Hi... I purchased whirlpool gold stainless steel (not stainless steel like) refrigerator from Lowe's last year December for my remodeled kitchen. Recently, I observed rust marks on the doors of my refrigerator. I called Lowe's and they sent in a tech to assess it. The tech said that it's cosmetic damage and they cannot replace the door under the warranty. He also informed me that they get many complaints like these (rust on stainless steel) for whirlpool products. I also spoke with a whirlpool customer representative and she also said it is considered a cosmetic damage. She told me that it happens because of the environment the refrigerator is kept in. During the same time last year, I also purchased other things such as oven, dishwasher and microwave but from different companies and they are perfectly alright (and that too in the same environment). The rep also told me that whirlpool never uses pure stainless steel for its products. IT'S SHOCKING!!! They are selling the products under false promise. I don't understand how can a stainless steel product get rusty? Any comments? Thanks.

I am also having the same problem.  After only 7 days with a brand new Whirlpool Gold Series French door refrigerator rust spots started to appear by the doors and bottom freezer.  How can Whirlpool call this cosmetic issue.  I am returning the product back to the store where I purchased it and exchange it for a different brand.  Go to any store and look closely at them and you will see the little rust spots on the floor models.  I should of have done that before buying this one.

Just purchased Whirlpool fridge and dishwasher (installed fridge at the end of December '16) and both have rust spots, the fridge moreso than the dishwasher.  I purchased them from HomeDepot and I will be contacting them along with Whirlpool. I am extremely disappointed!

Does anyone know what grade the stainless steel that is used (eg. 304, 316L)?

This seems to be a common problem with Whirlpool products.  Same thing is happing to my frig which is only a year old.  I have no problem with my Frigidaire dishwasher.

Same story. They sent us a bottle of worthless polish. I bought a better stainless steel cleaner from the store. Our products are only weeks old. The service man came today and said he did not think anything would be done. If they do not fix this issue I am going to the state consumer protection agency . Both refrigerator and stove are rusting just waiting for the Micro wave next. AMERICAN MADE wow were we taken or what. If they do not fix this I will go on Facebook and make a fuss . I don't know if it will help but we must let everyone know not to buy these faulty products.

Same thing happened to me after only 2 years the refrigerator has rust spots and Whirlpool said that they can not do anything about this. It is not covered on my 5 year Warranty. And to make matters worse Home Depot knows about this and they are still selling them.

I purchased a Whirlpool French door stainless steel refrigerator in Oct 2015 and I am having rust spots appearing on my doors. I have a 5 year warranty but the doors are not covered on the 5 year warranty..
I called Whirlpool and they said that they are sorry that this happened  BUT there is nothing they can do about it.
Never buy a Whirlpool product they do not stand by there stainless steel products. One unhappy customer and I see there are many.

Unbelievable!  My 1 year old Whirlpool stainless steel refrigerator doors are showing rust.  I cleaned with wipes made for stainless steel, which did not help.  My two other appliances (made by another company) are fine!  Cheap garbage is being produced!  I will be notifying Whirlpool and the BBB.

I just finished cleaning both door and drawer on my Whirlpool Refrigerator - I had done this before and cleaned it - but to have this happen again and so much rust covering almost the entire drawer - WHAT GIVES!  I bought all Whirlpool produts 4 years ago at Home Depot - nothing to do with them - they didn't make the fridge.  Had spots on my Dishwasher as well.

Stainless "steal your money"...called whirlpool customer (no) service and they make up every excuse in the book.  First the appliances only come with a 1 year warranty.  That doesn't say much for the confidence they have in their product.  We spent a lot of money to have our kitchen renovated and even more money to upgrade the appliances only for it to look horrible with a rusty refrigerator.  The manufacturer warranty is only 1 year and doesn't cover rust because they claim that is cosmetic.  Then they say it could rust if you live in a saltwater area.  Wrong, try again... Then they say if you mop your floors and the chemicals splash on the fridge, it could damage the fridge, that's a pretty desperate not to take fault in their defective products.  Ths rust on my fridge is on the front of both doors above the handles and on the top of the side of the doors.  I live in the mountains, so no salt water and there is no way my mop could splash water that high.  Also and unfortunately, I purchased 3 other whirlpool appliances around the same time and none have rusted yet.  So clearly, the fridge is defective.  The fridge isn't even 3 years old and now I will have to waste money to fix it or buy a new one.   I was told whirlpool specifically excludes rust from coverage under their warranty.  If I could make at least 1 person not buy whirlpool, I did my job.
