Just got my call... Company named N.A.R. arbitration is trying to collect for a loan from SJM Marketing. I owe $300... I took down her name, phone number and extension. They can't send any paperwork with details to the loan, but they can transfer me to SJM to make a payment. yeah okay...

They called from a local number too (407) 499-0269 ... but then gave me the 844-248-6968 ext 4004... Ms. Patty Jones. I'm kinda glad information is at our fingertips...

    BBB information
    http://www.bbb.org/north-east-florida/busines ... le-fl-50958746/

Supposedly, they were in the "payday loan" business back in 2008, but are now out of business, with mail returned undeliverable.  A string of "debt collection" complaints started about a  year ago, with a BBB complaint showing the same scam profile as above.

My husband has been receiving phone calls from these people as well. They have a lot of information on him. When I call, the information they gave me was totally different from what they gave him when he called. They keep saying that they are going to take us to court and everything. They have called everyone in his family. How can we make this stop????

      It's a shakedown scam.. replies to T
These scammers find some id information, and try to use it in a con.  They call family members to harass and create embarrassment.  Just tell them you are recording the call while the FBI traces it.

These people are still at it.  I have received calls all week at my work number.  They have my correct ssn but other information is sketchy.  They fish for information so when they recite the information they have, I don't acknowledge the accuracy or deny.  I will be submitting an alert to all three credit bureaus.

Any clues about the source.. replies to Diane
      of their information.

Some complaints report these calls start after applying online for a "payday loan", indicating that some of those sites are so sleazy they sell info to scammers (as if there are legitimate payday lenders?), or that they may use fake "loan" sites to get information.

Other sources might be online court documents which fail to redact id information, or maybe databreaches.  They don't appear sophisticated enough to hack themselves.

When you submit a credit alert to a credit bureau, they will notify the others.   In addition, that entitles you to a free credit report (separate from the free annual credit report mandated by federal law).

Just received a phone call from them stating they was from UAC l. But calling on behalf of SJM regarding a payday loan i took out for $300 in 2008. They had only the last 4 of my social and a address where i never lived. I asked them to send me information in the mail they couldn't  send me any or give me contact information for SJM. First they said i owe $300 and when someone else got on the phone they said i owe $390. I never took out a payday loan in 2008.

I been receiving calls the past week, they have been using local #s and they have also harassed my kids. When they leave a message they give a reference # and an 844-695-9265. I called this morning their company is ULM & Associates representing SJM Marketing. They said I owe money from a loan I supposingly defaulted on back in January 2011. They had the last 4 of my social and an address I lived at over 8 years ago. They tried to get me to give them my full social and current address, I told them if they had info on me they should know it. The person I spoke with was Marcie Randalls, she told me I owed $755 and how I would like to pay, I told her I wouldn't. She then said if I don't pay the legal actions will be taken. I told her I had an attorney and asked for her fax # she gave me 954-449-6387, I checked online the # is bogus.
These people need to get a life and stop preying on people who are working hard to support their family.

this just happened to me. direct recovery called. a lady named Melissa said I owed over 800:00 for a loan taken out in april of 2011, while in the employment of a company in va. I told her I hadn't been employed at that company since 2010, nor had I even lived in va since 2010. she told me I have to write a letter of dispute, which I just did. wth???

      Tell them.. replies to brenda
to send you an FDCPA 1692g notification letter.
Legitimate collection agencies will just do it anyway, since FDCPA requires it.
Fakes will tell you they "sent it 45 days ago", that they're "not a debt collector so we don't have to follow FDCPA", or just become more huffy, abusive, and threatening.
