Yes, EXACT same thing happened to me and I, too, called back a few minutes later to verify that I was getting the refund they tell me I'm getting.  They said this happens a lot and it IS identity theft.  They said that these people can be hijacking your debit card info using cameras in pens and lots of seemingly innocent devices while you're checking out at a store, etc.  Or somehow they hack your number from online purchases.  The girl I spoke to asked me all that verifying info as well and I was uncomfortable providing it but she said the same thing about things not matching.  She actually said they are getting more calls for issues like this than regular calls for people wanting their services.   I also cancelled my card with my bank (debit) and may pursue a dispute if I don't see the refund show up in my account within the next week or so.

This one was probably my fault for not looking into my account as much, but I just found out that this credit report company has been charging me $19.95 and $14.95 charges every month for over a year now for a total of $219.10. I am going to press charges once the whole things gets claimed and we figure out how this ever even happened. I'm pretty pissed.

The old number for MNI 800-935-9935 goes to a voice recording that says "There is new information for this number" and it sends you a text message.  If you reply Y to the text, it enrolls you in a $9.95 per month "Locator Service".

The new number is 866-883-3309, when you get to an customer service rep, be sure to ask "Are you affiliated with MNI Credit Report?" and they will know exactly why you are calling.

Legally, they are allowed to debit your account under the following terms and conditions. However, it is quite unethical to make it so difficult to cancel your membership.

"Credit Monitoring Membership With Free Trial: You will be asked for valid credit card information when you sign up for the free credit monitoring trial. CIC will verify your credit card information before processing your order. An authorization in the amount of one dollar will be performed on your credit card, to make sure it is valid and in good standing, but CIC will not actually bill your card until the free trial period has passed. However, the one dollar authorization may count against your credit or debit limit. If you do not cancel your free trial membership within 9 days of the date you place your order, your membership will continue automatically and the monthly/annual fee will be billed to the credit card or other billing source provided by you when you enrolled in credit monitoring, on the first day of each successive membership term
