Hi... I purchased whirlpool gold stainless steel (not stainless steel like) refrigerator from Lowe's last year December for my remodeled kitchen. Recently, I observed rust marks on the doors of my refrigerator. I called Lowe's and they sent in a tech to assess it. The tech said that it's cosmetic damage and they cannot replace the door under the warranty. He also informed me that they get many complaints like these (rust on stainless steel) for whirlpool products. I also spoke with a whirlpool customer representative and she also said it is considered a cosmetic damage. She told me that it happens because of the environment the refrigerator is kept in. During the same time last year, I also purchased other things such as oven, dishwasher and microwave but from different companies and they are perfectly alright (and that too in the same environment). The rep also told me that whirlpool never uses pure stainless steel for its products. IT'S SHOCKING!!! They are selling the products under false promise. I don't understand how can a stainless steel product get rusty? Any comments? Thanks.

I am having the same issue with my Whirlpool refrigerator. Rust started within 3 months of purchase. I called Lowes and got no help from them. They instead referred me to Whirlpool. The representative seemed surprised at my complaint. The only help they offered was to send me a bottle of a product they have to remove the rust. I don't think it will work since the rust does not seem to be just surface rust. The product needs to be applied monthly. Other stainless steel products in my kitchen are not having this problem.

These experiences mirror my own plus Whirlpool told me I would need to pay a technician $100 to come look at the rust and I’d lose the $100 if it isn’t determined to be a Whirlpool error.   As we’ve all experienced, it’s never a Whirlpool error. I’ve been told by a professional in the field that Whirlpool adds Nickel to the stainless steel and that it oxidizes and that is what we are seeing. You think a company would fix a problem like this when their reputation is at stake. Shame on you Whirlpool!

We also have a whirlpool refrigerator that is about 2 years old and the doors are rusting. Very disappointed with Whirlpool. Will never buy their products again.

I bought my daughter a Whirlpool SS refrigerator 11/17.  It has rust on the top of the freezer drawer and a streak going down the front.   I called my extended warranty and they said no coverage.  Really?  I work for Lowes in the appliance department, I sell WP products all the time, actually recommend them.  I guess I will not recommend WP products in the future, it is their loss.............. I will be calling WP this week.

I purchased a Whirlpool SS refrigerator in August of 2017.  I noticed rust on the doors in January 2019.  I called Lowe's and of course it wasn't covered under by extended warranty.  So I called Whirlpool.  After a lengthy and heated discussion, they offered to pay for the replacement doors with me paying the labor.  I accepted because I had no choice.  So today I am sending a letter to Whirlpool Cooperate Headquarters because I had a lot of faith in Whirlpool products and just want them to know that that faith is gone.  I will never purchase another Whirlpool product.  I am also giving them the address of this website so that they can see how many people have had rust issues with their products.  I know that nothing will become of the complaint, but I just wanted to be heard.

I am shocked as to how many complaints there are about the rust on the Whirlpool "stainless steel" refrigerators. I too have rust on the doors and sides. This is not stainless steel. I have not contacted them yet. There must be something we can do. This is like fraud.

How has a law firm not JUMPED all over this rust issue. They likely save less than $50 by not using Non Magnetic stainless steel. But they completely false represent their appliances by calling them Stainless Steel. This is FRAUD! and its been going on for likely at least a decade? An Appliance rusting inside a climate controlled atmosphere . The automotive industry doesn't even get away with their products rusting within 3-12 years depending on the Manufacturer, and they are outside in all kinds of environments?

Mine is probably 4 years old. Lower freezer rusting. Upper door not as bad

My whirlpool Frig is 1 year old and full of rust pits and streaks.  The stainless is no good, other appliances from different mfg.ers are perfect and 5-10 years older.  Customer service says its cosmetic and does nothing. So if you want a rusty hulk in your kitchen get one, otherwise never ever buy this name.

Same thing with my Whirlpool stainless refrigerator!  Rust spots all over, as well as general smudges, even though I clean it with stainless cleaner only.  Wish I'd seen this before I purchased 5 months ago!
