Didn't order Playboy but receive invoices

I never ordered PlayBoy but recently received a threatening letter from Charles Martin. He threatened to send my account to collectors if I don't pay $14.68.  If this is an identity theft why did I receive the bill to my address. I assume this "Charles Martin" sends invoices using addresses from their subscribers database.

If anyone else has received similar letter, what did you do? I am not sure how to deal with this scam and I definitely don't want to be sent to collectors over $14.68....

The phone number for Playboy's subscriber service is 1-800-999-4438. Somebody already left this and I appreciate them leaving the number for Playboy subscriptions

Sending collection notices claiming earlier notices had been sent is a common deceptive debt collection tactic targetted at panicking consumers into paying without checking.

What, exactly, are these letters from Sunrise saying?

Since they are straddling the line between closing an order, and being a debt collector dunning for an unpaid account, they are subject to both:
    1)  USPS prohibitions against sending solicitations disguised as invoices, and
    2)  FDCPA requirements that letters from debt collectors MUST disclose that "this letter is from a debt collector and any information may be used to collect a debt", along with the "g" notice required in the first letter requiring that they indicate that if the consumer does not dispute, request verification, or the name of the original creditor within 30 days, the debt will be assumed to be valid.

They are treading a very slippery line which may leave them vulnerable to either FDCPA lawsuits or mail fraud charges.

File a complaint with the U.S. Postal Inspector, to document their sending an invoice for unordered merchandise through the U.S. Mail in violation of postal regulations.

I had the issue. I did call the number that has been provided by a couple of other posters. I spoke to a lady who promptly removed me without any trouble at all. Hopefully, they follow through with saying I'd receive nothing further. Good luck.

I have the same issue as a number of people as well - invoice received in mail for Playboy subscription for 15.96 due, however I have never authorized a subscription, and there is no contact phone number. Just a threatening invoice, requesitng payment (second one I have received).I will try to call the # Dan posted, and hopefully get this fixed.  Its so strange - wish that companies like this would get busted for fraudulent /unethical business practices, and stop harassing people - its obvious they are doing it to a lot of people.

I received the same scam from a "Tom Pesik".  Never got a single magazine in the mail, haven't had a subscription to playboy for over two years.  you would think they would disassociate themselves from such shady subscription practices, yet the fact that it still continues leads me to believe that Playboy is well aware of the scam and we are the somewhat intelligent, "acceptable losses".  Goodbye to a quality magazine with terrible business associations.

Had the same thing happen to me.  I did have a trial offer for Playboy, although I didn't subscribe for the whole year...Now I got an invoice from this Tom Pesik [***] that says I owe $15.56  or I'm in collections.  Horse [***]!  [***] magazine these days anyway!
