Hi... I purchased whirlpool gold stainless steel (not stainless steel like) refrigerator from Lowe's last year December for my remodeled kitchen. Recently, I observed rust marks on the doors of my refrigerator. I called Lowe's and they sent in a tech to assess it. The tech said that it's cosmetic damage and they cannot replace the door under the warranty. He also informed me that they get many complaints like these (rust on stainless steel) for whirlpool products. I also spoke with a whirlpool customer representative and she also said it is considered a cosmetic damage. She told me that it happens because of the environment the refrigerator is kept in. During the same time last year, I also purchased other things such as oven, dishwasher and microwave but from different companies and they are perfectly alright (and that too in the same environment). The rep also told me that whirlpool never uses pure stainless steel for its products. IT'S SHOCKING!!! They are selling the products under false promise. I don't understand how can a stainless steel product get rusty? Any comments? Thanks.

Whirlpool Stainless Steel Appliances-BUYER BEWARE!!!  Rust will appear on the supposed stainless steel in under 2 years.  It can NOT be removed and is spreading and now covers over 1/3 of the surface.  Whirlpool will not do anything to resolve issue.  DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL STAINLESS STEEL APPLIANCES!!

I am having the same problem. In addition, my fridge has scratches all over it.  Looks terrible and extremely frustrating.

I also bought the gold series whirlpool appliances for our new house, with the same problem.  Appliances installed in July 2013.  Rust all over refrigerator, small amount on dishwasher.  Last whirlpool appliance I'll ever buy and can't believe I paid extra for their gold series.  I'll be calling and checking out the web site too.

I've just experienced the same trouble with my hob model AKM 297 IX: after only one year the "steel" surface is full of rust! Unbelievable! No support from Whirlpool off curse! What can I do? I only suggest you do not buy Whirlpool steel products!

I also purchased a KitchenAid (AKA Whirlpool) stainless steel fridge and range in November 2015. The first red flag was when the top of the range discolored - it was weeks and weeks of calls to customer service, multiple useless service calls, and arguing with agents before they agreed to replace the front panel - argued that it was my fault and it was cosmetic.  Fast forward to 7 months later and the front of my fridge is rusting. This is nonsense - I'm reading the same thing over and over on this forum but not reading anything about outcome. What is everyone doing? Living with it? The items were so costly - over 4k for the pair. I'm finding it difficult to sit back and watch this happen. Any ideas?

I am so sorry I didn't see these comments before buying a Whirlpool refrigerator.  The door on mine rusted in the first two months and I tried to clean it and then reported it at four months.  They have said the same thing - it is cosmetic and not covered by the warranty.  I can't believe they are still selling these.   I will also call the litigation site and will post comments on Lowes site where I bought it.

Aghgh! Rust all over the bottom freezer drawer of Whirlpool Gold fridge. 18 months old...called Whirlpool: not covered by extended warranty (that I had). Was told this was not a typical "concern" and I let them know about all of these comments. Purchased Whirlpool Gold Series dishwasher/stove and microwave at the same time. Just waiting for them to rust as well.

Just purchased the whole Whirlpool suite of stainless steel products in May and June. Today I see the rust spots coming through on the dishwasher we bought from Lowes. Maybe once you peel the protective layer off it's only a matter of time. Very peeved.

I am having the same prob. it's the least they could do is give you a bottle to clean it with so it's basically making you aware it happens...

I purchase my Whirlpool stainless steel refrigerator less than five months ago and the French doors and freezer door are all three rusting ... I called you see if I could have them replaced they told me that the product I used to clean them voided the warranty so there was nothing they could do to help me...  Again these have been in my house less than 5 months ... Is there anyone I can contact to help me with this or does anyone know how to get the rust spot off ?

This seems to be a quality issue with the Whirlpool refrigerator, mine is white and the doors are also rustingthrough the door. I bought it at Sears 2014. Sears do not accept to paint or change the doors, they pretent that I must buy a new equipment the consumer deparment of the PR goverment (DACO) is working the case, be advise how this end and also how this affect the credibility of yours products and Whirpool name.

I bought my Whirlpool French Door Stainless Steel refrigerator in July 2016.   Now in December 2016---Less than 6 months!!   I have rust all over the entire front door.   My other new Whirlpool SS appliances are fine.    Anybody have suggestions.   Is the Consumer litigation Group still active--anyone know?

Whirlpool refrigerator 3 years old, with rust spots and have had to replace cheap plastic door handles which broke three times in three years.  I am only member of houehold and take great care of things. Whirlpool stated door handles are cosmetic issue and they could do nothing to help.  Being able to open the refrigerator is considered cosmetic?  Ridiculous. Will never purchase Whirlpool again.  Refrigerator was a rip off.  Made of cheap parts with cheap finish, which I had to pay more for because It was "Stainless Steel."  Consumer Protection is next.
