was "Visa".  Sure, it was.  Then he asked if I was more than $3,000 in debt and I told him I didn't have anything on my Visa cards.  He thanked me and hung up.

I believe this is from consolidated credit, based in texas. They are not a scam per sey, but they are unsrupulous. Not illeagal, though it should be. their operators regularly lie or mislead you. And really there is nothing you can do about it.

I am SO sick of these credit card scam calls.  It seems to me that phone networks can be hardened with software to block spoofed numbers.  For that matter, I would like to see the practice of caller ID hiding stopped by phone companies.  I realize international calls may have an issue with the latter, but I know of legitimate U.S. companies who when calling my business line show up as "Unknown," "Restricted," or "01."  I think such calls should just not go through at all.  I know hidden calls can be blocked by the recipient, but I would rather see the calls stopped at the network level.  Basically, if the originating # cannot be verified by some reverse-route lookup, they will just get disconnected, and the point of origin (if domestic to U.S.) be reported to law enforcement.  No more anonymous calling, period!
