My sister purchased a lift recliner made by Lazy Boy. She paid 1500.00 for this chair. When the chair goes back to the recline position, the foot rest does not come all the way up, so you are laying back with your legs going into a down position that makes you start sliding out of the chair. while I was there visiting her, I found this to be very uncomfortaable and asked her to call the store that she purchased it from. She did, and they called the manufacturer who sent out a repair man to fix the problem. He came out and said that this is a problem with all of the chairs and there was nothing that could be done with it. It is the way the chair is made. She tried out the demo model in the store and the leg rest went all the way up. He said that all of the chairs made now have the same problem!.
This is totally wrong. She is invalid and needs to get her legs up! Not sliding in a downward slope. It seems that Lazy boy should refund her money or fix the chair!

We purchased one of these chairs for my 94 year old mother in-law a couple of years ago and it has worked fine. However, a few weeks ago it became stuck in the reline position and we call the store it was purchased from for assistance. They sent out a repair person within a couple of days and they were very helpful. We were told that the motor sometimes needs to be "recycled" by pulling the plug out of the wall socket. Apparently, the person who comes in for cleaning disconnected the plug from the power unit while running the vacumn and that "confused" the motor's program. The tech did bring a replacement power unit with him, but it wasn't needed.

The worst service ever and a safety issue too. My mom was stuck for over 3 hours until help arrived to get her out. They WILL BE sued. NEVER BUY A CHAIR FROM LAZYBOY . they didn't care one bit about her, and worse, the parts are on back order $1700 piece of junk !! This is the second repair in less than 6 months... It's a safety issue that needs looking at by the states attorney general and I intend to do just that.

Lazy boy lift chair is a piece of crap. They use a .25 cent plastic gear in the motor on a $1700 dollar chair.
    What a crock.
    Never buy lazyboy.

We purchased 2 chairs for my Parents who were at the time 86 and 92 they have had issues but all things that could be fixed they were partially covered by Medicare. The one chair is going up and down but the heat and the vibration is not working. It was disconnected as the plug underneath came undone which has happened all the time. But when reconnected it usually works. This time it is not. So only the up and down works not the heat and vibration.  It seems as if no power is getting to it as it has no light on the power button. Help!!! Thanks.

that would be the hand wand controller.  if your chair does not have the surge suppressor attachment in the power controller wiring see about getting one and the new wand. if wand thru lazy boy it cost over $100 there is a company that sells the same one online for about $80

The repair man told me the same thing.  Problem being the plastic gear cannot be bought separately and a whole new motor needs to be purchased to the tune of about $335 just for the part.  The chair was bought in 2002 and is in excellent condition otherwise.  Dealer seems to be having trouble locating a replacement motor.  It seems downright stupid to have to trash a chair that is in excellent condition just because of this problem!  Ridiculous La-Z-Boy.

I first ran into this plastic-gear spline-stripping problem around 1997. The plastic internal gearing can be purchased separately for the Hubbell MC-42 motor, which was used through the 90's, and into the early 2000's; many mfr'rs changed-over to the Dewert, then Okin motors later.
The (2) gears should cost under $50 w/shipping.

The trouble with all recliners is that they are made with mechanical linkages. Hydraulic cylinders could be used to articulate, lift, rotate, and tilt. A hydraulic pump, reservoir, and cylinders would eliminate the mechanical linkages. A non flamable hydraulic fluid would be used. Leaking components would be contained in a housing and collection reservoir. The chair frame would be made of aluminum alloy to lessen weight. The miniture cylinders would be aluminum with steel rods for strength. Infinite position could be programmed for memory or adjusted on the spot. Height control and retractable wheels would make the chair more handy. Airbags in the foot rest, seat, lumbar and back support would give more authority to the user for setting pressure points on the body. A pop up console on the armrest would have the necessary controls for adjusting the parameters. A pop up pistol safe with finger print id technology would be installed in the armrest. Motion detectors on the side and front would activate the vibration massage motors when someone approaches the chair waking the occupant. A coffee warmer and drink chiller also incorporated in the armrests. Telemometry would monitor the occupants vitals via scanning sensors located in the seat and back rest. If the normal parameters of a human exceed certain limits a cell phone burried in the chair would dial a preprogrammed list of people. If the life support parameters exceed the emergency limits an automatic 911 would be dialed and a recorded message identifying the occupant would be announced with location and id. If the occupant assumes room temperature the chair would unwind a cadaver cover with a red warning that occupant is deceased with the time and date flashing on a pop up monitor near the big toe. If rigamortise has set in the chair would go to a level bed like position and the arms would drop for easy roll out onto a gurney. Since no one wants a chair that someone died in the chair would pop the cushions off leaving the aluminum frame to be refitted with new cushions. The chair would then fold itself into a suitcase size weighing 70 lbs with a carrying handle for easy transportation. The cushions could be placed in the garbage. Although not cheap this chair would be free to medicaid patients. It would even come with a snub nose smith and wesson 357 magnum and ammo. The gun would have a lazer sight and blanks to practice dry fire while relaxing in the techno chair. Also a tazer would be stowed in the safe. If the chair senses that the occupant is trying to commit suicide a special menu pops up in large print explaning how to do it using the snub nose revolver. The occupant is positioned and an arm with pistol clamp unfolds from the armrest. A camera with artificial intelligence positions the occupants head for the precise kill location. The occupant is asked if the gun is loaded, if life is no longer worth living and a Will leaving all funds to Obamacare is presented and verbally accepted from the occupant. Then the occupant is told to relax and go to sleep. Once the telemetry senses the occupant is sleeping the trigger is pulled via command from an Obamacare trustee. Then the brain matter and blood is contained by the cadaver cover and throwaway cushions. The exiting bullet is collected by a pop up backstop made of gelitin for examination by the courts. Anybody want to try my chair out?

I was on the hook until the pistol-safe popped-up; good ideas otherwise, but China would undercut you, 'borrow' the technology (from agents located in Korea), and maker it cheaper ($2 American).
I've always thought hydraulics and bearings are under-used in mechanical furniture, but then, the large manufacturers aren't interested in one chair per consumer every 20 years; this would hurt their bottom-line. Planned obsolescence is a marketing concept which has been around a very long time, even before Obama was born; he inherited the shabby workpersonship based on increased corporate profits (fueled by greed) which is a problem for capitalists and communists alike.  If your mother was born in Russia, she'd still be a sweet old lady.

The problem is La-Z-Boy does not care about customers after the sale.. They are not cheap. But very poor service to customers that just spent over $1000.00 plus on a chair! Same on them!
