letter scam

Received a letter from Cardmember Service (P.O. Box 6355, Fargo, ND 58125-6355) that is an obvious scam. It is the same outfit responsible for the illegal "Rachel" & "FBI" robo calls.
DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS LETTER. Report it to the U.S. Postal Inspectors (877-876-2455). They are well aware of this scam and the more letters they get the better their case will be when they nail these guys.
If you call them, they can then say you contacted them and they are now free to call you whenever they want. These guys are true scum.

REAKED of fraud! So I looked it up on the Internet and was surprised to see this has been happening for such a long time. I will report it.

I called the 800# and asked what Visa company this was. She said Elan Financial Services and they did transactions for many bank branches. She asked my name but said I was NOT in their system. She asked which card I was calling about, I said X card (knowing full well that is a local one and isn't platinum). She said they did not have business with them and apologized, saying there wasn't much else she could offer. She said maybe she could find something with my phone number. I did give that, and she pulled up a card, miraculously it WAS that bank, saying it was older, gave me the year and that was probable! She asked if I could verify my birthdate and I refused. I think even though she was American it was a fishing expedition to put pieces together.
I think they have old card info and can easily get new addresses using credit checks, then they just need the missing pieces. I then phoned that company's card (different) 800# and they verified that Elan was NOT connected to them, nor was the Fargo address, nor phone number. She suggested I call the bank in the morning and have them put a note on my account for alerts if any attempts to open another account happen.
