I got the same call from a man with a very thick Pakistani/Indian accent. They told me I had gotten approved for a grant of $8,500 and the reason for this is that each year the U.S Gov. Grant Dept. supposably selects 15,000 Americans who have not filed for bankruptcy in the last couple months and pay they're bills on time, which raised a red flag because I'm late on some bills. They asked wether I wanted it on a gift card or bank account, they gave me a grant approval # and call back # and told me to ask for Harry Ford, who then told me about a $180 donation through western union, and that he'd walk me through the process. After reading all these complaints it assured me that it was fraud, very similar stories.

These Indian [***] are full of [***]....they have been calling me from a 828 area code in NC which is in Hickory,NC and the guy got my information and told me to call his manager until I got him on the phone...I was given a approval code and told me I had to pay nothing...story changed once I got the manager on the phone...he started talking about a nominal one time fee of $250 to a charity....and that he would stay on the phone with me while everything is processing...well to make a long story short I kept asking questions and it was obvious he didn't like it so he then called me a "[***]" and hung up on me...I called back and told them I will be reporting the numbers to BBB...and you all should do the same!! I will be reporting (202) 697-9746 and the fake names given were "Edward Charles" and "William Christopher"

I just got same call from 202-570-6830 stated that I have been qualified for $7000 because  each year the U.S Gov. Grant Dept. supposably selects Americans who have not filed for bankruptcy in the last couple months and pay they're bills on time, yet I have not filed any bill in last 6 mounts :)), and  asked me to call his manager with 202-540-5982, he stated that all will be free. I already knew this is scam, but for improving my speaking in english ;D, I called him.
he told me for receiving this grants I should go to the nearest Walmart and bring my ID , cell phone and $280 for registration fee and asked me to  call him again after I received to the Walmart's Lot  , and I told him sure in couple of hours  , just wait for me ?!?! :)

I keep getting calls from a blocked number with a fast talking indian man telling me I have already been alotted this grant money. The first time, he said I just need a credit or debit card so thy can credit it, even a prepaid card like you would buy in the checkout line at Walmart (I took this to mean a prepaid VISA or AMEX bought from Walmart, not a Walmart gift card) and he offered to give me an hour to run and buy one. I considered that, since it would not be attached to my bank account or a credit account, but just never got to the store.

The reason he gave for me being awarded the grant was hat I pay my bills on time and have a clean criminal record.

Today he called again. He seemed really disappointed that I had lost my credit card last week and am waiting for a new one, meaning I could not give him a card number. He offered to take my bank account/routing number and deposit it but I claimed to have left my checkbook at home. He offered to call back and I have "missed" 4 calls since. But the calls come from blocked numbers!

When I said I was concerned about giving out my bank account information (especially since tomorrow is the day my direct deposited paycheck goes in) as he'd already obtained my phone number, mailing address, knows I am employed, and asked me my age, though not my date of birth, he told me not to worry since the call was being recorded. How would that protect ME if THEY were running a scam. It isn't like I had a copy of the recording or even their phone number.

It also seemed odd that he kept saying the government was awarding these grants to "citizens". He used the word "citizen" so often it stuck out. He did not say "Americans" or "taxpayers" or "residents"... just "citizens".

So did anything happen? Did they access your accounts or take anything? I'm curious because he asked me all the same questions.

Same thing happened to me just now.
Someone called me from an unknown number stating I was one of like 15k people selected by the government for some kind of grant. I would not have to pay back the 8.5k and was not accountable for taxes. They talked fast and was pushing for me to put out 200 bucks or so for a related fee. I didn't believe them from the jump but I played along for fun. I know that unless this was someone calling me for my lotto card, this ish was not real. Instant money from the government ...yea ok. Don't fall for this crap.

They just called me right now from 202-657-6746 saying that I only need $260 to get $8500 because of paying all my taxes and no bankruptcy history. Is very sad. Because now I'm in really need but thank you all for this complaints. And first of all. Everything that's too good to be true is a damn lie. I hope they catch them stealing to ppl in need. This is a shame.

I got the call today but thought I'd have some fun with them.  They said I was eligible for the grant because I had not filed bankruptcy and had a clean criminal record.  I told them that they were mistaken because I had recently been released from prison and was on parole for murder.  The woman didn't seem to know how to respond, so I went on to tell her that I had been convicted of murdering someone who tried to scam me out of money over the phone.  At this point, she hung up.  I'm thinking that maybe they will remove me from their list now.

I just got the same call from a "sharon smith". Got the same story and amount as everyone else. I immediately googled it and found this site. I will not be calling the number I was given and will start recording my calls. I was recently scammed on craigslist and think the two are connected.

These people are low life scan artists, I am currently going through a ruff time, the company I worked for closed down there local facility. Lost my job to no fault of my own. Times are tuff now, would love it to be true that the government I have paid a co side table amount of taxes to,was offering me such a grant! Even after TELLING this sob that I wanted some assurance this was not a scam, and that if I lost the "$250 registration fee" that would mean me not eating for the next week he kept on with his scam. what I would give for a few minutes alone in a room with these people,ugh...........!

I just got this same scam showing up with a 111-111-1111 number on my caller id.  The grant is for $8500.  The heavily accented talker said that I could use my bank or western union or money gram to get the money today.  I told them that I would use Western Union since there was no way I would give out my bank info, said that was fine.  The grant approval number and call back number were given to me.  the call back number 202-649-0252 traces bac to DC and a company that was bought out by AT&T a few years ago.  In order to receive a grant you have to apply for it.  DON'T fall for this scam folks.  I just wanted to play them  LOL  have a great day folks.
